The LumberKings trail the all-time series , dating back to 1960, against Quad Cities and trail, 65-66, since the LumberKings became a Seattle Mariners affiliate in Last year, Clinton won the season series 9-5 against the River Bandits losing the series at Modern Woodmen Park, 3-4. LumberKings Starter: Danny Garcia, 23, makes his fourth start of the season for Clinton. In his last start, Garcia was hung with the loss his last time out. The lefty served up two long balls in his four innings of work, the first Clinton pitcher to allow two home runs in the same game this year, he allowed four runs, three earned, while walking one and striking out three. The Miami native gave up his first earned runs in that game. In his first start, despite pitching 5.1 innings and not allowing an earned run he was given the loss against the Kane County Cougars. He pitched collegiately for Miami University and made two appearances in the College World Series. Last year, in Omaha Garcia started against UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. River Bandits Starter: Jorge Alcala, 21, makes his third appearance and start of the season for the River Bandits. The Dominican native earned the win his last time out against Burlington. He threw a season-high five innings allowing just one hit, no runs, walking five, and striking out two. He pitched at three different levels in the Astros farm system in The righty pitched at Tri- City, New York-Penn League short-season, Gulf Coast League Astros, and the Greenville Astros of the Appalachian League. He signed as an international free agent in 2015 and made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Astros in Last Time Out: In a Saturday matinee at Modern Woodmen Park the Clinton LumberKings set a new season-high for hits, 13, in a 6-1 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits. The win is just the second of the year for the LumberKings (7-9) away from Ashford University field. In the first game in nearly a week of baseball the River Bandits (9-7) failed to go deep for a home run. The offense for Quad Cities was limited to a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Clinton starter Ljay Newsome gave up two hits in the first inning, the last, a two-out RBI single to Spencer Johnson that scored Rodrigo Ayarza for Quad Cities first and only run of the game. Newsome (3-1) allowed very little following the first inning. The righty turned in his second straight quality start to register his third consecutive win. In the top of the fourth inning, the LumberKings gave Newsome a lead he would not relinquish. Dimas Ojeda singled to right center with men on second and third base to score two and give the LumberKings a 2-1 lead. Ojeda went 3-for-4 on the day, joining Luis Rengifo, Conner Hale, and Gareth Morgan as LumberKings with multiple hits. Season High: The LumberKings registered a new season-high for first in their 6-1 win, 13. The 13 hits, marked the fifth time that the LumberKings have had at least 10 hits in a game this season. 11 of the hits went for singles to go with a double and a triple that came back-to-back in the seventh inning. Twin Killings: Double-plays by the Quad Cities River Bandits were hard to come by for the River Bandits coming into the series. As a team, they had just four over their first 13 games. During Saturday s matinee the River Bandits turned three double plays, the most double-plays turned against the LumberKings this season. Roster Moves: The LumberKings have made few moves this year, but last night a four player transaction came down from the Seattle Mariners. Infielder, Conner Hale was released, and Infielder Johmbeyker Morales was placed on the disabled list. In return, the LumberKings received two top prospects, 2 nd round pick, Joe Rizzo, whose first professional hit was an inside -the-park home run, and infielder, Nick Zammarelli who was an All-Star in the Northwest League was an 8 th round pick by the Mariners in Leadoff Success: The Clinton LumberKings have had struggles with getting the leadoff man on this season. In their win Saturday afternoon, they got the leadoff man in four out of nine innings.at one point getting the leadoff man on in three straight inning. This date in baseball history: On this date in 1919, Senator right-hander Walter Johnson records his fifth Opening Day shutout, beating the A s at Griffith Stadium, 1-0. The Philadelphia starter Scott Perry matches zeros with the Big Train for a dozen frames, until pinch runner Mike Menosky scores the decisive run for Washington with one out in the bottom of the 13th inning. Broadcast Information: All games will be broadcast live on FM WCCI and online at LumberKings.com via the TuneIn Radio App with the Erik Oas, in his first season as the Voice of the LumberKings.
