TROJANS PICKED NINTH IN PAC-10 USC was picked to finish ninth in the Pac-10 Conference, according to the preseason coaches poll. The Trojans were slotted behind UCLA, Stanford, Arizona State, Oregon, Arizona, California, Washington State and Oregon State and ahead of Washington. TROJANS IN THE MAJORS In the history of the USC baseball program, a total of 97 players have made it to the major leagues. PAC (12) TO THE FUTURE When the Pac-10 Conference expands to the Pac-12 Conference next year, the conference will expand to 11 teams with the addition of Utah (Colorado does not sponsor baseball). On April 8, after originally dropping the program following the end of the 2011 season, California announced it would reinstate baseball after supporters raised the necessary funds. GETTING TO THE (BB)COR OF THE MATTER The buzzword in college baseball for the 2011 season are the new BBCOR (Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution) bats being used for play. NCAA-mandated levels for all aluminum bats have ensured that players using BBCOR-rated bats will be similar to that of hitting a wood bat. I think the majority of coaches believe it s going to be a lower-scoring game and a quicker game, said USC head coach Frank Cruz. They feel the pitchers will dominate because of the fact that the baseball is not coming off the barrel as it used to in the past. I think you will see a more fundamental team game. 2 University of Southern California Baseball usctrojans.com2
