First baseman Alex Williams, who was named the Verizon WAC Hitter of the Week on Monday, leads the Bulldogs and the conference with six home runs, 21 RBI, 25 hits while batting.431. Southpaw Chris Sadberry gets the start on Tuesday as he continues his return from surgery in Sadberry is a perfect 2-0 on the season, defeating UAPB, 13-8 and 11-6, respectively. 2 2012 Media Information Media Credentials Passes for Louisiana Tech baseball games are limited to the working media only. Only authorized personnel will be admitted to the press box. Space is limited, so please contact Kelvin Queliz in the Louisiana Tech Media Relations Office for credentials. Requests should be made well in advance due to the limited space. Passes not picked up at the Media Relations Office or received by mail will be left at the front of the stadium for pickup. Please contact Queliz at least one week in advance concerning credentials for road games. Media may park in the lot on Alabama Avenue adjacent to the stadium; however, space is limited and parking will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis as players, coaches, game day staff and seasonticket holders also park in this lot. Additional parking is available in the lot across Tech Drive adjacent to the Lady Techster Softball Complex. Radio Visiting radio crews are welcome at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. One courtesy broadcast line will be provided in the press box for official stations. Space is limited, so we ask that broadcasting crews be limited to two air persons and one technician. Please direct all questions to Queliz at Phone/Internet Louisiana Tech will provide three phone lines in the J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park Press Box, one for each team s radio and one for phone calls. A fax machine will be available in the Media Relations Office approximately 20 minutes after the game s conclusion. Wireless internet access is also available in the press box. Post-Game Procedures A full NCAA box score will be provided at the end of each game. Queliz will serve as the official scorer for all home games. Head Coach Wade Simoneaux will be available for all media on the field approximately 10 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Player interviews will also be done on the field after the cooling-off period. Contact Queliz by the beginning of the final inning to make arrangements for these interviews. Interview Policy All player and coach interview requests must be directed through the Athletic Media Relations Office. Reporters should submit interview requests at least 24 hours in advance by either calling Queliz at , or by ing him at kqueliz@latech.edu. It is NEVER permissible for media members to call studentathletes directly on their home phones or cell phones. Practices are open to the public, but reporters wishing to interview players before or after practice should contact Queliz at least 24 hours in advance. Field Access Policy Members of the media are not allowed to shoot footage, photos, etc. from inside or directly next to the LA Tech dugout on the field. Instead, members are more than welcome to shoot from the camera area near the opposing team s dugout, the area behind the fence between the Bulldogs dugout and their bullpen (not the bullpen itself) and from the stands. When the baseball team is on the road, the policy regarding the media s access near the Bulldogs dugout will remain in effect. Louisiana Tech used 13 different lineups through 13 games. The Bulldogs lead the Western Athletic Conference in batting average and hits (.319, 151, respectively) and are tied for the league lead with New Mexico St. in home runs (12). Alex Williams has started in 80 consecutive games for the Bulldogs. Williams leads the WAC in home runs with six, hits with 25, RBI (21), batting average (.431) and total bases (45). Shortstop Ryan Gebhardt is second in the WAC in batting average (.413), hits (23), runs (13) and doubles (5) Freshman Phil Maton ranks fourth in the conference with 19 strikeouts. Closer Caleb Dudley is one save away from tying Buddy Aulds for most saves by a Bulldog pitcher in school history (18). SCOUTING THE GENTS Centenary will start left hander Nic Parrott on Tuesday as Parrott will be making his first start of the 2012 season. The dual-player has started three games in the outfield for the Gents, hitting.444 with two RBI. Tyler Clakely and Kyle Morton remain atop the team s batting charts with.500 and.490 averages, respectively. Clakely has pounded 25 hits in 50 at bats, driving in 15 RBIs, second only to Morton s 19. SCOUTING THE CARDINALS Lamar returns 17 letterwinners from a 2011 team that finished and made a run in the Southland Tournament. Lamar enters Ruston with a 4-6 record. Jebb Abt leads the team with a.378 batting average, including nine runs, six doubles and 14 hits and is tied with Garret Autrey with seven RBI. Autrey leads the Cardinals in home runs with two. MILESTONE TERRITORY Louisiana Tech has an all-time record of 1,598-1, In the 66 years of existence for the baseball program, the Bulldogs have compiled a.552 winning percentage. In the 42 years since J.C. Love Field at Patterson Park has opened, Tech has won 729 home games for a.653 winning percentage, making J.C. Love Field one of the most difficult places to play for opponents. BEST FINISH The 2011 Bulldogs won more WAC Tournament games than any other team in school history and advanced to the tournament s elimination bracket final game (2-2). With the two wins, Tech doubled its tournament win total, winning as many tournament games as the last nine years combined. NEW BLOOD After losing juniors Mike Jefferson, Mark Threlkeld and Kyle Roliard to the 2011 MLB Draft and seniors Joey Ford, Will Alvis and Clint Ewing, the Bulldogs will see a new backstop and outfield. Senior Justin Gordey and sophomores Taylor Burch and Tyler Qualls are expected to fill those roles along with the newcomers on the team. Tech returns 14 letterwinners and six redshirts. MLB DRAFT There are four players on this year s team that have already been drafted; Juniors Trevor Petersen (23rd round by Tampa in 2009), Taylor Terrasas (33rd round by St. Louis in 2009) and Kyle Arnsberg (45th round by Boston in 2009 and by St. Louis in the 40th round in 2011) while freshman Bre shon Kimbell was drafted by Milwaukee in the 28th round in

5 MIDDLE INFIELD AMONG BEST IN CONFERENCE Louisiana Tech shortstop Ryan Gebhardt and second baseman Austin Hedges were named to the Madness Preseason second team all-wac by CollegeSportsMadness.com. LOUISVILLE SLUGGER FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICAN Sophomore shortstop Ryan Gebhardt became the first Bulldog player to be named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team since Jerricho Jones in Gebhardt was fourth in the WAC in batting average during conference play (.415). SAVED BY THE CLOSER In 2010, Louisiana Tech relief pitchers only managed to save a total of four games. In the 2011 season, Tech set the single-season record with 18 saves with Caleb Dudley recording 12 and Will Alvis, Dan Breazeale, Trevor Petersen and Mike LeBreton recording six combined saves. DUDLEY CHASING HISTORY With his 3.2 inning save vs. MTSU, right-hander Caleb Dudley is just one save away from tying Buddy Aulds for most saves in Tech history (18). POWER S BACK In 2011, the first year with the new BBCOR bats, the Bulldogs totaled 28 home runs, 19 of which came from sluggers Mark Threlkeld and Will Alvis. Alex Williams began the 2012 season by hitting a two-run home run in game two vs. UTA and a three-run shot in the series finale vs. the Mavericks to give him two on the season. The Bulldogs already have 12 home runs on the season. BIG AL Senior first baseman Alex Williams already reached his 2011 total of four home runs in only the seventh game of the 2012 season. Williams recorded a hit in every game in 12-of-13 games thus far this season and ranks amongst the top in the conference in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.431), hits (25), home runs (6) and RBI (21). FIRST IMPRESSION Redshirt sophomore Kyle Arnsberg came into the season opener as a defensive replacement for Tyler Qualls. In his first at-bat as a Bulldog, the catcher hit a grand slam to left-center field, cutting UTA s lead to five. Arnsberg ended his first game at Tech going 2-for-2 with five RBI. SECOND GENERATION Redshirt sophomore Kyle Arnsberg comes from a long line of baseball players as his father played nine seasons in the major leagues as a pitcher for the New York Yankees and Anaheim Angels. The elder Arnsberg has also been a pitching coach for four different MLB ballclubs, including the 2003 World Champion Florida Marlins. MARCH APRIL MAY Totals FRESHMAN POWER True freshman Bre shon Kimbell became the first freshman since Mark Threlkeld to hit cleanup for the Bulldogs (2009). Kimbell hit in the four spot in all three games vs. UTA and recorded four hits in 11 at-bats. The right fielder/dh also drove in two runs. EIGHTH INNING AND BEYOND Since the 2004 season, the Bulldogs have posted a (.962) mark when leading games after the eighth inning. DOUBLE TROUBLE During the two-game road trip to Arkansas, the Bulldogs posted 14 doubles vs. UAPB and UALR; the most Tech has compiled in any road trip in school history. 5

6 2012 SEASON HONORS Phil Maton: Verizon WAC Pitcher of the Week (2/27) Alex Williams: Verizon WAC Hitter of the Week (3/5) CROWDED OUTFIELD Going into the 2012 season, Louisiana Tech had to replace its entire starting outfield as Kyle Roliard was drafted and Will Alvis and Joey Ford graduated. Three games into this season, Tech has already started six different outfielders. Newcomers Bre shon Kimbell and Kody Neel and senior Justin Gordey started two games in the opening series while Stephen Gandy and letterwinners Corey White and Taylor Burch started the second game of the series vs. UTA. RUNNERS BEWARE In 2011, Louisiana Tech led the WAC in pickoffs as the Bulldogs compiled 17 pickoffs. Mike Jefferson, who was drafted in the 22nd round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2011 MLB Draft, picked off 11 runners to lead the WAC. ONE-TWO PUNCH RETURNS Two-thirds of the rotation returned in 2012 as juniors Trevor Peterssn and Jeb Stefan will anchor a rotation that lost Mike Jefferson to the 2011 MLB Draft. Stefan led the Bulldogs in wins in 2011 with seven while Petersen won six in 83.1 innings. Stefan and Petersen started 30 of the 61 games for Tech last season. INSIDE THE FRIENDLY CONFINES OF J.C. LOVE FIELD Throughout it s history, the Bulldogs have held a significant advantage at J.C. Love Field. Since it s opening, Tech has posted a home record, good for a a.653 win percentage. The 23 home wins in 2011 were the most under head coach Wade Simoneaux. The Bulldogs posted a 12 game winning streak at home dating from April 25, 2010 against Hawai i to March 6, 2011 against Middle Tennessee. The streak was the longest such streak since Tech won nine games from April 5 to May 14 during the 2009 season. THE STREAK Alex Williams played and started in all 61 games in Since his freshman season, he has seen action in 179 games, starting 175. Since 2009, LA Tech has played 182 games, giving him the most experience on the team. Dating back to 2010, Williams has started in 80 consecutive games. TECH S VERY OWN O VENTBREL The bullpen for Louisiana Tech is so deep that three left handers are a part of it. Among them, Sam Alvis and Ben Carlisle return as set-up men for closer Caleb Dudley. Sound familiar? The 2011 Atlanta Braves had left-handers Eric O Flaherty and Jonny Venters set up closer Craig Kimbrel. The Braves were 59-9 (.868) when leading after the sixth inning. LA Tech was 24-1 (.960) when leading after the sixth inning. Dudley had six multi-inning saves; the most in school history. The 2012 Bulldogs are 6-0 when leading after six, as two of Dudley s two saves has been a multi-inning saves. KELOWNA FALCONS The 2012 Kelowna Falcons summer team will have two Bulldog players on it s roster as catcher Tyler Qualls and pitcher Nate Chambers join the baseball club located in Canada. REACHING BASE Shortstop Ryan Gebhardt saw his consecutive reached base safely streak end at 41 games in the series finale vs. MTSU (3/4). 7 PHILLING IT Freshman Phil Maton set career-marks in a 9-3 upset victory over 2011 NCAA World Series participant Vanderbilt as Maton threw seven innings, striking out eight Commodore hitters in his first collegiate start. STRIKE FIRST The Bulldogs have scored the most runs in the first and third innings (19 apiece) as Louisiana Tech is 6-1 when scoring in the first inning this season. FAMILIAR FOES JOINING CONFERENCE At the conclusion of the 2012 season, Fresno State, Hawai i and New Mexico State will all depart the WAC. However, Dallas Baptist (baseball only), UT-Arlington, Cal-State Bakersfield (baseball only), Seattle, Texas State and UTSA will join the conference beginning in the academic year. Among these, Louisiana Tech baseball has never faced Cal-State Bakersfield and Seattle. Tech host three-game series against Texas Arlington (2/17-19) and Dallas Baptist (3/22-24). LA TECH PICKED TO FINISH LAST BY BASEBALL AMERICA One of the most reliable sources in all of college baseball, Baseball America, tabbed Tech to finish last in the conference in Among the seven teams, the Bulldogs were the only team to not have any draft-eligible prospects in the top 10. BULLDOGS TABBED SIXTH IN COACHES POLL The Louisiana Tech baseball team was picked to finish sixth in the Western Athletic Conference in a vote by the league s seven head coaches as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning. Fresno State was tabbed as the preseason favorite. Fresno State received 33 points and four first place votes after a season last year. The Bulldogs have won the WAC regular season title five out of the past six seasons. San Jose State ranked second with 31 points and three first place votes.
