Applicant/Organization Information Public Other X Non Profit Private Name Liquid Velo CITY OF POULSBO 2018 LODGING TAX GRANT APPLICATION Address th Ave E apt 111 City Seattle State WA Zip info@ Organization Purpose or Mission: Liquid Velo is solely dedicated to amateur athletics, specifically bicycle racing. We are incorporated as Liquid Velo and are licensed with USA Cycling under our trade name, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Cycling Team Team ID # Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is our major sponsor. The team is composed of 75 women and men that like to race our bicycles. While our primary focus is road cycling, many of our members are very active in track, cyclo-cross, and mountain bike racing. To learn more about the team philosophy please head over to our website to get more history of our team. Contact Person Name Bradlee Haley Title Race Director / Promoter Phone Bhaley0343@gmail.com Geographic area served by this project - Kitsap County, King County, Pierce County with Oregon and Vancouver B.C being visible Date of project (Start to finish): Criterium #1- Sat 6/2/18 downtown Poulsbo > Criterium #2 a Saturday end of July TBD 2018 Project Funding Request from the City of Poulsbo: $4,000 Organization Match: $TBD Number of people served by this project: Social media reach is over 15k leading up to event Total Project Cost: $12,000 1
Title and Brief Description of Project: 2017 Poulsbo Twilight Criterium was a huge success! We were given the opportunity to host the State Criterium Championship for WA, OR & Northern ID. We were also the first race in a new race series called Cascade Criterium Series. This was won by a local PRO Steve Fisher who races for Canyon Pro Cycling Team. The race course flows counter-clockwise through the heart of downtown Poulsbo, allowing spectators to feel the breeze as the biker s race past. More details about the event can be found on our website, and Our Facebook page 2
FUNDING SOURCES FOR THIS PROJECT List all firm commitments to date to fund this project: Source USA Cycling Registered participants (racers) Amount $8200 (based on 2017 entries) Sponsors TBD ($5k based on 2017) List any other sources of funding you have applied for: Source Amount Status 3
Specifically how will this grant be used? What kinds of advertising will be used? How will you distribute the information? How do you document your successes and results? The grant was used this year to help in advertising of the event. We purchased signs from Bill Austin to be placed at either end of Poulsbo along the freeway the week prior to the event. Our website design, social media, marketing materials, posters, flyers and banners were designed and managed by Ashley Worobec Graphic Design. We tried to get Sound Publishing to help with the local advertising but that didn t work out as we had planned. We will look in 2018 to have Ashley Worobec handle all Marketing and Advertising needs. Our plan for 2018 will be to do more advertising in the outside areas of Poulsbo (Kingston, Silverdale, Bremerton and Poulsbo) as well as out of state such as Oregon and Vancouver, B.C. The reason we want to look at those locations is we get a lot of racers at other events throughout the year from those locations so would be great to get them at our event as well. Our plan for 2018 will be to increase our Social presence as I feel we have a good thing going with that and to look at other alternate ways of reaching the outside of our community. We had a 40% increase in racer attendance in 2017 over The reason I feel this increase happened is 1. State Championship Event 2. Word of mouth about the course/route from Location, downtown setting 4. Every racer had great things to say about the locals and business owners (Details attached) 4
Identify the specific tourism audience/market located more than 50 miles from Poulsbo that your organization will target with these funds. -As mentioned above we will target Vancouver B.C as well as Oregon to get those racers to attend our event. 98% of our racers are 25 miles + from Poulsbo so the majority of our audience is all outside of the event area. Forms of advertising will mainly be social media but will look to branch out from that in 2018 to a more digital effort as well. Sample of 2017 digital effort: 5
How will this project be financed in the future? -This will be our 3 rd year (hopefully) downtown and with that we are looking at adding a 2 nd event. The goal is that by year 5 we will have created such an event that it is a destination for racers from all over the West coast. With the prestige of the event we can hopefully get more financing from Sponsors and gain a title sponsor. 6
State law RCW (2) requires organizations to provide estimates of potential economic impact. In addition, the City requires you to provide a brief description of how you calculated the estimates. The estimates are specifically for the event, activity or facility for which you are requesting funding. All recipients must submit a report to the municipality describing the actual number of people traveling for business or pleasure on a trip: Projected Actual Methodology (Indirect count? Direct count? Did the hotels supply counts?) Overall Attendance race participants Attendees who traveled 50 miles or more to attend: Total: Race participation does not include family or friends. We assume 1 or 2 additional people with each racer actual attendance, not including locals As you see below this attendance is of people outside of Poulsbo. Of total, attendees who traveled from another state or country: Austin, TX USAF Academy, CO Corona, CA x2 West Point, NY Beaverton, OR Portland, OR x3 Whitefish, WI Traveled more than 50 miles to the event Participants were within 50 miles of the event Attendees who stayed overnight: Paid 1. Is there any other information you wish to add: I have attached a summary of a survey we sent out to the race participants post-race and I have compiled and attached. 7
Application Certification I attest and affirm I am an authorized agent of the organization/agency applying for funding and the information I have provided in this application is true, complete and accurate. I understand and agree to the following: The Lodging Tax Funds, for which the organization/agency is applying, can only be used in accordance with the purposes outlined in RCW If awarded, the applicant organization/agency will enter into a Tourism Promotion Services Agreement with the City. If awarded, the City of Poulsbo will only reimburse those costs actually incurred by the organization/agency and only after the service is rendered, or paid for if provided by a third party, and a signed City of Poulsbo payment form (or other form acceptable to the City) has been submitted to the City, including copies of invoices and payment documentation. The agency will be required to submit a mid-year and end-of-the-year report documenting economic impact results in a format determined by the City. Signatures Bradlee Haley Date 7/27/2017 8

A personal note from Professional Cyclist Steve Fisher Winning UCI Stage GP Saguenay Wining Poulsbo Twilight Criterium Brad, Thanks again for having me at the race this year. I think your event has a ton of potential to keep growing into one of our largest regional events. I hadn't seen that photo either, so thanks for sending it! The Poulsbo Twilight Criterium is a fantastic up and coming event within the NW cycling community. The opportunity to race on a circuit in a vibrant town like Poulsbo that provides such an exciting atmosphere is incredible. I wouldn't have otherwise visited Poulsbo if it weren't for this event and now I'm very glad that I have seen what the community of Poulsbo has to offer. This is an event with a lot of potential to grow over the next several years and it will continue to attract even larger crowds. Many racers, including myself bring friends and family members along to events like these. They really appreciate being able to enjoy dinner and drinks right at the race venue in Poulsbo.
