As a PennDOT Planning Partner, Erie ounty has worked with and supported the many efforts undertaken by PennDOT and neighboring DOT s allowing for municipalities to cultiate opportunities that exist along the corridor. The route spans the MPO's East and West boundary to the North allowing for iews of the Lake Erie. In fact this route is currently a part of a National Scenic Byway, Great Lakes Seaway Trail. There are seeral planning processes ongoing that are looking to make connections from potential Bicycle Route 30 to cultural gems within our communities such as Pennsylania s most isited park, Presque Isle, Lake Erie Wine ountry, as well as Erie Bluffs State Park. Priate inestors hae taken notice and concentrated deelopment is already occurring along Erie s lake shore in excess of $200M which will only enhance the national appeal to our region. For these reasons, Erie ounty is fully supportie of PennDOT's efforts in designating PA Route 5 as a U.S. Bicycle Route. Such a designation would only enhance the many efforts of highlighting Route 5 as a bicycle friendly attraction in the future. We will continue to work with Penn DOT and the priate sector to shape the ision of the corridor as a premiere bicycle friendly destination.
