Maidenforum October 2014 Volume 1, Issue 4 Skiyente Ski Club America s Oldest Act ive All -Women s Ski Club In This Issue Fundraisers Photos from Season Opener Meeting Birthdays of October October Calendar of Events Instant Access to Board Members NWSCC Ski Fair Flyer Skiyente EVENTS PACRAT News and Schedules Fire Safety Month Classifieds Warren Miller Movie It is with heavy heart that Skiyente sends out a huge collective hug to Stacy Saporito. She lost her father last month after both parents were involved in a tragic car accident. Her mother is in recovery. Huge Savings at Hillcrest Sports Race Night-October 1 If you even might be thinking about new equipment this year you won t want to miss this one night opportunity to score on all kinds of winter gear. Reps from major brands will be on hand to make sure you get the right fit and the best deals for all attendees. Featured brands are : Rossignol, Fischer, Atomic, Marker, Leki, Blizzard, Tecnica, Nordica, POC, Smith and Volkl. Skis on the left are K2 s Miss Demeanors. Does that sound like a Skiyente brand or what? Be sure to stop by and say hello to Dex and make sure he knows Skiyente is in the house. We resume meetings at Buffalo Gap Eatery, on SW Macadam. The business meeting starts promptly at 6:30. Come early and socialize. Be sure to check the roster for your correct information as the new roster is to be sent out in the November Maidenforum. Any changes should be noted to Barb Pressentin. Mo Musser will be collecting your dues. The signed waiver and information sheet must accompany the check. Members signed up for events to chair and there are still plenty left. Amanda Moran will be accepting sign ups for event chairs and co-chairs. Any items that you wish to be in the next Maidenforum can be handed or ed to Louise DuFresne. Check out the minutes from the September meeting. They are to be ed to the entire club and a copy present at the meeting. They will be ratified October 7. Guest speaker at this meeting will be Ben Jacklet speaking about Shred Hood. Adopt-A-Highway Clean-Up September 6 A two mile stretch of Oregon s beautiful highway 35 is now pristine and ready to take on all winter sliders (on slopes, not highway) this season thanks to Skiyente. The mighty 4 took on the highway chore September 6 in near perfect weather. Mo Musser, Sandi Shaub, Sally Niedermeyer and Louise DuFresne made quick work despite crew size. Our club did such a super job last spring that we only had a small number of debris bags and we returned home to enjoy the rest of the summer day. Next Meeting Buffalo Gap October 7 1

Volume 1 Issue 4 Page 2 NWSCC Ski Fair Date Set for November 17 I know, I know, it is later than usual this year. That means we have a little more time to make this the best booth ever for Skiyente. The theme is Ticket to Slide. Winner receives their NWSCC dues paid and of course, bragging rights. Again this event will be held at the Holiday Inn Airport location. See Amanda Moran or Meg Spillman to be a part of this fun event. Season Opener at Oswego Pointe Prez Sandi brought yummy pizza and proclaimed We ll never eat it all. (we did!) Starla, Diane, Marcia Rudich (guest) and Mo. Linda Matusow and Wendy Morseth LeAnne Fanning and Jill Parshall somehow found a table! Allison and Eileen start off with salad. Yes Laurel, members may bring their beverage of choice. Woo Hoo!!! Tina Lyons and Barb Abalan enjoyed the happy hour social. 2

Volume 1, Issue 4 Page 3 Fall Fundraisers Chinook Books at October Meeting It s that time of year again to help out with our fundraisers. Proceeds generally go to either our charities or operating expenses, so either way, they help do great things! Is it better to give than to receive? Well, with Chinook Books, you can do both! It literally only takes a couple coupons to make back your $15 or $20. With free car washes, half price plays, you are there already. Plus it s a wonderful way to check out new restaurants and shops. The mobile app has a feature that will show you what is nearby so you won t miss that free appetizer at Happy Hour! Skiyente earns half of whatever is sold. The books sell for $20 and the mobile apps sell for $15 which means we make $10 and $7.50, respectively, for each item sold. Please consider asking friends, family and coworkers if they would be interested in buying one. They also make great gifts for the holidays, so maybe they will want to buy more! Interested in supporting environmentally conscious businesses? Chinook Book contains only goods and services that meet their high standards for green and sustainable business practices and products. The coupons are effective NOW and good thru October Peg will have them available at the October meeting, and you can take however many you think you will be able to sell and bring the money and any unsold items back to the next meeting. So go Green as you go Sell. Entertainment Books at October Meeting Look for the stacks of Entertainment Books on a table near you at the October meeting. Tons of deals from fast food on the go, sports stores like Dicks and many discounts from several of the major theaters, great dining and fantastic pizza (Like the ones we had at our last meeting)! Never pay full price. Got a difficult person to buy for in our area? This is the perfect gift and they can decide what to do. Carry them in your car so to be always there when you need it. You can take as many as you want and not pay until you sell them But time is limited. We need to turn all books and money back to the club by the December meeting. See Sandi to buy or for more information. Two New ways to boost Entertainment Book Sales 1.) Use & Facebook to Multiply your sales Online! Try it: Go to website: entertainment.com/share Enter group ID: Your personal link is displayed on the screen Include your link for online ordering in s and post on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram When anyone clicks your link and buys Entertainment, Skiyente earns profit! The books are shipped directly to the buyer so you don t have to deliver anything! 3

Volume 1, Issue 4 Page 4 Boosting Entertainment Book Sales cont. 2) You can accept Credit card payments! No special equipment is needed. Don t let But I don t have any cash be an excuse for not supporting our fundraiser. Go to website entertainment.com/paynow Enter group ID: Write down confirmation code and give the buyer the Entertainment book from Skiyente. Use this payment option for in person sales. It cannot be used in or social media. Poinsettia Sale Orders Taken at October Meeting It s difficult to be thinking about the holidays in 90* plus weather. In less than a week, you will be able to order your beautiful poinsettias just in time for the holiday season. See Colleen Walter who will have order forms at the October 7 meeting as well as online in the near future. They will be delivered to us at the beginning of December, perfectly timed for your needs. Skiyente Continues the Spirit of Giving The name Skiyente has become synonymous with giving. Not only because we are women who are naturally nurturers, but because we want to give back to the community that has given us so much in the way of natural beauty, the great outdoor spirit and one another. The richness of the Skiyente friendships and the networking of Skiyente events has been a cohesive factor bringing us more in line with the entire mountain community. This year Skiyente will be giving a donation to the Mt. Hood Museum and Cultural Center as well as the Erin Nicole Scholarship Fund. In January or February the board will be asking you for your ideas of a third recipient. Please keep this in mind as you sit on the chairlift or are driving home after a beautiful day on the slopes. October is Fire Safety Month Things to think about this month... 1) Smoke alarms 2)Prevent electrical fires 3)Unplug unused appliances 4)Alternative heater safety 5) Fire safety sprinklers 6)Know your escape route 7)Position Appliances carefully 8)Clean dryer vents 9)Holiday safety. i.e. extra electrical loads and candles 10)Conduct regular inspections. Check online for expanded ideas to stay safe at home and at the mountain. 4

PACRAT News You Can Use Fast Girlz from the Hood are getting racer ready and signing up for PACRAT now. Teams are being formed and you don t want to be left out. After all, Skiyente has a reputation to uphold! The absolute deadline for PACRAT dues is Thanksgiving. Early signups assure a full team position. Fees did go up this year but only by $4. Race director Sally Niedermeyer will be collecting names and dues at the next meeting. Remember, you must be a paid member of Skiyente to enter. See page 9 for list of race dates. 65th Annual Warren Miller Movie Schedule To emphasize the point that fall is truly here, the Warren Miller Movie is coming to town this month. This is the sure fire way to get amped up for ski season. With jaw dropping vistas and extreme sliders seeking that adrenaline rush all over the world to quirky ideals of the ski and boarder enthusiasts, this movie continues to captivate all of us who share the love of skiing and boarding.
