Congratulations Toni. Lee Perry-Guest Speaker at November Meeting Lee s talk was informative and entertaining on a serious subject. To the right is very early equipment, hand built for amputee skiers. Heavy metal structure made mobility difficult but not impossible for those who really wanted to ski. Lee Perry is our 1969 King Winter Lee focused his talk on information not published which made for a fascinating glimpse of adaptive sports history made right here on Mt. Hood. 2

Volume 1, Issue 6 Page 3 2014 NWSCC Scholarship Goes to,,,,,,,,,,,,,. This year s recipient of Skiyente s Erin Nicole Scholarship is again Elyse Burandt.

As a member of the Schweitzer Ski Team, her objective for this season is to make the U18 Nationals. Last season Elyse placed #13 in downhill and #16 in Super G in her age group.

3 Volume 1, Issue 6 Page NWSCC Scholarship Goes to,,,,,,,,,,,,,. This year s recipient of Skiyente s Erin Nicole Scholarship is again Elyse Burandt. Elyse Burandt received a$1,500 scholarship through Skiyente Ski Club. Age 17, she attends Joel E. Ferris High School in Spokane, WA. where she is a member of the varsity soccer team. As a member of the Schweitzer Ski Team, her objective for this season is to make the U18 Nationals. Last season Elyse placed #13 in downhill and #16 in Super G in her age group. She had 2 podium finishes and placed in the top 10 seven times. Congratulations Elyse. Advertisement Attention racers and other finely tuned Skiyentes. 4 Volume 1, Issue 6 Page 4 Wine and Skis Event November 24 Guest Cynthia Schnee and Karen Castaneda Sue Rimkeit spoke on winter driving safety. Tina Weber sampled some scrumptious goodies! Barb Pressentin was Super Chair of this event. Meghan Zonich, Grand Poobah of NW Distillery assists Nancy Foreman choosing one of their amazing handcrafted spirits. Julie Rasmussen pours for the wine guessing game-sheridan, Lucas, Tina Lyons and Tina Weber. Kerry Godfrey Scroggins bought ski boots!!! Pres. Sandi and Sue Rimkeit (former member) 4

December The Busy Holiday Month Here are some great reminders to keep yourself and family healthy and safe this month. 1)Wash your hands often (you know why). 2)Stay warm. 3)Manage stress (take time for yourself and don t go overbudget). 4)Travel Safely (see last month s issue on winter driving tips). 5)Be smoke free (avoid second hand smoke, too). 6)Get check ups and vaccinations. 7)Watch for kids. Seasonal excitement can turn into accidents. 8)Prevent injuries (be sure to use step ladders while decorating etc). 9)Use safe food handling practices (lots of holiday gatherings-monitor food temperatures). 10)Eat healthy and be active. HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON 7
