Our friends and fellow riders are going down faster than the Bruins after a two goal lead. I d like to remind everyone that this is the time of year when all the High School darlings get to borrow Mom s Town & Country, pile 14 of their friends inside and then not speak a word to each other because they are all on their iphones, including the driver. Usually we only have to worry about the guy who is trying force down a Wendy s Baconator on the way home so his wife doesn t find out, or the woman trying to get on her make up while scooting to her second job as the in-store demonstrator at BJ s Wholesale Store. But now these other knuckleheads have joined them on the road for the rest of the summer. Just keep your head up, your ipod low and your hands loose. They are out there and you are going to meet them. I could expand on being alert and observant but remember what George Carlin said, Doesn't "expecting the unexpected" make the unexpected expected? The bottom line is that we are running out of room on our Memorial Flag and we need another accident caused by an inattentive driver the way a fish needs a bicycle. Take charge of your road. 2 SWINE TALK PAGE 2 Deputy HOG Well my fellow hoggers, we are now in the full swing of our riding season, at least when Mother Nature lets us ride!! Look at all we have coming up: rides every weekend, special guests coming to chapter meetings, dinner rides, the rally in August, and so much more going on. Have you also noticed some of the new faces at the last couple meetings? The word is getting out on how much fun we are!!! Our BVH family is growing, and with new people will come more and more fun!! I can't wait to see what we come up with and will be doing next! Ride Safe! Big Mark From the Desk of the Treasurer Change is on the way. I ve created some new cash handling procedures, as well as a BVH cash counting worksheet to be used at events and charity rides. In the past, Blackstone used the honor system to handle cash received from registration, 50/50 raffles, as well as other raffles at these events. This has worked for us in the past but going forward I think it s time for some change. The cash counting worksheet will allow registration and raffle cash to be counted and recorded separately, with two individuals responsible for counting cash and signing off, while also allowing more than one count. The new procedures also assigns another Officer to review the monthly bank statement, verifying it to the Treasurer s report, and initialing. I ve also discovered on the National HOG website a Letter of Agreement that we will be utilizing when handling charitable donations. I plan on discussing these new changes at our July meeting. Special Olympics Torch Run ~ May 31st Paul Gaouette Nine bikes with eleven people left Precision Harley Davidson on Friday, May 31st heading to Metro Collision Center in Smithfield RI, the staging area for the Special Olympics Torch Run. Upon arriving at Metro Collision the group paid their registration fee and enjoyed the entertainment and food provided. At 7pm we received the start your engine call, in a few short minutes Blackstone Members and hundreds of other motorcyclists were on the way to the URI campus. As always, highways and other roads leading to URI were shutdown leaving only motorcycles on them. At URI we were led through the back of the field with the athletes and families cheering on. The group parked their motorcycles and watched as the torch was lit, and to the side of the field there was a magnificent fireworks display. Leaving URI we headed to Dunkin Donuts for a comfort stop, then to the highway and home. If you haven t been on this ride I strongly recommend it. The look of happiness and gratitude on these young athletes faces for whom we rode down to start their competition, is priceless! Gardner Ale House ~ June 1 st Dave Whitty Seven bikes left Man-Mar en-route to the Gardner Ale House. Tee shirts and sunscreen were the order of the day, as it was very hot and very sunny. We rode along many back roads, which were well shaded and cool, making the ride pleasant and scenic. Especially enjoyable was the Wachusett area with many country roads that we had all to ourselves. We enjoyed a fun lunch at the Ale House and then continued our ride homeward along a different selection of country roads. Our afternoon D.D. stop came just in the nick of time as the remaining riders needed a little AC inside. It was the perfect end to a great day. More on next page...

4 SWINE TALK PAGE 4 Over the shoulder and a look back. Laconia Day Ride ~ June 15 th Dave Whitty Nine motorcycles left Man-Mar for a day ride around New Hampshire s Lake Region during bike week. The weather could not have been more perfect, and we went directly to the dealership in Meredith to allow time for all to browse and shop the vendors. Then we left the crowds behind for a scenic ride around Squam Lake, up around the Chinook Trail, and then back down to Wolfeboro on Winnipesaukee s east side. After stopping for lunch right on the water, we were off to continue our ride around beautiful Alton Bay and worked our way back to the Hooksett area for our final late afternoon break. With about a hundred mile highway run to go, we made it home in plenty of time to watch the Bruins win game two of the Stanley Cup. What a perfect day! Joey s Diner ~ June 28th Kevin Shea The forecast for the day was not looking good. Three people chose to ignore the weather and join me for the ride. We took some back roads heading north to Amherst, New Hampshire. It was cloudy but did not rain until we pulled in for a stop at Dunkin Donuts. As soon as we got on the bikes, the sun came out. WE had a great lunch at Joey s Diner, and then off to Nashua Harley Davidson, two stop lights away. From there more back roads heading for home. As always another great ride with Blackstone. H.O.G. Helping the Hub Blackstone Valley H.O.G., along with the South Shore and Boston H.O.G. Chapters are holding a raffle to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings through the One Fund. The Grand Prize is registration for two at the Iron Adventure Ride in Ludlow, VT, August 22 24, including 3 nights lodging at the Jackson Gore Lodge. The drawing will be held July 21 st at the Multi-Chapter H.O.G. Memorial Run. Tickets are $5 each and are available at the June and July Chapter meetings or by contacting Jim Gildea director@bvhog.com
