1 Hot Hooves www. seville.ponyclubvic.org.au Highlights: Seville Pony Club Newsletter August 2011 Trail ride this rally Showjumping Clinic Newsletter to cease please return your form (back page) RALLY CHECKLIST: Text or Tracey by Monday 22 August (see box this page) Bring a fluoro vest (if you have one) Bring a cake/slice to share Can you provide a volunteer to assist? Ride with a mobile phone if possible Remember Trail riding etiquette. Don t block the trail from other users. Inside this issue: President s Report 1 D.C. s Report 2 Results 4 Rally Plan 6 Rally Groups 7 President s Report Activities this Rally I hope our members are looking forward to this coming Rally, because its going to centre around a trail ride and be a lot of fun and a little bit different. As our cross country grounds are quite wet, we thought it a perfect opportunity to offer another type of PCAV approved pony club rally activity, which requires another skill in horsemanship not usually on offer to most of our riders. But for some of you, a trail ride won t be suitable and therefore you will be offered alternative riding activities at the club. (But you will need to text NO TRAIL to Tracey if this is you see box this page.) The rally will begin as usual with gear check at 9.45 (grading cards marked off etc) then our younger riders will take off on a supervised trail ride, with other groups remaining behind at the club for flat or freshmans show jumping. In Lesson 2, the reverse will happen. Blue ribbons will be awarded for those with all clear rounds in the Freshmans. The pony club will provide a lunch of roast beef in rolls with salad back at the club and ask that you please bring a slice or cake to share. After lunch there will be optional games, freshmans or flat work (number Important! PLEASE READ.. If you intend attending this rally you MUST respond to Tracey by Monday 22nd via text or with: Your name Number of family members for lunch The words NO TRAIL if you do not intend to trail ride Name of parent if yours intends to also ride a horse with you on the trail Your contact phone number. txt or traceyk13@bigpond.com dependent). See rally plan page 6 for full details. As always, safety is paramount, with the aim of the rally being social and fun. Red and Silver groups must as usual be led by a parent on the trail. If anyone has a fluoro vest, please bring it for your trail ride then lend to another rider in a different group. We also require any parents capable and willing to ride alongside a group, to please notify Tracey as above. And lastly we will be asking for a bit of assistance with road crossings see rally plan on page 6. I would like to thank the many people involved in organising the finer details of this rally, particularly Sandy Garland, Kay Sandfort and Tracey Kerford, because a lot of planning has gone into its preparation in order for you to stay safe and enjoy yourselves. Every rider who intends to attend this rally MUST respond to Tracey by Monday 22nd see box this page. Mounted Police Open Day This was a great success with approximately $600 raised, to be put towards further new showjumping equipment. My sincere thanks go to Joni Kay, Fiona Deacon, Alison Hee and Kirsty Wallace for making it happen. See Kirsty s report later this newsletter. Showjumping Clinic The fundraising team continue to impress and have booked Adam Wootten for a two day showjumping clinic at our Club on 28 & 29th September. Unsuitable for inexperienced Grade 5. (Very limited places.) See flyer enclosed. Coloured Jodhpur Day Thank you to everyone who participated last rally and gave a Continued over Look who s on Duty this month... If you want to receive monthly s about the next rally and a link to the website, please ensure you complete the form on the back page and hand in to the office at this rally. President Report continued... gold coin donation towards sponsorship of our riders who are to compete at the Nationals in September. I am pleased to advise that Naomi White was selected and will represent Seville. Our Jodhpur day raised $81, thank you to everyone. C Certificate Participants Congratulations to all our riders who passed their C Certificates and particular thanks to Bec Rosel and Tracey Kerford for their hard work and assistance D.C Report Well done to all our riders that sat their C certificate exams last week. You conducted yourselves as great ambassadors for our club. We are very proud of you all and it just goes to show why Seviile is so popular and successful. Congratulations to Megan Deans, Rachael Collins, Juliette Darby, Hannah Lloyd, Maddison Clark, Madison Buttolph, Emily Yates, India Ambler, Madison Mandl and Teagan Hee. (Teagan just has her jumping section to do at a later date). Time to start t h i n k i n g a b o u t y o u r K certificate now girls! A big thank you to all the parents that helped out both during the camp and at exams it is much appreciated and we could not have done it without you. Also to Holly Brenchley for teaching us to make ribbon browbands at the camp. (I think all our horses will look very smart wearing them), and to Renee Cellente for keeping the girls entertained. in the proceedings. Well done to all. Wanted SPC Cleaner Is there someone in the Club who would like to earn a little extra money cleaning the Club rooms monthly? We are after someone reliable who can wash the floors and clean the bathrooms before each rally. My thanks to Kerri McLeod who has been so perfectly doing this job for us, but who has now taken up full time work and is no longer available. Please call Thank you to everyone that attended the V.I.P pony club night at Horseland recently. It raised some great sponsorship money for us with Seville being the most supported club on the night. This means we will have some great trophy prizes for our dressage day in November. (It is pencilled in for the 6 th ) I have ordered great sunny weather and a dry riding surface for the day. (Hope your listening up there?) There is a lot happening at this month s rally so please check the rally plan to see where you need to be as the format is a little different to normal. Freshmans Showjumping will be set at Showjumping grade M A X I M U M S T A R T I N G HEIGHT with spreads. (F grade-.45, E grade-.55, D grade-.70, C grade-.85, B grade-1.00) Check your card for your grading. If you think your jumping will clash with your trail ride let me know when you /txt that you will be attending and I may be able to shuffle you around. me on or Kerri on if you are interested. Thank You To Brennan Contracting for so generously providing fresh and FREE mulch to the pony club for our grounds. We have used what we can, and still have plenty over, so anyone from the club may now help themselves. Just bring your spade and trailer. See you at the next rally, Ria Showjumping heights/spreads are a little different to other disciplines as there can be a big variation in what competitions may ask you to jump as opposed to what you might be showjumping at horse trials. I want to take the opportunity to show you what you can expect. Also if you require to be graded in the near future let me know so I can do it at this rally. I WILL NOT BE AT THE SEPTEMBER 25 TH RALLY. Please take the time to clean, oil and check over your gear. This time of year all the mud and water is very drying and abrasive on leather etc. so we need to pay extra attention in making sure it is safe for us to use and comfortable for our horse/pony. (We will be looking extra close for this at gear check.) See you all there. Stay safe, have fun. Tracey

5 Seville Pony Club Newsletter Page 5 Seville Pony Club goes to the city. What young horse rider doesn t dream of being a mounted police officer? So the rush was on to assemble a bus and our pony club members. With a fantastic response from everyone we made the date. There were 52 of us aboard making laughter and noise from young and old. The tour at the police was short but interesting. With lots of calling out, laughter and blatant guessing we entertained ourselves with a quiz and prizes on the way to Macca s Croydon who shouted us each a Sunday. The showbags were full of products from companies that supported our excursion. The effort and enthusiasm shown by the committee and sponsors ensured we had a great day out together. Thank you everyone. Kirsty Wallace Young Aiden is making sure everyone s being good Thank you Downunder for your support A delicious morning tea too hard to resist Happy mingling with each other Megan and Wendy Sergeant Gatt welcoming us to the entrance dome Molly the police horse Trigger loved moving the large ball Trigger and Tarzan Too busy, interesting article Melissa wants her daughter to take her on the trail ride and says thanks to the organisers of the day!
