Thanks to those of you who have sent in reports and pictures of what you and your pony have been doing both at RVPC events and elsewhere. Remember this is your newsletter, so keep sending in your news. A reminder for all members new and old that turnout for rallies and other instruction should be P.C. sweatshirt / shirt and P.C. tie / Jods can be cream, beige or dark coloured / gloves / hair tied up and in a net no pony tails on you / body protector recommended for jumping / jodhpur or riding boots with a smooth sole. All tack should be clean and sound. PAST EVENTS The rallies on every third Saturday at Ashday Hall and the first Sunday in the month at Wilsden E.C. have seen a good turnout of both junior and senior members. At Wilsden we have been able to do horse care as well. On Saturday 18 th November the Ashday rally was a working hunter clinic with judge and trainer Helen Taylor from Huddersfield. With our younger riders jumping 30cm and the seniors 90cm this was a very popular event with everyone wanting another one (in the pipeline!). So what s the difference between Showjumping and Working Hunter apart from the colour of the fences Helen kept telling riders to kick on and move faster. So working hunter jumps have to be attacked at pace it was quite scary watching at times given the size and no. of fences in the arena.

2 Jack Robinson, Lucy Marshall and Millie Jones checking out the working hunter jumps. On Friday 27 th October the Annual Presentation Disco was held at Siddal Rugby Club. With a Halloween theme Sian and Leslee had dressed the tables with Halloween pumpkins, you had dressed up suitably ghouly Becca looked as though she had nearly been decapitated! In addition, nearly everyone who had an award to collect turned up. We had a faster time but an unfortunate stop left us in second place. Well done everybody. Open team 90/95 of Victoria Rathmell, Gina Speakman, Lauren Dunning and Anna Basford.

3 In the Intermediate jumping Emily Wood ad Victoria Rathmell jumped clear and Amelia and Lucy Biggins had a few faults with the team ending up on 4 faults and were placed 6 th. Holme Valley Team Dressage The Ryburn Princesses (Hannah Marshall, Anna Basford, Amelia Dumbleton and Victoria Rathmell came 4 th in the afternoon competition Prelim 18.

4 COUNTRYSIDE LIVE Several members entered this hugely popular event at the Great Yorkshire Showground. Grace Wainwright on Warner won the Junior Equitation and Junior MM and then went on to take the Supreme Championship. In the Showjumping Emily Wood jumped clear in the PC Pony class. PONY CLUB MEMBERS REMEMBER THE WAR HORSES On Saturday 11 th November members Eleanor Pickles, Anna Cullen and Holly Powell with ponies Katie and Coco attended the Armistice Service at Northowram War Memorial to lay a wreath to remember the horses and animals who took part in wars since 1914.

5 FORTHCOMING EVENTS Rallies: Sunday 3 rd December at Wilsden E.C. with Emily Wilkinson and Jeanette Wheeler instructing riding. The horse care will focus on Conformation and the skeleton of the horse this is a round in the Area Quiz (see below) while our very young members will be learning about their horses tack and practicing how to groom / brush their pony properly. The Rally on Sat 9 th Dec. at Ashday Hall will start at 12noon and will be a mixed 1hour lesson of flat / jump with Liz instructing. Bookings for both rallies to Liz by please. Rallies cost 8 please bring cash / correct money to make it easier for the rally organiser to collect. COMPETITIONS On Thursday 28 th December we have our annual Biathlon at Rookes Farm, Norwood Green. This is a shooting (under 8 s will do bean bag throwing) and running event for all members a schedule is attached with this newsletter. There is a parent / member laser run competition (this is the same as the competition that we ran at Senior Camp). All members are welcome. Shooting practices take place every Wed (except 1 st in month) from 5pm and every Saturday morning 10 1pm at Rookes Farm. We don t charge for shooting practice but there is an entry fee for the competition this raises money to pay for the targets and pellets used at practices. On Sunday 31 st Dec 1 3pm at Wilsden E.C. we will be having a Fun Christmas Show / Rally with festive themed mounted games and showjumping with relays and novelty classes. Come in your best Christmas tinsel. We have booked the 2 schools with one for H & P games and the other set up for jumping. There will be something for everyone but if you can t get your pony there why not come along and help. On Sunday 7 th January 2018 we are holding our Annual Team Showjumping Competition at Woodnook Schedule attached. With an Absolute beginners max. height 45cm / novice 60 / Intermediate 75 and Open 85cm classes there is something for everyone. (Non-members / parents can make up teams). We have also added 2 Dengie classes this year for the first time. Note all entries have to be pre-booked and paid, so that times can be sent out for all competitors. On Sunday Afternoon 4 th Feb 2018 the Area Quiz is being held at Wilsden E.C. There are 10 rounds of questions on, in no particular order: 1. The Pony Club around the world 2. Name that system 3. Cause & Effect Conformation 4. Alphabet Soup General equine knowledge 5. What is this? Points of horse & Skeleton 6. Pairs Round Diseases 7. Individual Round Tack Room 8. Abbreviations e.g. TPC = The Pony Club 9. Before & After e.g. Show **** Worm = Show Ring Worm 10. Picture Round Venue & Event United Kingdom Teams will be made up of: 1 Member 12 years & under 1 Member 14 years & under 1 Member 16 years & under 1 Member of any age All ages will be taken from the 1st January We should be able to send 2 teams. Louise Jones is organising practices for those interested, so contact her on milliemojo77@gmail.com or The Christmas holidays would be a good time to get together. If oversubscribed preference will be given to those who get to the practices.

6 Sunday 25 th Feb at Wilsden E.C. starting at 1pm we are running a dressage competition which includes Dengie Novice and Intermediate classes as well as a BD Intro and Prelim class. Schedule to follow soon, but make sure you reserve the date. OTHER ACTIVITIES BADGES Congratulations to Jack Robinson and Grace Briggs who have achieved their Bird Watchers Achievement Badge (collect at your next rally). If anyone else wants to do this you have to produce a scrap book with details (name, where they live) photos of 12 birds or more that you have seen in your garden or on walks. HUNTING The Bramham Moor Hunt will be holding their Childrens meet (I think at Harewood House) on Sat 30 th Dec 2017 which is an ideal opportunity for members to go out hunting. Some of you have been before when you took your Hunting Certificate but as many will be new to this activity we will insist that anyone planning to go, attends a Preparation Evening on Wed 13 th Dec from at Westfield Farm, Southowram (Marshalls) to learn about hunt etiquette and what to expect. Note that members of the hunt or PC senior members will accompany the younger less experienced members rather than parents. TACK FOR SALE Got tack and horse clothing that s good as new? Then put it for sale on our NEW RVPC Facebook page. NB. You can also put wanted ads on. FOR SAFETY REASONS you can t advertise second hand riding hats or body protectors not up to Level Standard. There's a link on the RVPC page to the RVPC For Sale Page. It's only for members, they need to go on the page and request to be added.
