The majority of summer vacations are over and everyone is settling back into the normal, daily grind. School is back in session and we are getting back down to business here at the Lodge. Speaking of school, your Lodge is participating in Lee County School s Stuff the Bus campaign. Having so many children around with the need for school supplies, we have set up a donation box in the Club Room for donations (pens, pencils, paper, folders, etc.). We will be taking donations until after Labor Day weekend. Please stop by and pitch in! Also, with the start of school, there are buses on the road again. Please use extra caution on the streets and highways. If you are not familiar with the School Bus Stop Law, you can go to to read the law. When buses are present, children are present. We typically close the pool for the season on Labor Day. Since the majority of members have taken their vacations and will be sticking around the area more, we have elected to keep it open for the remainder of the week closing on Sunday, September 7th. There will be a pool clean up day on September 13th beginning at 9:00 AM. If you have enjoyed the pool this summer, please come help us get it ready for winter. We will go back to having meals on Friday nights in the Club Room. The menu is in your newsletter and is posted on the Club Room monitor. There will be live entertainment on selected Fridays during the remainder of the year. The next performance is scheduled for September 26th. Rob Matthews will perform for us from 8:00 PM until 11:00 PM. Come and enjoy a meal and entertainment! There is still a little time left to sign up for the Elks sponsored 7th Annual Wounded Warriors Golf Tournament. It will be held on September 6th at Carolina Trace Country Club. Registration starts at 11:30 AM with a Shot Gun Start at 1:00 PM. This is a great cause and will help to make the daily lives of our Wounded Warriors a little bit easier. Gather up a 4 man team and come out and enjoy! There are still some members who have not paid their 2014 dues. Letters have been sent out as a reminder. Please get your dues in as soon as possible. In the near future, we will be making dues payment easier by offering an online credit card payment option. Lastly, your Lodge needs your continued efforts in recruiting new members. Sponsor a friend or family member TO- DAY! Most members are unaware that if you sponsor eleven members or reinstatements in any given Elk year, you receive a gold watch with the Elk logo from Grand Lodge! 2 Labor Day Cookout - Sept. 1st Our annually Labor Day cookout will be Monday, September 1. Hotdogs, hamburgers and all the fixings along with drinks will be served from 12-2pm. In addition to food and fun at the pool, we will have a waterslide setup in the lower parking lot for the kids to enjoy. The slide will be setup from School Supply Drive (Stuff the Bus) Our lodge is holding a school supply drive to help out Lee County Community in Schools. Headed by Mike McGraw, PER, we are asking for members to place school supplies (pencils, pens, paper, etc.) in the provided boxes in the club room. This event will run through mid September. Supplies will then be delivered to the CIS and be used by students throughout Lee County. No time to shop? You can also make a monetary donation to Communities In Schools designated for Schools Supplies to P.O. Box 1132 Sanford, NC District Deputy Clinic - September 10 Bob Miller, District Deputy to the Grand Exalted Ruler, will be holding his first clinic of the year on Sunday, August 10 at the Fayetteville lodge. If you are interested in attending this event and finding out what s going on with other Elks around our state, please contact Ed Wesley. If you propose and initiate three new members in the current Elk year, the proposer will receive a free lodge function for two. At the end of the year the proposer who initiates the most new members will receive a very nice gift certificate. Attendance: Attend six lodge meetings during the current Elk year, (April-March) and receive a free lodge functions for two. (You must sign in to get credited for attendance).
