5 Lessons Final Night! April 28, 2010 students and angels! Please join us for our final night of lessons on Wednesday, April 28, 7:00 to 9:00 pm. We will have fun taking pictures and enjoying finger foods. Angels, your help in bringing finger foods would be appreciated. Plates and napkins will be provided, no forks or spoons. KITCHEN KLATTER Thank you very much for continuing to bring food and helping in the kitchen. We are averaging well over 100 dancers at each dance, and it seems nearly everyone enjoys eating as much as dancing! April 6 No Dance Closed for Elections April 20 Let s celebrate Earth Day and the coming of Spring! Our visitors (and members) continue to rave about the wonderful treats we always have. Let s just bring our regular fare sandwiches, cheese and crackers, chips and dips, appetizers, veggies, fruits, nuts, pies, cakes, brownies, cookies, cupcakes, all kinds of desserts. You all know what to do, and you re really good at it. Especially that wonderful lady that brings those absolutely awesome sugar cookies! We can always use an extra hand (or two) in the kitchen. Your help, before and after the dance, is sincerely appreciated. SWINGIN SINGLES WINS LET S TOOT OUR HORN AWARD We are proud to announce that our club has been awarded the Horn Blower award for the year of 2009, from the Missouri Federation of Square and Round Dance Clubs, Inc. This award recognizes clubs that strive to promote publication of square and round dance club activities in local and state media; participate in district and state functions; strive to improve public relations with nonmembers, and encourage all square and round dance clubs to set and attain goals they can be proud of. To earn this award, the Swingin Singles completed the following items: Was recognized in at least six articles in local newspapers Published at least five articles in the bi-monthly Doin s, the official publication of MO Square and Round Dancers Participated in philanthropic activities such as benefit dances and dance fund raisers for needy organizations Participated at our NW District Dance with a minimum of one square (8 dancers) of Swingin Singles Participated at our Missouri State Festival with a minimum of one square (8 dancers) of Swingin Singles Participated as a Club in community events (parades, fall festivals, etc.) Had a ½ page ad in the Annual MO Festival Book Hosted a Missouri Federation State Board meeting Conducted a complete set of mainstream lessons Congratulations to all of the members of the Swingin Singles for earning this award! This is only the second year in the history of the Let s Toot Our Horn program that our club has achieved this honor. I guess this means that in addition to being Jay s Whoopers we are also Missouri Horn Blowers! Congratulations and Thank You for supporting the Swingin Singles! Best regards, Lois

The newly elected officers will take office effective June 1 of the year they are elected and serve through May 31 of the following year. The newly elected officers are invited to attend the May Board of Officers Meeting. Get Well Soon! Floyd Bartley is home recovering from a quadruple by-pass heart surgery and is during well. Dora Nation fell Sunday, March 28, and broke her foot. She is home recovering from surgery. Carolyn Ellison has been in the hospital for several days because of her diverticulitis. She is hoping to be able to go home on Thursday, April 1, where her recovery will continue. Carolyn Lynn had eye surgery on Tuesday, March 30, and is doing well. Wilber Auernheimer had eye surgery the week of March 29, and is doing well. We wish them a speedy recovery. These folks are an important part of our Square Dance Family. Please remember them with cards, phone calls, and well wishes. Perhaps someone can help with rides to the doctor, run errands, or provide a meal. If you know someone who should be added to our sick call list, please call or send an to Bob Harden, our Newsletter Editor, give him the information and he will add their name to the list. If we have left anyone out, we re sorry. This is a new area of our newsletter that we re trying to get started, and we need your help so no one is overlooked. 7 Presidents Message Hello, everyone. Looks like Spring has finally arrived and our Members are out having lots of fun square dancing! We had a great turnout for the Tenderfoot Dance at Croco Hall, and the Heart of America Federation weekend was awesome! night there were 211 dancers and night entertained 321 dancers. Wow! Tim Tyl knows how to draw a crowd, doesn t he? Remember, he ll be at the HASSDA weekend April 23-24, so go dance with him again. The Swingin Singles were well represented at the Heart of America Federation dance, and a special Thank You! to Gloria Cain and June Walker for our Club s beautiful Showcase of Ideas table, and to Glenda Danner and Francis Tiller for participating in the Fashion Show. evening, Mr. Bill Roles was awarded the Heart of America Caller of the Year award. What an honor for a caller who has given so much to the square dancing community. Bill is also a wonderful supporter of the Swingin Singles and is nearly always at our dances. When you see Bill, please join me in congratulating him and thanking him for all that he does. At our April 20 th dance, we will be electing our Officers for the coming year. In this newsletter you will find the Slate of Officers. We will also be accepting nominations from the floor on April 20 th. If you want to run for an office, please let us know. There are also committees that need to be chaired, and have committee members. Please do what you can to support our club, and if you are asked to help JUST SAY YES. What a great time to unload your closet of those square dance outfits you no longer wear. For those who are wanting to add to your dance attire, now s the perfect time to purchase some items at super prices. Guidelines for a Super Sale: The club will furnish clothes racks; please bring your items on hangers. If the item is free, please be sure to put a tag marked FREE on it. If you are selling clothes, we d really appreciate it if you d stick around and help with the clothesline sale.
