2 FOOD DRIVE Time: Monday, October 2 nd - Friday, October 6 th 2017; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Location: Center for Student Involvement, Memorial Union, Lower Level 014 A collaborative effort between Tigers-In-Service (TIS) and the Center for Student Involvement to raise and collect canned good donations for the Tiger Food Exchange, our campus food pantry for students. TIS is a student-run program that acts as a clearing-house for volunteers wishing to participate in community service activities. Our mission is to promote and provide community service activities for students including: local service opportunities, alternative service weekends, and alternative service breaks. TIS hosts service projects on national days of service and works with community agencies to find volunteer opportunities. These activities encourage social responsibility, community involvement, and civic engagement. The Tiger Food Exchange, located on the first floor of Forsyth Library just around the corner from the wall of news media screens, provides a central location for the campus food pantry. The space is available to drop off as well as pick up food, is a distribution point for garden produce for secure as well as food insecure patrons, and is a research space with information about nutrition, cooking and gardening. Rules: 1. Canned goods will be collected from Monday, October 2 nd through Friday, October 6 th 2017; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm in the Center for Student Involvement. Student organizations receive points based on matching the number of items they bring based on their total membership. For example, if a group has 15 members and they bring in 15 items, they will get 10 points. a. Up to 30 points can be awarded or 3 items per member b. Membership numbers will be pulled from TigerLink Roster c. Canned food items must clearly state what organization they are for in order to receive credit 2. Please read over the information below about what donations are currently being accepted. 3. Groups will also have the opportunity to earn service hours for this event as well a. 30 points = 3 hours b. 20 points = 2 hours c. 10 points = 1 hour 4. Groups will still have to have one member upload the hours to TigerLink in order to receive service 5. The student organization that brings the most canned food items will also receive FREE donuts and coffee the Monday following Homecoming
3 Most Desired and Needed Donations Canned Meat Peanut Butter Packaged meals/sides (Ramen Noodles, Canned Ravioli, Chili, Mac & Cheese, Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper, Baked Beans, etc.) Garbanzo Beans & Black Beans Canned Tomatoes Chunky Style Soups Pasta/Pasta Sauce Individually Packaged Snack Items (for easy study-break fuel- granola/protein bars, popcorn, crackers/cracker sandwiches, dried fruit, apple sauce, etc.) Condiments (Ketchup, Mustard, Jams/Jellies, Salad Dressing, Hot Sauce, etc.) Seasoning Packets/Sauces (Taco Seasoning, Gravy Mixes, Manwich, Enchilada Sauce, etc.) Thanksgiving Basket Ingredients (Cranberry Sauce, Canned Pumpkin, Yams/Sweet Potatoes, Turkey Gravy (canned or dry mixes), Stuffing Mixes (Turkey or Herb flavored), Evaporated Milk, Pie Crust)
4 SOCIAL MEDIA CHALLENGE Time: Monday, October 2 nd - Friday, October 6 th 2017; Location: Anywhere! To support the theme of Homecoming: Tigers through the Decades, CSI will feature a daily social media contest. Each day of the week leading up to the Homecoming game will feature a different decade. Organizations will have a chance every day to post a picture on Facebook of an individual or a group of members dressed in appropriate spirit attire for whichever decade is featured that day. Organizations will get 5 points daily just if they post a photo to Facebook. The top liked picture each day will get an additional 5 points and the most liked photo overall will get an additional 10 points. Rules: 1. Organizations will post a creative picture in appropriate decade attire to Facebook and tag CSI in the to receive 5 participation points. a. If an organization does not tag CSI they will not receive points. b. It must also be clear which organization is posting; if CSI cannot tell what the organization is they will not receive points. c. Just by participating each day organizations can receive 50 points; so make sure to post! 2. The most liked photo will receive an additional 5 points. 3. On Friday the most liked photo overall will receive an additional 10 points. Monday: 1950 s Tuesday: 1960 s Wednesday: 1970 s Thursday: 1980 s Friday: 1990 s
5 Chalking Competition Time: Monday, October 2 nd 9:00 am Location: Center for Student Involvement, Campus Quad Groups will have from Friday, September 29 th at 4:30 pm until Monday, October 2 nd at 9:00 am to decorate a square on the Quad for Homecoming. Groups are requested to use the sidewalks between the Union and Picken Hall for their chalking. All entries will be rated on a scale from 1-5 on the following criteria: Use of Homecoming Theme, Creativity/Originality, Visual Effect, and Use of Organization/FHSU Name. Rules: 1. The name of the student organization and Fort Hays State University must be included 2. Chalking must be created by currently enrolled students. 3. Chalking must take place in the Quad 4. Organizations may use chalk provided by CSI as long as they pick it up before 4:30 on Friday, September 29 th. 5. Maximum size will 1 large square on the Quad 6. Chalking will be disqualified for the following reasons a. Profanity b. Use of any design that is racially, sexually, religiously or otherwise offensive as determined by the contest judges c. Depiction of firearms or related weaponry d. Chalking that exceeds the 1 square limit e. Any artwork not done with chalk f. Unable to tell which organization chalking belongs to 7. Chalking must be completed by 9:00 am Monday, October 2 nd in order to be qualified for judging 8. Chalking Competition winning organizations will be announced at the Relay and Yell Like Hell Competition on Wednesday, October 4 th.
6 University Activities Board Event: Daniel Martin Time: Tuesday, October 3 rd at 8:00 PM Location: Beach/Schmidt PAC- Sheridan Hall Groups will have the chance to earn participation points by attending indicated events during Homecoming Week. Students are required to swipe-in with their TigerCard. At the check-in location there will be organization rosters for all the competing groups. Each member will have to initial by their name in order to receive credit for attending. If an organization has at least 75% of their membership in attendance they will receive 25 points. The rosters will be pulled from TigerLink, so make sure to update your roster if your group wants to receive points! Students are able to initial for more than one organization if they are in multiple competing groups. Daniel Martin Ferrari was influenced by magic at the early age of 5 by many famous magicians including Houdini, Doug Henning, Siegfried & Roy, Mark Wilson, and by Illusionist David Copperfield. Daniel has also been inspired by musical artists such as Jon Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Prince, U2, Motley Crue, and by the theatrics of the rock band Kiss. Daniel Martin has been performing his magic for 28 years throughout the country. What he has done to take magic into the new millennium is to choreograph original music, with magic featuring a live band. The music is the moving force behind these spectacles of Daniel Martin s new breed of cutting-edge magic. Daniel appearing all over the entire country, has performed for audiences of all ages, to sell out concerts and tours. Mr. Daniel Ferrari has appeared on several television shows, as well as radio programs. He has also opened for many national music acts across the country.
7 THE 400-METER RELAY Time: Wednesday, October 4 th ; 7:30-9:00 Location: Lewis Field Stadium This is a timed race, where a 5-person relay team will have to run around the track at Lewis Field Stadium. Organizations will be running in heats, with up to 6 organizations participating in each heat; heats will be assigned upon check in for the event. Rules: 1. The Homecoming Team reserves the right to refuse participation to anyone not meeting decency standards. 2. Participants must follow the predetermined course. 3. Participants may only represent one organization. 4. There will be four parts to the relay, each 100-meter section is described below. a. Chicken Race i. One participant will be required to place a balloon between their knees and waddle to the next portion of the race. b. Three-Legged Race i. Two participants, each have one leg tied to their partner, must work together to get to the next portion of the race. c. Egg Drop i. One participant will have to walk balancing an egg (golf ball) on a spoon until they get to the next portion of the race; if they drop it they must return to the beginning of their section. d. 100-Meter Dash i. One participant must dash to the finish line. 5. All supplies will be provided 6. Tiger 400-Meter Relay winning organizations will be announced at the Tiger Bonfire on Thursday, October 5 th.
8 Yell Like Hell Time: Wednesday, October 4 th ; 7:30-9:00 Location: Lewis Field Stadium Student organizations are tasked with creating, memorizing, and performing a chant that incorporates their Tiger spirit, the theme of Homecoming 2017, and the student organization. This event will follow the 400-Meter Relay. Rules: 1. Each Organization must create a cheer or chant no longer than 60 seconds. 2. Cheer MUST relate to FHSU and the student organization. Cheers that do not incorporate both topics will be disqualified. 3. All Cheers and Chants MUST be memorized. Cell phones or papers are not allowed. 4. No crude or offensive language can be included in the organizations chant. a. In the result that an organization adds crude or offensive language they will be disqualified from the event and will be penalized 50 points off their total homecoming points. 5. Judges will be judging the chant on the following: a. Chant Originality b. School spirit c. Costumes 6. Yell Like Hell winning organizations will be announced on at the Tiger Bonfire on Thursday, October 5 th.
9 TIGER BONFIRE Time: Thursday, October 5 th ; 7:30-9:00 PM Location: Field next to the Robins Center Join the Alumni Association and Fraternity & Sorority Life for our annual Tiger Bonfire. Students will have to swipe in with their Tiger Cards at one of the designated spots for participation points. Identical to Tuesday night, the swipe in table will have the rosters of all the competing student organizations and students will initial at their name. The Victor E. March will start at Stadium Place Apartments at 7:00PM and will make its way over to the Robbins Center by 7:30, led by the University President, Homecoming Royalty Nominees, and the Marching Band. At the check-in location there will be organization rosters for all the competing groups. Each member will have to initial by their name in order to receive credit for attending. If an organization has at least 75% of their membership in attendance they will receive 25 points. The rosters will be pulled off of TigerLink, so make sure to update your roster if your group wants to receive points! Students are able to initial for more than one organization if they are in multiple competing groups. HOMECOMING PARADE Time: Saturday, October 7 th ; 1 PM Location: Main Street in Downtown Hays Available on TigerLink, student groups can sign up to have a float as part of the Homecoming Parade. During the homecoming parade, any entry wishing to enter the competition will be rated on a scale from 1-5 on the following criteria: costume, theme, creativity, and visual effect (design, craftsmanship). Entries will be processed through the 2017 Homecoming Form. Successful participation in the Homecoming Parade will result in 15 points being added to your organization s total. If your organization wins any of the Parade awards, you will be given an additional 15 points. Please remember that even if you sign up for the student organization competition, you will need to complete the separate application for the Homecoming Parade. HOMECOMING ROYALTY Time: Saturday, October 7 th ; Halftime of Homecoming Game Location: Lewis Field Stadium Organizations also have the chance to nominate up to members for Homecoming Royalty. An organization may nominate up to 1 King and 1 Queen. Any group that nominates will receive 10 points and if they have representation in the finalist category they will receive an additional 10 points. If a group has their member win Homecoming Royalty they will receive an additional 20 points. Please remember that even if you sign up for the student organization competition, you will need to complete the separate application on TigerLink for the Homecoming Royalty.
10 HOMECOMING GAME Time: Saturday, October 7 th ; 7PM Location: Lewis Field Stadium Come cheer on the FHSU Tigers Football team as they take on Pittsburg State University. Students are required to swipe-in with their TigerCard. At the check-in location there will be organization rosters for all the competing groups. Each member will have to initial by their name in order to receive credit for attending. If an organization has at least 75% of their membership in attendance they will receive 25 points. The rosters will be pulled off of TigerLink, so make sure to update your roster if your group wants to receive points! Students are able to initial for more than one organization if they are in multiple competing groups. The Homecoming Week winning organization will be announced on the CSI Facebook page Monday morning.
