2 Chapter Director s Page Hi Everyone, I hope everyone has been able to enjoy some of this beautiful weather. I have been able to ride 556 miles in the last 8 days. Still a bit sore and working on getting those arm muscles back in shape. I am still working on strength in my left arm especially when moving arm out to the side. Slow process but getting there thank God. Looking forward to SC rally May 3-5th. At our next gathering I will turn the Chapter Director role over to Renee and Eugene Dent. The team I assembled is staying to support the new Directors and I am proud of that. I also will help when ever I can. I am very proud of what we have accomplished as a chapter. There are Lots of good people in our chapter and in our organization. I will continue with the newsletter and attending as many activities as I can. My shoulder is getting stronger so I will teach CPR/FirstAid again next month. I have enjoyed leading our chapter the last 5 years there have been challenges and lots of rewards too. In closing I will not become a JAM a term used in our organization for someone who becomes Just Another Member. I have always thought that was a negative term. My husband came up with a better term AIM which stands for ANOTHER IMPORTANT MEMBER. Without members there would be no need for Chapter Directors, Presidents or any officers. 3 Assistant Chapter Director s Page Hi everyone, The month started out with a dinner ride to Silver Bay in Easley. An ARC class was supposed to take place the next day but was cancelled due to foul weather thus we had a small group in attendance. We had a good time with three members attending from Chapter E, Don and Rhonda Weed and David Thompson. It was great to see Mickey and Connie and Rex and Bonnie as they have been absent from our group for a while. The food and company was good as always. April 12th saw us driving to Vermont to help move Mom (Phyllis Salls) to assisted living. It was a very stressful time for us and the sleet, rainy, snowy weather didn't help. We were extremely happy to return home on the 20th. April 23rd we attended our team meeting at Mutts Barbecue in Easley. We had the whole team attend so it was a productive, enjoyable evening. April 28th was our Chapter F monthly meeting at Mutts Barbecue. We had two visitors and twenty-five members attend. Barbara announced that she would start next month's meeting by turning it over to Eugene and Renee. Goody remained with Libby as she is still recovering from illness and Goofy stayed with Renee (she forgot to bring him). Xiao Dan won chapter pride and one of the jackpots. Eugene won GWRRA number and Renee won newsletter question. Brian won the second jackpot. Mileage winners were 1st place Barbara, 2nd place Butch and Pat and third place Eugene. 4 Couple of the Year Page We were truly surprised and honored to be selected as this year s Chapter F Couple of the Year. In 2006 we were the selected to be the Chapter COY, but part of that selection process was based on us willing to compete for District COY. We had wanted to and won the District COY on the last Sweethearts Weekend until it was restarted this year. Since 2006 we have tried to make our Chapter selection have no strings attached, no coercing of any kind. Having had the process done right really makes it an honor to us. Thank you. Our month of April has been a bit slower than most months, but with major changes. The Wednesday after our last Chapter meeting Ruth finally had her knee replacement surgery. I met with the doctor right after surgery and he indicated all went well. Also, I needed to call his office to have Ruth be put on the schedule for the other knee to be replaced. He thought the office was scheduling for August. She was on the list before she ever was taken to her room. This surgery had taken eight months from the day she had learned GHS had canceled her first doctors surgical rights (doctor had given two months notice he was leaving GHS) the day she was going in for pre-op. Ruth is amazing, she was probably walking better at this month s meeting than last month s meeting. I expect she will be able to go without a cane within a couple of weeks. As many of you know, this is not a pain free process and progress is gained with pain. This next weekend is our District Rally in Newberry. We will be there with cane, walker or whatever it takes. 5 District Educator s Page Practice It is that time of year again, Spring you say! No, Practice time. Some of us have been lucky enough to be able to ride all winter, at least occasionally but others have been out rarely. Before it finally warms up fully and the rides get in full swing now is a good time to get in some practice. Although a TRC or ARC or other structured class is good you don t need a class to practice some essential skills. All you need is a vacant parking lot and something to use as cones. Tennis balls cut in half or even some sheets of paper held down with fishing sinkers. Find a school or church lot that isn t being used, doesn t need to be large, just vacant. Your practice doesn t need to be elaborate either. Set up some markers in a straight line 10 or 15 feet apart and weave back and forth between them. Sounds easy, but you may be surprised! As you get better move markers closer together. This also gives you a u-turn at each end, something many riders have trouble with. Also do figure 8 s which gives you a turn in each direction. These two simple exercises will help get you in shape and are the building blocks for all formal training courses. Remember, riding up and down the road and turning in and out of the driveway doesn t require much but what about an emergency situation where a quick swerve or a turn around on a small road is required? 7 Chapter Events April 6, 2018 Chapter F Dinner Ride Table one at Dinner Ride. Friday night April 6, 2018 we had our dinner ride at Silverbay in Easley. Three of our friends from Chapter E Don & Rhonda Weed and David Thompson joined us. Our participants were Steve & Evelyn Hindman ( his shoulder is getting better), Gary Campi & Ruthie Greenwood, Eugene & Renee Dent, Rex & Table two dinner ride. Bonnie Suttles, Barbara & Sasha Taylor and Connie & Mickey Koziornsky. We had a great time visiting and enjoying the seafood. Sorry Mickey did not realize you were not at the table until I saw the pictures on the computer. Mike Melton cancelled the ARC because of rain forecast. So they did not join us for dinner as planned. April 21, 2018 Landrum Ride The day was really beautiful. It was about 34 degrees when Barb, Sasha & Freddie left home on the trike heading to Easley. It really felt good to be riding again. Barbara along with Sasha & Freddie met Brian & Mandy at the Walmart in Easley. They were in their car because Brian had a flat on his trike and Mandy is in a walking boot due to Achilles tendon injury. We met Steve & Evelyn at the Spinx on highway 11 and Highway 14 they were also in their car because Steve is not comfortable on his twowheeler yet from his rotator cuff surgery. We continued on to the Southside Smokehouse and Grill in Steve,Evelyn, and Mandy checking out the menu. Landrum SC. Victor and Xiao Dan met us at the Southside Smokehouse Grill restaurant and they were able to ride the trike. It was really great to see everyone. Victor and Xaio Dan have been doing a lot of traveling the last few months. All over the USA and overseas to China and Sweden too. They shared pictures and stories about their travels. The food was delicious they have many special dishes at the restaurant. Great food and great conversation. The staff at the restaurant was friendly and attentive. We will have to go there again. After Lunch, Brian & Mandy and Steve & Evelyn headed into Landrum to do some shopping. Since it was the first long ride for Barbara she headed for home the long way going down the scenic highway 11 then Westminster then back to Georgia. It was a gorgeous day and it warmed up nicely. Barb was sore when I got home and tired but enjoyed the day and my GWRRA family! 7 of 16

8 Chapter Events April 23, 2018 Team Meeting Monday night we had our team meeting at Mutt's. The entire team was in attendance and we had fun as usual. So happy to see Libby and Ruth were able to make the meeting. Both are recuperating from big surgeries. Libby from a hip replacement and Ruth from a total knee replacement. They both were on canes and will not win a race for awhile. Please note their dueling canes in the picture! We discussed upcoming SC rally plans and plans for future activities for the chapter. Participants were Brian & Mandy Gillespie, Buzz & Bev Laplante, Eugene & Renee Dent, Libby & Santiago Santos, Dave & Ruth Meyer, Butch & Pat MacGregor, and Barbara & Sasha Taylor. Team meeting everyone was there. April 28, 2018 Monthly Gathering/Gettogether April 28th was Chapter F monthly gathering. We had 25 members and 2 guests. John & Janet Crabtree joined us again they almost are members they visit frequently. Don't worry Rhonda we know they are just visitors. It was a great night for one of our members Xiao Dan Gardner she was a winner all night. First she had her number called for a door prize, then for chapter pride, and she also won one of the jackpots. It was fun to see her win and she loved it! Goody is still with Libby Santos. Libby was in the hospital for a low potassium level and was not able to make the gathering. Renee forgot to bring Goofy to the gathering. So Goody and Goofy did not move this month. Having so much fun. GWRRA number was Eugene Dent. Renee won the newsletter question money. Brian Gillespie won the other jackpot. Monthly mileage winners were Third place Eugene 187 miles, Second place Butch & Pat MacGregor 225, and First Place Barbara Taylor with 461 miles and that was in one week! I am so glad to be back on my trike. 8 of 16

Guess what, she even forgot to bring me to the gathering!! So I am stuck here again this month. Hopefully I get to go more places! Till Next time Goofy Junior 9 of 16

Barbara is finally almost over her Bronchitis and her shoulder is much better. We were able to ride with her 461 miles on the trike in the last week. We had some beautiful weather. Thank you Lord. First we went on the Landrum ride. We met Brian and Mandy then continued on to Southside Smokehouse and Grill. The staff Landrum ride. was great. The food was really delicious and most of us could not eat all of what they served us. They have some unique food there. Not your ordinary barbecue place! It was great visiting with Victor and Xiao Dan. They have been traveling all over the world for business and they shared pictures and stories about their travels. It was a beautiful day and Barbara took the long way home seeing Team Meeting at Mutt s Caesar s Head and Table top Rock on the way home. We also attended the team meeting at Mutt s on April,23. It was a rainy night on April 23 so went in the car. On Wednesday Barbara took the trike to Lou Achille for him to repair the brake lights. Saturday April 28th was beautiful and we rode the trike. Full moon and clear skies wonderful evening to RIDE. We all loved it. The gathering was fun too we enjoyed seeing Xaio Dan win things and her reaction.
