2 Chapter Director s Page Hi Everyone, We have had lots of crazy weather lately. I finally was able to ride my trike. It was only 30 miles but it really felt good to be in the saddle again. I did bundle up that day because it was cool. My shoulder did not hurt the day I rode. The next day I woke up with Bronchitis and my shoulder a little sore. As soon as I can get rid of this bronchitis I will be riding again. This last gathering I selected Dave & Ruth Meyer to be our new Couple of the Year. Since they have been picking the previous Couples as COY coordinators it was tricky surprising them. It helped that Ruth is having a knee replacement and their thoughts were on that. It was great to surprise them. I only shared the news with Renee because she brings the flowers for the new Couples of the Year. Dave & Ruth both have done a lot for Chapter F and I am proud to select them. I am looking forward to the SC Rally coming up the first weekend in May. Our National rally is close this year in Knoxville, Tennessee. Both events will be a lot of fun please join me for these great events. April 7, 2018 Chapter will again be sponsoring a ARC riding course at Liberty. I will be providing drinks, snacks, chairs and canopy for the comfort of the riders. 3 Assistant Chapter Director s Page Hi everyone, We have had a cold but busy month again. On March 3rd, we visited Chapter A at Mama Penn s in Anderson. It was a great time as it was a double points event and we were able to visit with a lot of GWRRA members we don't often get to see. Goofy attended with us and Eugene and Renee. He was the center of attention at our table. March 9th, Dave and Ruth scheduled a dinner ride to Sweet P's in Piedmont. We had a very nice turnout of Chapter F members and JW, Yolonda Worley and Goofy joined us. March 17th, Brian had scheduled a ride to Landrum but due to the weather it was cancelled until April. So come join us. March 19th, Buzz and Bev led the team meeting. Dave and Ruth, Butch and Pat, Brian, Mandy and Goofy attended. We discussed the SC District Rally event, the apron, scrapbook, attendance and other items. The feedback was very good. March 24th, was our Chapter F monthly meeting at Mutts Barbecue. We had no visitors but a great number of members attended. Buzz presented Bev with a birthday cake and a dozen red roses. Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" and she was so surprised! Barbara thanked her for choosing to spend her birthday with Chapter F. Bev said later she couldn't think of a better place to spend it than with her Chapter F family. The sharing and caring of each other is what is important to this wonderful group of people. Dave and Ruth were presented with the Couple of the Year medallions to their surprise. They certainly deserve the honor as they strive even with health issues to be very involved. Goofy, "of course" went to Eugene and Goody is still with Libby. She was not able to attend due to illness. We all wish her a speedy recovery. Rod and Susan won both drawings, Bev won Chapter Pride drawing and Barbara won GWRRA number drawing. 4 District Educator s Page LEVELS TRAINING Are you in the GWRRA Levels Program and a Level I? Or want to sign up to be a Level I and don t know what comes next? Well Level I is just a commitment to ride safe. Everyone can commit to that right? And there is no commitment to go further in the program. But if you do, what is the next step, you ask. To advance to Level II requires a motorcycle/trike training course. Either a GWRRA or MSF certified on bike training course will fill the requirement. For new members or members that do not participate in a Chapter here are some places to get training. Most community colleges put on rider courses, beginner, intermediate and advanced. They have their own lot and MSF trainers. Anyone can sign up. GWRRA also has certified training and puts on training courses. Always at Wing Ding and also at some District Rallies. Also, the separate Districts schedule training during the year as suitable parking lots come available. This year South Carolina has two courses scheduled. An ARC (Advanced Rider Course) for two wheel machines will be held in Liberty, SC on April 7, A TRC (Trike Rider Course) will be held in Myrtle Beach, SC on March 17, Advance registration is required and can be completed through the SC District training calendar. The price is $35 and is a deal compared to what it cost at a college. I know some riders are saying I have been riding for years and never had an accident so why do a training course now. Well if you have never been trained, NOW is the best time. You WILL learn and become a safer rider. You WILL instill more confidence in your co-rider, especially doing a course two-up. 6 Double points night at SC -A. Chapter Events March 3, 2018 Chapter Visit to SC -A Participants from Chapter F were Buzz & Bev Laplante, Goofy, and Eugene & Renee Dent. It was a double points night so Chapters SC- E, SC-M, and SC-J also joined in the fun. Goofy also got a lot of attention that night. The food was good at Mama Penn s and the company wonderful. March 9, 2018 Chapter F Dinner Ride Having fun at Mama Penn s with SC- A. We had 17 participants for our monthly dinner ride. Participants were Rod & Susan Ashley, Eugene & Renee Dent, J.W & Yolanda and their granddaughter, Buzz & Bev Laplante, Tommy & Darlene Campbell, Heather & Miles Hooper, Brian & Mandy Gillespie, Dave & Ruth Meyer. They went to Sweet Pea s restaurant in Piedmont. Everyone said the food was good and they had fun. Careful Eugene if your face freezes like that you will be in trouble. Having FUN with our GWRRA family is always a goal. Good group and good food. March 10, 2018 Chapter visit to SC -E We had four members visit our friends at SC- E for their gathering. 7 Chapter Events March 19, 2018 Team Meeting The March team meeting was lead by Buzz & Bev Laplante. Participants were Dave & Ruth Meyer, Butch & Pat MacGregor, Brian & Mandy Gillespie and Buzz & Bev. Plans for SC rally were discussed. Team members are covering the items needed. March 24th, was our Chapter F monthly meeting at Mutts Barbecue. We had no visitors but 27 members attended. Buzz presented Bev with a birthday cake and a dozen red roses. Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" and she was so surprised! Barbara thanked her for choosing to spend her birthday with Chapter F. Bev said later she couldn't think of a better place to spend it than with her Chapter F family. The sharing and caring of each other is what is important to this wonderful group of people. Brian & Mandy were presented with a certificate of Appreciation for their dedication to Chapter F as our retiring Couple of the Year. Dave and Ruth were chosen as our New Couple of the Year and We have FUN at Chapter F. March 24, 2018 Monthly gathering presented with the Couple of the Year medallions and name tags to their surprise. They certainly deserve the honor as they strive even with health issues to be very involved. Barbara kept their selection a secret from everyone except Renee who brought the flowers. Goofy, "of course" went to Eugene and Goody is still with Libby. Libby was not able to attend due to the passing of Santiago's father. Libby called during the gathering and Santiago is really struggling with the loss of his father. Please keep them in your prayers. Rod and Susan won both drawings, Bev won Chapter Pride drawing and Barbara won GWRRA number drawing. No one got the award for newsletter question. 8 Goofy The Adventures of Goofy As told to Bev Laplante Goofy Junior I had a great month with Buzz and Bev. I got to stay warm, watch TV, interact with Ling Chau and the baby panda and attend the events they went to. March 3rd, I got to go to Chapter A at Mama Penn s in Anderson. I sat on the table and enjoyed dessert. The gals just loved me. March 9th dinner ride I got to go to Sweet P's in Piedmont. Part of the time I sat on Bev's lap and the rest of the time I got to sit in a chair by myself. I wasn't really hungry but did enjoy the company. March 19th, I got to sit in on the team meeting. I was ignored and Hanging out with Ling Chau. lonely without anyone to talk to. At least I got to get out of the house. I knew it would get better. March 24th, I was anxious to see who would be taking me home. We had a great time and I got to go home with Eugene and Renee again. I know I'll have lots of company with the birds and dogs. 9 Freddie Falcon Funster Chapter Mascot Live Mascot Corner Freddie Funster Sasha This has been an exciting month. We finally had a ride on the trike. It was only 30 miles but that is a start. We also took two trips this month. The first one we went to Florida to visit Barb s brothers. Next was a camping trip in the A-Liner camper with Jerry to Chattanooga. Sasha got to ride on the Incline railroad too. It was cold and rainy but it was fun to get out and about. We both like to snuggle so traveling and snuggling was just great. Hopefully more warm weather View from Look out mountain. and more riding next month. It was great to see Dave and Ruth surprised with being picked as the new Couple of the Year. We look forward to more fun in the near future. Sasha trying the ramp in the Dog park. The Incline Railroad was really something with a 72 degree grade so glad we did not have to walk it!
