Box 2585, Shallotte, NC A Message from our President... Summer is right around the corner and that means beach time and Full Moon Parties. We will be holding our first Full Moon Party on Wednesday May Sunset Beach directly behind the gazebo starting at dusk. If you have never been, come on out and give it a try. Just a bunch of Coastal Shag Club members and guests. Don t forget to bring your chair and a beverage. Looking forward to smiling faces. I want to remind everyone about the golf tournament that will be taking place at Brick Landing Golf Course on Friday September 5 th with a 1:00 PM shotgun start. If it seems like I am being redundant it s because I am. This is our major fundraiser for the year and we need volunteers and golfers. If you know anyone who plays golf please give them an application and let them know that all the money we raise from this event stays right here in Brunswick County. Join the Coastal Shag Club for Chili s night on Tuesday May 20th between 5 and 10 PM. Please come on out and bring a friend, neighbor or coworker and help us support our local charities. Remember, Chili s gives us 10% back on all sales for food and drinks. We are still looking for a few volunteers to help with the Shagging the Oyster Festival. Come on out and help don t be shy If you re scared say you re scared and if you re not, volunteer with the Coastal Shag Club!! Every first Thursday of the month the CSC Board Meeting is held at the Shallotte Moose Lodge 253 Holden Beach Road, Shallotte, NC, at 6:00pm and lasts about an hour, or so. 6 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT MEET DANNY SMITH AND EUNICE ALLISON Danny was born in Southport, NC in 1943 but grew up in Star, NC. He graduated from Star High School in His first job was working alongside his father as a mechanic for several years then as a traveling welding contractor. After getting married, he had two sons, Jeff and Chris. Several years later he met and married Eunice for 7 years in Southern Pines. They separated for 16 years and then found each other again at the Sandhills Shag Club in Rockingham, NC. Eunice was a cofounder of the shag club. After reuniting they spent 12 more years together in Brierwood Country Club Estates in Shallotte, NC where Danny is still working as the Brierwood Greens Superintendent and Mechanic. It was at this club he and Eunice started monthly shag dances in 2006 which later became the Coastal Shag Club in Both are CSC Charter members. Danny s favorite music is old Rock n Roll and Beach Music by Jim Quick and the Coastline Band. He and Eunice also enjoyed a Shagging Cruise with the Craig Woolard Band. Danny s future plans are to travel the USA in his RV. Eunice was born in Hamlet, NC where she grew up and graduated from Hamlet High. After graduation, she attended Beauty School in Charlotte, NC to become a Hair Stylist for the next 40 years. She won many trophies in Hair Styling Competitions throughout her career. Eunice married and had a son Spencer and daughter Andrea. Several years later she met and married Danny who loved to dance as much as she did. Her favorite music was Beach Music especially the Jim Quick & Coastline Band with Country music being her least favorite. With another couple, Eunice and Danny hit the road in a van for a 30-day vacation seeing the Western States (CA, NV, AZ, CO, TX) visiting Hoover Dam, Yellowstone National Park, Highest Point in Denver, Grand Canyon, and Las Vegas. In the Coastal Shag Club, Eunice was a very active member. She was the first Vice-President in 2007 and again 2008 and a Board Member in 2009 and After passing on June 2, 2013, Eunice is dearly missed by all of us. Her legacy is being remembered each year in June when the Coastal Shag Club presents the Eunice Allison Performing Arts Scholarship to a West Brunswick High School Senior.
