Forest Territory Report: Sequoias Yetta Hey from the Sequoias. Here we begin our final year of this incredible program. When they said it would go fast, they were not kidding. Enjoy every moment!! Soooooo, we finished of 2015 with a flurry. Had our holiday party, with some new games being brought into the mix. As we started 2016, we had our induction ceremony. Bowling event and SledFest. All were lots of fun. Around the corner is the annual Mardi Gras event, followed by winter camp. Hopefully there will be snow for some sled ridding. Hope to see everyone Bear Clan RW update: Aneen Neeshee, (Hell-o my friends) has gotten off to a great start for the Bear Clan. We all enjoyed the induction ceremony at the new location. Welcome new Sky Territory Outposts. Also welcome all the new officers. We look forward to Fluff Raiding you in the near future! Lots of fun was had by the Bear Clan daughters and dads at bowling. Not a lot of strikes were thrown, but we had ball (HA!). And the hill was fast and the hot chocolate was yummy at SledFest. Thank you to all the officers who made it such a great event. We are looking forward to Winter Camp and seeing all of the Skits and more snow. Until then, Friends Always! The Grizzly Grapevine: The Grizzly Grapevine Since the last vine, the Grizzlies were veeeeery busy. We began January with a rather paltry shownig at Induction. Not our fault, we were busy hibernating. But, we do wish to welcome Mark, Chloe and Elise to our posse. Onward to bowling, where the Grizzlies stuffed their paws into those disgusting, but stylish, red, white and blue bowling shoes, while tossing, bouncing and rolling a fine assortment of gutter balls. Congrats to Avery Breen as she was the Forest drawing winner. The afternoon was sure plenty of fun. Most Grizzlies returned to their winter slumber, except for the Provances. They spent their Saturday evening slipping and sliding at Sled Fest Part Deux. From what I hear, conditions were excellent. January was also packed with ads. And, plenty of them. We Grizzlies are in our 4th year and are willing to do whatever it takes to claim 4th-year superiority. How can you do this, you may ask? By selling almost $1,400 in Mardi Gras advertisements, that's how! It was a rare sight, but we Grizzlies used our giant bear paws to push the Sequoias into second place. Rumor has it, we also have the most raffle ticket sales. We are the champions of the world! Mardi Gras is next but we are all looking forward to camp. You will find us in the warm and comfy lodge! - Grizzly Breath Out
Fearless Fawns update: Yetta Hey. Greetings from the Fearless Fawns. The New Year is upon us. Our 4th and final year. And we're ready to have a blast. It was nice to meet all the new girls and dads along with the new officers at the induction ceremony. Bowling was alot of fun as usual. Sledfest was a blast, but cold. The Fawns are gearing up for winter camp. So we'll see you then. Friends Always. The Fearless Fawns. Scott, Sadie and Samantha Amick 2016 Forest Territory Scout

SUN TERRITORY REPORT: Ageyutsa Yetta Hey from the Ageyutsa! January sure went by fast, but we had a good time at all of the events. Induction Ceremony was great, and we were glad to welcome in all the new members as well as the new officers. We were also glad to turn over the trophy to the Water Sprites, The Outpost of the Year. Good luck with that at Winter Camp! Bowling was great, as was Sled Fest. We re looking forward to whoopin it up with the other parents at Mardi Gras, and are really excited about Winter Camp! Friends Always! The Sunflowers Bowling was a blast, we had a striking goodtime. Sledfest was a downhill experience. Looking forward to Winter Camp. Thee Lakota January sure was a busy Month. First, we had Induction, congratulation to the new members and the new Officers. Next up was Bowling, thank you Yorktown Lanes. Finally, we had Sledfest, luckily we had enough snow to hold the event. We hope that we have snow for Winter Camp or the girls will be sledding on mud. Come on Mother Nature, snow just for this weekend please, and then go away. Friends Always, Thee Lakota 2016 Sun Territory Scout Adam and Grace Albright
Water Territory Report: Water Sprites Yetta Hey! The Water Sprites enjoyed the January events starting with the bowling. All tried their best and were even were put to work during the second half of the program. All had fun and no one broke their toes with the bowling balls. Sled riding was good for the girls and rough on us Dad s bodies. A little more snow would help our aging bodies. It was all good. Thanks Scott for the lights and generator. Brooklyn police would like you to donate to their policemen ball dance for parking on the street. Looking forward to Mardi Gras and camp. Go Cavs! Amadahy Angels Official welcome to Mark Lefton and his daughter Miranda to the Angels family at Induction and congrats to the Water Sprites on their Outpost of the Year victory. The Angels showed up in force at Yorktown lanes, and I think in many cases, the girls actually bowled better than the dads. It must have been too cold for the Angels to spread their wings on the sledding hill, not much participation there, but we are hoping for some white stuff at Winter Camp which is right around the corner. Yetta Hay! Friends Always! Vito, Victoria, Elizabeth and Olivia Cimino 2016 Water Territory Scouts
Potawatomi (Poe-tah-wah)-toe-me That is how you say it. Yetta Hey! Happy New Year! Congratulations and Welcome to the newly inducted Dad's and Daughters of the Big Creek Frontier. We hope you enjoy the experience as much as we have. We would like to send a special welcome to our new members Riley and Jared. We look forward to the fun and excitement we will enjoy together in the coming years. Back at it again after a busy holiday season we enjoyed Induction at the Y. We liked watching the new outposts bring in their Patience and Obedience sticks. We tried to pick out the best set, but there were too many good ones, so we couldn't decide. Knocking down some pins at the alley was fun. The girls loved getting strikes. "How many times can you bounce the ball off the bumper before it reaches the pins?" One dad got it to bounce 6 times. The sad thing is he wasn't trying to do that at the time. Can you sled if there is no snow? Ask the Adventure Princesses they know. Even though the snow was limited, the fun was not. We even got donut holes and hot chocolate!!! The Potawatomi look forward to seeing everyone at Winter camp for sledding (with snow this time, hopefully) and making new memories. To all Dad's come to Mardi Gras. It will be a rocking good time!!!!!!!!!!!! Until next time... -Potawatomi The Fireflies The Fireflies had a great January. We kicked off things at the induction ceremony with our patience and obedience sticks. We then moved on to a heated competition of bumper bowling. The Fireflies are now ready for their first winter camp. Look for our glow in the winter night sky as we tackle all of the fun. We hope to see everyone there and all of the dads at Mardi Gras. Friends always! Soaring Phoenix Soaring Phoenix had a great time this month at Bowling and Sled Fest. We are looking forward to Winter Camp! The SPARKS 2016 is off to an eventful start with Induction, bowling and sled fest! That's a lot of patches to add to our vests! Thanks to everyone who made those events memorable. We are Looking forward to winter camp and what the rest of 2016 has to offer. Sparks out! PJ, Kaylee and Chloe Egnaczyk 2016 Fire Territory Scout
SKY TERRITORY Shooting Stars Shooting Stars We have a name!!!! Yetta Hey! Sky Territory Outpost #3 (at times referred to as Outpost #2 and Outpost #4 for those keeping track) has decided on our permanent name: We are the Shooting Stars! We held an outpost meeting on Sunday, January 24. The men met and got to know each other and the girls played and got to know each other a bit better. We had each girl put a name in a bowl and then we drew the winning name, Shooting Stars. We also picked our outpost color: Silver (the shiny glittery silver). Near the end of the meeting, we played the new Pie Face game, and all the men and girls took a turn getting whip cream in the face. There were many laughs. Everyone had a grand time getting to know one another better and we are looking forward to many years of making fun memories together. Friends always, Roger and Amelia Bundy Sky Territory, Shooting Stars Outpost Scout Cherokee Rainbows Yetta Hey! The Cherokee Rainbows are excited to get the Adventure Princess program kicked off! We have already enjoyed so many fun activities from Bowling to Sledding, and are looking forward to our first camp in February! Thanks, Friends Always Tom and Skyler Miller 2016 Sky Territory Scouts

Storyteller Story The Lesson of the Fire Tail Very long ago, a band of Indians was drying deer meat in the sun. They thought how wonderful it would be to have a small sun to dry the meat better and keep them warm when the big sun set in the evening and it got cold. Of course, they were only dreaming because such a thing would take power and magic, more than their most powerful magicman possessed. But, as the People talked, a tiny bird chirped loudly in a tree above them. The People saw the bird had a very bright red tail that flickered even while it was sitting still. The tribe s Storyteller could speak to animals and asked, "What do you want, little bird?" "Wise One, I do not want, but I bring what you wish for. My tail has a thing called Fire. It is hot like the sun and will comfort you when the winter wind blows, cook your meat, and give you light when the sun is gone." The Storyteller said, "Thank you, little bird. Bring me your fire so I can share it with the People." "It is not that easy," replied the bird. "Have the People gather here in the morning to receive fire. Tell each one to bring a dry branch with pine pitch on it." Then, the bird quickly flew away. The Storyteller told the People what the bird had said. He also said, "We should do what the bird says, for it will bring us much good fortune." So, when the sun rose again, all the People were gathered, each holding a pine pitch branch. A loud chirping in the tree above told them the bird had appeared. The bird talked to them in a voice that all could understand, "The first to catch up to me will be given my fire. But, only if that person does what is right, has patience, and does not lose courage. Follow me!" The bird flew off quickly with the People chasing behind. It flew over rough ground and thick forest, across streams and marshes. Many people could not keep the pace and gave up. They said, "It is too hard! Too fast! Too difficult! Too dangerous!" as they stopped their chase. Finally, a young brave got close to the bird and called, "Give me your fire, little bird, so I can get back to more important matters." "No," replied the bird, "You have no patience. You shall have no fire." Then, a second brave got close to the bird and called, "Give me your fire, little bird, so I will be the most powerful of the People. I have followed you far and have done no wrong." "No," replied the bird, "You think only of yourself and that is bad. You shall have no fire."
The bird looked back and saw that it was no longer being followed so it settled to a branch in a tree to rest. It saw a young girl on the ground nursing an old man that appeared very sick and cold. The bird said, "Bring a pine branch and I will give you Fire to keep that man warm and cook your food." The young girl said, "Thank you, little bird, but I must stay with my friend. I do not deserve a magic gift. I am only doing what is right, what my inner voice tells me needs to be done. And, I must stay with this sick man to help him for as long as needed." "You think first of others, so you deserve this gift which you can share with the People," explained the bird. "Bring a stick so you can help this man." So, the young girl quickly brought a branch and the bird lit it from its flickering tail. The young girl built a fire and kept her friend warm through the night. In the morning, he was better so they returned to the village and brought Fire with them. Since that time, the People have had Fire. Kevin and Kaitlyn Sexton 2016 Storytellers
