2 PAGE 2 V OLUME 23 ISSUE 3 FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT Greetings to All I hope it was a good summer for you. After that it was rain all summer, but the fairs went well and crops look great. After Newell, some things came to a head. What came out of the meeting were a lot of concerns about ARSBA on the registration numbers of sheep, the number of paid memberships, and the number of memberships in the U.S. We, as a group, will work on these things. I might be a little like Trump. I don t want to build a wall between us. It will work out! I hope you all have a great harvest. And, one last thing. If you have a concern, please call me. If we don t know about it, we can t fix it. Thank you, Scott NUMBERS FROM THE REGISTRY OFFICE AS OF 8/31/16 REGISTRATIONS: 1290 TRANSFERS: 509 ASSOCIATION DUES: 125 MEMBERSHIPS: 20 TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS!

3 VOLUME 23 ISSUE 3 Secretary s Notes Robbie G. Eckhoff Greetings from the office of the ARSBA! Wow, here we are already in September, with fall and winter quickly approaching has been a blur thus far. First and foremost, we need to take an opportunity to thank our hosts in July for putting on a wonderful National Show & Sale in Pipestone, Minnesota. We had an outstanding time and appreciate all of their hard work and dedication. Scott Crawford and his family did a great job in making the week work extremely smooth and easy. The 2017 version of the National Rambouillet Show & Sale will be in Gillette, Wyoming. We will have a different week than we normally do, but, we expect it to be a great one. We will be in Gillette from June 26- July 1, The National Jr. Show will be held on Wednesday, with the meetings on Thursday, followed by an 8:00 AM start time on Friday with the National Show, with the general meeting, awards banquet, and silent and live auction on Friday evening. We will conclude our week with the National Sale scheduled for 9:00 am on Saturday. We have never had an opportunity to go to Gillette in the past, and we are looking forward to taking the show and sale back to Wyoming. We had a really successful week in Pipestone, with the National Sale results reflecting the hard work of both the producers and buyers. The National Junior Show was once again an extremely nice show, with an unbelievable Yearling Ewe class. We need to take an opportunity to thank Mr. Justin Benz of Beulah, North Dakota for judging the National Junior Show and for all of the hard work and dedication he provides to our junior membership. In reviewing the meetings from Thursday afternoon in Pipestone, the Board of Directors discussed a registry amnesty program which you can read more about on page 4 of this PAGE 3 issue. This will allow some producers that might be a little behind on getting some sheep registered catch up on those registrations. The association is doing well from a financial perspective, with a positive net change in financial status over the last three years. We are an organization, however, we are also a business, and we must look at it in such a manner. Do to the fact that we have had some financial success, the group decided that would should work on putting together a publication that will include information about the breed as well as a breeders directory and other information as we move forward. This is something that has not been done for many years, and we look forward to having something done in the future that you as producers can utilize as another advertising and marketing tool. We are happy to say that the breeders directory is updated and on the website. In saying that, please remember that we can not publish on the website or in a directory a junior members name, address, phone, etc. without parental consent. If you would like your junior member s name and information put out there, please submit a formal request to me so that I can keep in on file. Unfortunately in today s society, we cannot be to protective of our young folks. Another item that has come up since we had the meetings in Pipestone in the ability to pay for registrations, transfers, etc. via credit card. You may now pay the registry office in Kansas via credit card. Please remember, you will have a surcharge added to your bill for utilizing the credit card option, however, it does give you as a member more flexibility in getting paperwork expedited, etc. In order for you to have your entries in the 2017 National Show & Sale catalog, they must be in my hands by May 1, NO EXCEPTIONS! As time goes on we are getting more tardy in getting those entries in, and we need to get those catalogs done and out to our prospective buyers, and that date is what works best to meet our goals. We did have some changes in leadership within the organization, with Jody Ketterling of Gillette, Wyoming being elected as director for District 3. District 4 Director is now Rod Wille of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Sam Jackson of Lubbock, Texas will assume the role as Director for District 6. These district positions all expire in In closing, I want to thank all of you for your continued support and dedication. Many of you have different goals in mind, but remember, to have success, YOU MUST WORK AS A TEAM! A team will not be successful if they are not all working for the same common goal. Bad teams work independently. Great teams work together and become CHAMPIONS! I encourage all of you to work hard in continuing to promote and produce REGISTERED RAMBOUILLET SHEEP!
