1 Judith Basin County 4-H News May 2018 Dates to Remember: Club Meetings Geyser Lucky Clovers: May 6 4:00pm Stanford Scramblers: May 7 5:00pm Utica Sapphires: May 8 6:30pm QUALITY ASSURANCE For those of you that need quality assurance class this year you will need to head for Lewistown. Lewistown will have classes at the Sheriff s Complex in May. Be sure to put these dates down and attend one of them. May 7, 2018 at 5:30pm or May 12, 2018 at 10:00am or May 15, 2018 at 5:30pm. RUSSELL COUNTRY CLASSIC The RCC will take place at the Judith Basin County Fairgrounds in Stanford, MT on June 3, Check in will be from 8-10:00am. AM/HIP Height at 10:00am and show starts at 12:00 noon. Please fill out the entry form and send with fee by May 28th to avoid a $10 late fee. FAIR BOOK COVER CONTEST It was a tough decision on the contest this year! All our entries were nicely done. In the end we had to choose one only. This year s winner is Kaitlyn Boberg. Kaitlyn will receive a $40 gift card to North 40. Congrats to you Kaitlyn! Thank you to everyone who submitted a picture. Get ready for next year. 3 4-H SENIOR CAMP I hope everyone was able to sign up for Senior Camp at Camp Maiden outside of Lewistown, MT. Day one will start at 5:00pm and run till 11:00am on the last day. The dates are May 31 thru June 2, Have a great time! TWEEN TRIP Did you get your registration in for the Tween Trip? Don t miss this great opportunity. The dates are June 12 thru June 14, Registration deadline is June 1, 2018 and Horsemanship Patterns. There will also be great info on getting your horse ready for the horse show! There is not a fee for these clinics. All donations to help cover the arena and cattle expenses are greatly appreciated. Call Erlonna at with any questions KIRK STEIRWALT CLINIC Here s a great opportunity for hands on with getting your fair animals and yourselves ready for this years fair season. The clinic will take place at the Dawson County Fairgrounds in Glendive, MT. The clinic will run June 8, 9, 10, This is a limited clinic size so get your registrations in early! HORSE CLINICS Here are the June 4-H Horse Project Clinics at Erickson s Arena (Hobson). Please contact the Extension Office by June 1, 2018 to sign up. Ranch Horse Practice Mondays 6 pm-9 pm June 4, 11, 18, 25! Practice will focus on Ranch Horse Pattern, Roping, and Sorting Practice. Scott Grosskopf Ranch Roping Clinic Saturday June 16, 8 am-noon Levels 1 and 2, 1-5 pm Levels 3 and 4. This clinic will focus on roping skills depending on level and getting ready for the July/August Competitions. Levels 3 and 4 will be on live cattle in the afternoon. STANFORD SCRAMBLERS The Scramblers club will meet May 7, 2018 at 5pm for highway clean up. Dress for cleaning and being outside! UTICA SAPPHIRES The Sapphire club will be doing cleanup of highway and the little park. A final date hasn t been set as yet. Regular club meeting will be May 8, Horsemanship Clinic ---Friday June 8, 8am-5pm with Justin Warneke Horsemanship Clinic Levels 3-7. Friday June 15, 8am noon Level pm Level 2 with Justin Warneke Horsemanship. Justin is a trainer who resides near Great Falls and has shown extensively. This is a great opportunity to improve your horsemanship! Fair Showmanship, Trail, and Level Pattern Practice Friday June 22, 9 am-4 pm. Older 4-H members from the Silver Spurs 4-H Club will be helping with Showmanship, Trail, Riding an Equitation Class,

4 406 SHOWDOWN If you are hoping to attend the Huntley Eagles 4-H Club Prospect Show we now have dates and entry registration. The name has changes but it will still be a great show. The 406 Showdown is open to all Montana 4-H and FFA members. The show takes place Saturday June 9, 2018 at the Big Horn County Fairgrounds in Hardin, MT. MONTANA STATE FAIR Cascade County 4-H would like to have more clubs enter this year s fair, July 27 August 4, Enter the 4- H Club booth decorating contest. 1st place: $100, 2nd place: $75, 3rd place: $50. Entry forms must be submitted by June 29, For more information contact your club leader or the J. B. County Extension Office, ext. 104 or 105. SHEEP FOR SALE Here s a chance for Suffolk and Suffolk Hamp cross sheep. There are five ewes and one ram. They range from 2-4 years of age. The sheep are 4-H and are out of the Terri Jo Anderson flock. For more information call Joel Graves GREAT NEED FOR HOSTING FAMILIES We still have a great need for hosting families. Please take the time to consider this awarding experience. This is a great opportunity for everyone involved. There is so much we can learn from each other and it s always fun. JUDGING INVITATIONAL Sanders County will be hosting a judging invitational on Saturday, June 30th at the County Fairgrounds in Plains, MT. Pre-registration due Friday, June 22nd. LAMB & GOAT WEIGH-IN Weigh-in is approaching quickly. Talk with your club leaders to find out what they have scheduled. Take some time this year and do something nice for your mom. Do an extra chore without being asked or ask if there is something you could help her with. Spend some time with her.
