4 A Message from the General Manager Daniel L. LaBrado Friends of the District As we enter our 50th year, with a goal of providing you with well maintained parks and a variety of recreational programs for all ages, we have determined that s not enough. So, staff has decided to put on the biggest birthday party at our largest park, all for you. Starting Friday night August 3rd and continuing on Saturday, August 4th you are invited to join in the games, enjoy the variety of food, check out the vendors, listen to the music, and if your energy holds out, finish with a movie in the park. I can guarantee you it will be a fun day for all ages. Mark your calendar and join us at Pleasant Valley Fields for our 50th Anniversary Celebration Event. As the District grows with more park acreage and programs, staff and the Board of Directors have determined that the District needs a Strategic Plan. The plan will identify a course of direction for the next five years. Development of the plan will require your input. We will facilitate at least two community meetings designed to gather your input on facilities, parks, and programs for the future. Every department in the District will be involved in the process, which is designed to establish our mission and vision statements as well as the objectives to achieve our goals. If you cannot attend the community meetings, I strongly encourage you to contact one of our Board members to provide your input and comments on the future of the District. Lastly, when you have an opportunity, visit Mission Oaks Park to view the new playground equipment. Mission Oaks is the third playground to be renovated with new surfacing and new equipment. Based on the success of the playgrounds at the Community Center and Bob Kildee Community Park, we anticipate that the playground at Mission Oaks will be innovative and challenging. The new playground will feature a new type of sand, which I think kids will enjoy. Let us know what you think.
