The pep rally had to be moved inside this year - but the fun and excitement was still prevalent. The crowning of the king and queen had to be delayed a bit because of the gentle showers!!!! The festivities continued on into the night with the Homecoming dance. The Homecoming royalty included Freshmen Jaiden Papik and Jackson Beethe; Sophomores Anna Sluka and Max Zeleny; and Juniors Josie Kresak and Trever Zelenka. The Duke and Duchess were Alexis Uldrich and Eric Olsen; Prince and Princess were Hannah Horne and Seth Maxson; King and Queen were Hannah Beethe and Joey Bartu. 5 November NEWS November.a time to be thankful and a time to reflect.. Anyone that knows me, knows that I am somewhat of a quote fanatic. I am always on the lookout for thought provoking words of wisdom to share with others. Every weekday morning at 7:00am, I send out a quote to the staff in hopes of starting their day off with a little motivation, a good chuckle, or possibly even some self-reflection. One quote I found years ago by Todd Whitaker has really stuck with me. It goes something like this: The best thing about being a teacher is that it matters. The hardest thing about being a teaching is that it matters everyday. I think about that quote on a daily basis. Whether I m having a stern discussion about a behavior incident, putting a band aid on a scraped knee, lecturing about a poor grade report, or giving out a high five for a job well done, I m constantly aware of the impact I am having on each student during each encounter. There is no greater honor than to know that as educators what we do everyday impacts the lives of our students. It is my sincere hope that as students look back on their education at Exeter-Milligan, they feel as though their experiences made a positive impact on their lives. I know the list of students who have positively affected my life grows longer each and every year. Mrs. Kroll

6 VIEW FROM THE FRONT OFFICE Ever have one of those times when you finally get something accomplished, and then, at the last minute, you decide to change it? Well, this article is one of those times for me. Karla and I attended the Garth Brooks concert on Sunday night and during the concert, I had one of those moments. Listening to the music and being part of the crowd set my mind racing and now, a new direction for this month s article. Jackie will look at me, shake her head, but won t be surprised. Sometimes, everyone can look at me and say, Squirrel! As I said, Karla and I were just a couple of the almost 68,000 fans who took a few hours of their time to attend the Garth Brooks concert. We had the opportunity to see him in Omaha a couple of years ago and he still doesn t disappoint. He can still get around for a 55 year old - heck, I was complaining my legs were stiff and sore and the only physical thing I did on Saturday was clean out one of the mini-vans. That s a whole different article Garth s breakthrough success happened about the same time the current Sheffield family was established. Karla has been a fan from day one while I was a little leary of country music. My heart then, and now, is with 80 s Hair Bands, but after living in North Central NE for six years, I have grown to appreciate country music. When I was growing up, my best friend s parents were HUGE old time country fans and to this day, I can hear the twang of Conway Twitty, However, I never learned to appreciate that style of music. At the concert, as each old song was sung (not only by Garth, but all 12,000 in attendance), Karla clapped along and smiled. Honestly, I haven t seen her so happy. As you may know, we are now empty nesters, so maybe listening to all of her old favorites brought back some wonderful memories of when our kids were young. It does seem just like yesterday

7 What amazes me the most about this concert was how all of us, not just the 12,000 at Sunday night s show, but all 68,000 over the 5 shows, came together for one reason - to listen to the music! For some, it was a chance to finally fulfill that lifelong dream to see Garth in person or for others to reminisce about the days of old. For whatever reason, we all clapped, sang, and even danced - together - not worrying where each other was from or what political affiliation they were. We were all there to celebrate the music. As I sang along to the music, I thought to myself, If only we could ALWAYS get along like this To go along with this theme, starting the 2018 season, Exeter-Milligan and Friend will co-op 8-man high school football. This was not an easy decision to make, but everyone involved believed this was in the best interests for all. This past season, we battled injuries and there were times we only had 8 to 9 student-athletes available. For the past four years, the schools have had a combined junior high football team, and overall this agreement has worked well. We look forward to this new venture and hope all will support this opportunity for our student-athletes. As we begin the stretch into the holiday season (Thanksgiving is just around the corner) keep this thought in your mind. No matter where we come from or where we re going, we all must work together to make the world a better place. It is up to each and everyone of us to provide a safe, respectful, and responsible environment. We have the opportunity to make an impact - let s make sure it is a positive one.
