2 Welcome to the 2007 Monroe Fastpitch Season This is my 11 th year as varsity head coach and the program continues to get better each season. This is largely due to a dedicated and committed group of coaches, athletes and parents. As a coach you touch peoples lives beginning with your players and extending to their families, along with administrators, the media and others. I would like to thank my loving wife Barb of 25 years, for her support and understanding and I would like to recognize an outstanding coaching staff of Mike Birch, Mark Dalbeck, Misti Berg and Kent Stanley, who all have a real passion for the game of fastpitch. As coaches, we must learn to cherish our relationships with one another and pride ourselves on our ability to make an impact in the maturation and development of young people. It is time to enjoy each moment, whether it be at the C team, Junior Varsity or the Varsity level. Make the big time where you are the big time is not a place; it s the state of your heart. It s not something you get; it s something you become. - Frosty Westering Curt Eskeback Monroe High School The hardest thing to do in softball is hit a round ball with a round bat, squarely.." - Ted Williams - 2

4 2006 Season Review The 2006 Bearcat fastpitch team finished their regular season with a 19-1 record and the Wesco North Championship. After losing a close first game to Everett at the district playoffs, the Bearcats went on to win the next two against Jackson and Edmonds-Woodway to earn 3rd place in the Wesco division and a trip to the State tournament. After the Bearcats lost their first round matchup against Capitol, 3-1, they went on to beat Skyview in 9 innings 5-4. In the third game of the day against Stadium, the Bearcats gave up a 1 run lead in the top of the 7th that would hold, ending their season with an impressive 23-4 record. 5 2007 Season Outlook After last season s successes, the Bearcat softball team is looking to continue building a strong program. The absence of last year s seniors (Ashly Forsberg, Jaime Holmes, Brittany Bury and Alexa Degel) will leave some key positions to fill. With 8 returning starters, the Bearcats will be adding 3 Juniors and 1 Sophomore to complete a Varsity roster. With the success of the JV team last year and a talented Freshman class coming in, the Bearcats will have a great opportunity this year to add key position players and speed to its roster throughout the season that will have an immediate impact. The Wesco North division will take on a new look this year with the addition of Everett High School (3A), the absence of Mt Vernon and Arlington moving down to 3A. The Bearcats will continue to utilize the game plan that worked so well for them last year. Speed from the left side combined with contact and power will represent a strong dynamic offense. Solid defense, strong pitching, depth, talent and experience at all positions will once again make the Bearcats a tough opponent among the traditional Wesco North powerhouses. The goals for 2007 are the same as always, return to Districts and move on to the State tournament to play for the State Championship. 5
