Skills emphasized include: Front/back floats, kicking, breath control and safety. Parent Participation. Not-So-Scary Swimming Beginner 11-11:30am Levels I III ( 4-12) Intermediate 11:30am-Noon A gentle introduction program for children fearful of water activities. Class features open discovery time, games & movement skills to provide water orientation, fun and improved comfort in water. (Parent/Adult Guardian welcome not required.) Level V - 6-6:40pm 4:30-5:10pm 10:30-11:10am Advanced Swimmer 11:15-11:55am ( 6-12 passed Level IV) Skills taught include: Surface dives, long shallow dive, treading water, freestyle 50 yards, backstroke 50 yards, breaststroke 25 yards, sidestroke 25 yards, butterfly 25 yards, approach stroke 25 yards, breaststroke and sidestroke turns, flip turn for freestyle, pike and tuck surface dives, safety and building endurance. Level VI - 6-6:40pm 4:30-5:10pm 11:15-11:55am Competitive Swimmer ( 6-12 passed Level V) Skills taught include: Swimming continuously for 500 yards, freestyle 100 yards, backstroke 100 yards, breaststroke 50 yards, elementary backstroke 50 yards, sidestroke 50 yards, butterfly 50 yards, choice 100 yards. Improve and refine the four competitive swim strokes butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Starts and turns will also be practiced. Adult/Teen 9:45-10:25am Beginning Swimmer ( 13 & up) Designed for teens and adults who may not be comfortable in the water with minimal or no swimming experience. This class takes a hands-on approach to help students explore the joys of swimming. Communicate specific needs and goals with the instructor. Adult/Teen 9-9:40am Swimming Refinement ( 13 & up) Designed for teens and adults who want to perfect their strokes and who possess some prior formal swimming knowledge. The classes below include non-competitive classes designed to be taken numerous times. Ballet Classes * No classes MAR Parent-Tot Creative Movement This class is designed for parents and children to interact together through dance. Parents must attend class with their child(ren). Mommies & Daddies are welcome! Creative Movement This class is for 3-4 year olds to take independently. Class will increase body awareness, build confidence and develop enjoyment for dance. Class is designed to be taken numerous times. Pre-Ballet Dancers will be introduced to basic ballet positions, steps and ballet vocabulary while working on coordination and development of dance. Dancers will work on progressions across the floor and in the center. Dance technique improves as class is repeated. Class is designed to be taken numerous times. Ballet I Explore the fundamentals of ballet technique and terminology. Develop poise, coordination and self-confidence while learning ballet positions, posture and combinations. These classes explore a variety of different styles and approaches to dance to make a fun and energetic class that has a little something for everyone! All dance classes listed below meet at Ridge Recreation Center. The classes below include non-competitive classes designed to be taken numerous times. Ballet Classes * No classes MAR Tap & Ballet Combo The dance class is designed to teach the fundamentals of dance in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. This class gives little dancers the overall introduction they need to tap and ballet. Comfortable clothing or leotard and tights are recommended for this class. Tap shoes are required. Ballet shoes are suggested. Intro to Hip Hop Dance High energy class with new routines taught each session. Last day of class includes an informal performance for family. Wear comfortable or workout clothing. Hip Hop Dance This popular form of dance will teach the latest dance moves! Make new friends while learning a different dance routine each session. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that allow for easy movement. NO JEANS PLEASE. Dance shoes or barefoot is preferred. This class is designed to be taken multiple times. Adult Dance! Learn the building blocks of dance including lyrical, jazz, hip-hop, ballet.
