Family Fun Night is Saturday, Aug. 26 Federation will host a Family Fun Night on Saturday, August 26 from 5 p.m.to 7 p.m. at the Coles County Fairgrounds. This fun night will be a carnival theme complete with cotton candy, hot dogs, inflatables and games. We are asking each club to help with a carnival game. Clubs would be responsible for suppling the items needed for the game. Please choose from the following list, or come up with your own game, and let Jenny know what game your club would like to do. With your club's help, we can make this
2 event a success! Bean bag toss Balloon pop Toilet paper toss Football toss Go fish Feed the pig Cake walk Face painting Ping pong toss Families are asked to bring their own drinks. If you have quesitons, please contact Jenny at the office, Local 4-H news A few State Fair reminders Coles County 4-H delegates to the Illinois State Fair will receive a packet in the mail in early August, which will have their exhibit tag and important information about judging day at State Fair. Participants must take their own projects to State Fair. Coles County judging at State Fair is Thursday, August 10. All general project judging will take place in the Orr Building. Members may drop off their projects between 8-9:30 a.m. All projects will remain on display until 3:30 p.m. or when judging is complete, whichever is later. If you need to head home earlier than that, you must make arrangements with another family to pick up your project for you. Gate passes: A limited number of gate passes are available to general project 4-H exhibitors and their families. These passes must be purchased at the Extension office. There is no set date yet as to when these passes will be available for purchase, but it should be sometime at the end of July or beginning of August. Passes will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis until they are gone. These passes are offered to general project 4-H families at a discounted rate. Home and Family Show champions, delegates announced Coles County 4-H'ers showed off their foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, food decorating and interior design projects at the annual Home and Family Show held at Cross County Mall in Mattoon on Tuesday, July 11. Don't forget your thank-yous! By the time this newsletter reaches you, our 4-H livestock shows will be underway at the 2017 Coles County Fair. It's a busy time of year, and we know you have lots of stuff going on! When you get back home from the fair, but before the back-to-school rush starts, be sure to take a few minutes to write a thank-you note to the donors of the trophies/plaques and those businesses that help support your participation in the 4-H program. Without their generosity, many of these awards would not be possible - so let's all show them how much we appreciate their support. State 4-H news See the TOTAL solar eclipse with 4-H Illinois 4-H, in cooperation with the Marion Miners Baseball Team, is hosting a family-friendly place to watch the TOTAL Solar Eclipse on Aug. 21 in the location that will experience the GREATEST length of darkness in the country SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. The Eclipse is the hottest thing to hit Southern Illinois all year, and Illinois 4-H will be hosting thousands of youth and their families to the Miners' Baseball Field in Marion to watch it. For just $8, you ll gain admission to the field, access to all the educational activities 4-H is offering, and a pair of 4-H Eclipse glasses you ll need to safely watch the eclipse. Parking is $5/car; $10/bus. Food will be available on site. No alcohol will be allowed at the event. For $12, you can order a commemorative 4-H Eclipse t-shirt. Fly a drone (YES!), see a large telescope, watch videos from astronauts, do cool hands-on science experiments, play laser tag and other fun games. The gates open at 10 a.m. The eclipse should happen about 2:20 p.m. Activities wrap up by 3 p.m. Learn more and order go.illinois.edu/4heclipse. Everybody loves a road trip September 23, University of Illinois Campus Come hang out with 4-H members from across the state in a NEW event to kick off the new year. Save September 23 and plan to arrive by 10 a.m. on the University of Illinois campus. Get an inside look at U of I. Discover new things you can do in 4-H.
6 Start your adventure today! $10 includes lunch, t-shirt goodie bag. Road Trip is open to 4-H members age Tell your friends and go road trippin with a few hundred of 4-H members around the state. Registration opens July go.illinois.edu/4hroadtrip. Calling all 4-H volunteer leaders If you re a leader and will be at the Illinois State Fair, be sure to stop by the Volunteer Booth in the Orr Building early in the day. We have a special 4-H Leader Button for you to wear while you re at the fair. We are proud of you and want everyone at the fair to know how special you are! Volunteers celebrating 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, and more years of service will be recognized during a short Clover Celebration beginning at 3 p.m. each day on the stage of the Orr Building.
