1 The Newsletter of Ariah Park Central School Week 9A Term 1 Monday, 26 th March 2018 PSSA Netball NSW School Cup Was great to see our students on TV again promoting our "Barking Dog " program last Friday evening. 9 News Riverina came out to our school early last week and filmed the story. Our students did a great job working their dogs and the way they interacted with the news team was fabulous. The segment can be seen on the 9 News Riverina Facebook page for those who missed it. Tomorrow we will be holding our Easter Church Service with the Generocity Church period 2. School breaks up this Friday for the Easter break and returns back to school on Tuesday next week. I am sure we will all get our fill of chocolate over the break. For those traveling over the weekend please be safe and take care. All our staff will be updating their CPR and Anaphylaxis training tomorrow afternoon at school and Miss Williams will be taking our Ag students on a Piggery Excursion to Beckom later in the week. Stalls at the Fete If you have a stall of any type and you would like to sell your items at the fete please let Miss Pollard know on Some of our previous stalls have included Tupperware, Leah Maxwell and her crafts, Alicia Leiper and her jewellery. These stalls have been a great success and have added greatly to our fete. All stalls welcome. Class Fete News Kindergarten Kinder students will be selling their artworks this year at the Fete. You are invited to purchase your children/grandchildren s artworks on the day. Miss James APCS Fete Cake Stall The ever popular cake stall will once again be at the APCS Fete. Donations of home baked Year 1 and 2 Year 1 and 2 will be selling Pesca Jars at the fete. Could parents of these students please send in several filled jars (with some sort of lid) containing one or a mixture of the following: lollies, toys, balloons, water balloons, stickers, stationery etc Ms Studholme

3 Year 3/4 Year 3/4 are running a game. Students are asked to bring small, inexpensive items to use for prizes. Prizes may include lollies, chocolates, stickers, bouncy balls but need to fit inside a plastic cup. This is very much appreciated. 4 Permission Notes This term has been very busy, with a lot of sport, excursions and extra-curricular activities on for our students. Unfortunately, with the quick turnaround we are occasionally pushed for time when receiving completed permission notes. It is essential for all student who wish to represent or attend activities outside of school to have a full completed permission slip returned prior to attending the event. If Parents and Caregivers can please ensure notes are returned in sufficient time prior to the event, we will be able to guarantee students do not miss out and are able to take all opportunities presented to them. This will be in the school holidays on Wednesday 25 th April, We would like to form a contingent of students and teachers to participate in the march. 6 Changes to the Year 9 NAPLAN Minimum Standard Week 10 Stage 4 Year 8 Food Tech, English, Visual Art, Music Stage 5 Visual Design, Math, PDHPE, PDM, Music Week 10 Stage 4 Math, PDHPE Stage 5 English, Work Education Sport News Last week was another massive week for APCS students and sport. We started the week with 12 girls trailing for the Coolamon-Ardlethan zone PSSA Netball team. The following girls travelled to Ganmain to play; Sophie Dart, Lucy Edis, Elsie Furphy, Josie Heath, Georgia McCormack, Charlotte Bell, Gabby Fairman, Sophie Maxwell, Kate O Dwyer, Sarah Speirs, Summa Watts and Bethany Webb. All of the girls played well, with a majority being selected into the possible and probable side. The girls should be proud of their efforts especially when considering the large number of girls who trialled.

7 On Thursday, the Primary Australian Football Eastern Team Trials were held in Coolamon. We had Thomas Writer, Angus Pursehouse and William Fairman from APCS in the Coolamon-Ardlethan side. The weather conditions on Thursday were not favourable to Football at all. Despite this, all of the boys put in their best effort and did themselves proud against some much bigger opponents. Miss Horne This year Sophie Dart, Charlotte Bell and Gabby Fairman were successful in being elected for the Coolamon-Ardlethan PSSA zone Netball Team. There was no rest for these girls who had a quick turnaround and played on Thursday in the Griffith Netball Cup. The Coolamon-Ardlethan team played 6 games and were undefeated in all of these games. This is a huge achievement for a team who had only been selected on Monday! Well done girls and we look forward to hearing of more success in your main line of competition. (Team photo front page) On Wednesday we had Shelby Worland and Alyssa Denyer represent APCS in the RAP Open girls basketball side. There is a full report from Ms Denham attached below. Jack McCormack also attended this event as a referee. Jack went above and beyond what was expected of him and ended up umpiring most games throughout the day. I would like to thank and commend Jack on his maturity and for volunteering his time to help out with this event.

8 RAP Open Girls Basketball Our first game was against Temora who got off to a great start to have a big lead at half time In the second half we were much more competitive and the second half score was Unfortunately in the end we went down Our second game was against Griffith and unfortunately we lost Olivia who had to leave. This was a close game throughout the whole match with the score being tied several times throughout the game. Our girls were up by 3 with 2mins to go and showed great composure to shut the game down and prevent Griffith from scoring. We won this game Our last game was against Narrandera we got off to a good start however Narrandera kept clawing us back. In the last quarter the score was very close and it came down to the last few seconds with the pressure on everyone! Our girls worked the ball down the court with 8 secs to go and the score tied and got a shot at the basket but unfortunately we didn t get it to drop in the basket. The girls had the option to play 5 mins extra time to decide a clear winner but decided not too and it finished as a draw. All the girls played really well as a team both in attack and defence in all three games. Our newbies Paige and Jane improved with every quarter and were great in defence hassling the opposition and chasing every ball down. They definitely got my most improved award. Shelby, Natassia and Olivia showed great leadership steering the girls around the court and controlling the speed of play. Shelby and Natassia showed great composure when the scores were close thinking very strategically. Charlotte was vital in defence and attack using her height to take our rebounds and keeping possession. Alyssa and Nicola were great in attack and defence in the point guard position and did everything that was asked of them all day. A huge thank you to Jack McCormack APCS for umpiring on the day. He was complemented by the organiser for his excellent umpiring and willingness to help her out and being happy to do whatever was asked of him. Well done Jack. 9 Cross Country Next week on Friday the 6 th of April, APCS will be running our annual Cross Country event. This year we are trailing a new approach to this event. We aim to have the carnival run earlier in the day, in order to allow students adequate time to compete and avoid the heat of the day. The details below are the proposed timelines for the day. 9:00 Buses arrive and roll marking under COLA. 9:10-9:20 Students walk to Golf Course. 9:30- Student walk the cross country course. 10:00-10:30 Recess 10:30 Students marshalled and issued event details. 10:45 Start of the cross country event. 12:00-12:30 Completion of Cross Country. 12:30 Walk back to school. 12:45 presentation of awards. Lunch as per usual times. Period 5 Values. Period 6 Classes.

15 Well the football season is almost upon us!! So we need to begin thinking about registering children for the upcoming Auskick season. Auskick is a great way for children aged between 5 and 10 years to learn skills. Our fees for 2018 $80. You are able to use the Active Kids voucher for Auskick (that is for children enrolled at school aged 4.5 years to 18) Very simple to obtain your voucher: go to Service NSW and follow the prompts for the Active Kids Voucher. If you don't know about this scheme run but the NSW Government please feel free to contact Kristen on This year Auskick will begin on the first Friday of Term 2 which is Friday 4th May from 4-5pm. It will go for about 10 weeks (give or take a few with wet/cold miserable days!!) Phil will be coaching the children again this year but he will also need assistance from parents/carers. Registration needs to be completed with payment online this year. Go to and look up Ariah Park. Please check around your property & your neighbours for those old unwanted batteries. Once you have them, give Phil Davey a call on to arrange delivery.
