1 CHEAM COMMON JUNIOR ACADEMY A member of the LEO Academy Trust Kingsmead Avenue, Worcester Park. KT4 8UT Tel.: (020) office@cheamcommon.org.uk FRIDAY 8 TH JUNE Executive Headteacher: Mr P. Hedger BA (Hons) AKC NPQH Year 4 Adventures at High Ashurst and Box Hill By Boris & Emma, 4M Year 4 had an incredible time at High Ashurst just before half term. Our adventure started with a long walk, up and over Box Hill, to the centre. We played lots of exciting games along the way before eventually arriving at High Ashurst. As soon as we got there, we started our first activity. There are lots of different activity groups, so that every-one gets to do everything. One of the activities is the amazing experience of the 30 feet climbing wall. As an extra bonus, you might get to have a go at abseiling down a small wall. Also there is an once-in-a-lifetime experience of the High-ropes, three activities on different sized and angled logs. You would get to do all three activities, varying your height, balance and speed. We also got the chance to stay in High Ashurst s luxurious cabins or the very spacious teepees, during our three days and two nights away from home. The luxurious and spacious cabins containing two bunk-beds and an optional camp-bed. It also has an en-suite bathroom with showers. In the main room, there is a huge sofa, opposite a television. The teepees are outside, in a big field. They can sleep up to 12 people, and if you are in them, you get to do extra activities in the evening around a campfire. Each morning, we had the choice of breakfast that you can help yourself to, such as coco-pops or a Full English breakfast. On the final day, we took part in some high adventures on the High Ropes Course. One activity on high ropes was the Leap of Faith. We had to climb up high to reach a platform and then jump out towards a dangling trapeze! Hopefully you managed to jump and hold the bar, before the instructors lowered you to the ground using the safety ropes. After lunch, it was time to head back to school and then on to home. We all had so much fun at High Ashurst and will never forget this brilliant trip. It was AMAZING! Thank you so much to all of the Year 4 teachers for organising a great residential trip for us. Parents and children can now view lots of photographs from the trip on our Twitter news feed at:

5 Cheam Common is Mad about Maths! This week Money Problems Battle of the Books Weekly Review Each week we put a brief synopsis of one of our Battle of the Books in the newsletter from a year group s book list. This week s book is taken from the Year 4 book list and is Dying to be Famous by Tanya Landman. Poppy Fields and best friend Graham are astonished to be given parts in a musical production of The Wizard of Oz. Even more astonishing is the series of murders that occurs at the theatre, targeting the leading lady. When Poppy and Graham investigate, little do they know that they are next on the murderer s list An exciting book that you will not want to put down! What do you think will happen to Poppy and Graham? Will they solve the mystery? Please remember to fill in a book review and get your teacher to stamp your book mark! Battle of the Books reading lists are available on from the curriculum section of our website: Science Spotted! Our weekly feature on how to tackle Science at home! This week World Cup Science With the World Cup just days away, Year 3 have designed and carried out an investigation about whether a fully inflated football will travel further than a partially deflated football. They discussed the following questions that were posed: Is a fully inflated ball too bouncy? How much air should you pump into a ball before a game? What should be kept the same? After discussing their ideas, they planned and carried out their investigation. What do you think? Will a fully inflated football travel further than a deflated football? Why? This Photo by
