1 CHEAM COMMON JUNIOR ACADEMY A member of the LEO Academy Trust Kingsmead Avenue,Worcester Park. KT4 8UT Tel.: (020) office@cheamcommon.org.uk FRIDAY 23 RD FEBRUARY Executive Headteacher: Mr P. Hedger BA (Hons) AKC NPQH Young Voices Our Amazing Choir Star at the O2 Arena! By Charlotte Maguire & Zoe Pullen On Friday 2 February, our Cheam Common Junior Choir were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to take part in the Young Voices Celebration Concert at the O2 Arena in London. We were all very grateful to be given this amazing experience as it was a once in a lifetime occasion. We all really enjoyed our thrilling night and are really appreciative of Miss Turner for teaching us everything we needed to know. Also thank you to Mr Hedger, Miss Gunner and Mr Maillet for looking after us that day. First, the choir got on a coach and drove to the O2. As we got there at about half past one, we had our lunch straight away. After 30 minutes, we were in the O2 and having our rehearsal. We couldn't believe how many children there were (over 8000!) and how high up we were sitting! Something that excited us during the rehearsal was a group of beat boxers that came and sang a song called 'Kyrie Eleison' with us. There were so many other songs that we sang too, even songs in different languages and we had so many dance moves to do too! We were introduced to a crazy man called Andy who did funny things on stage! Even though he was crazy, he was very talented! Once we had finished rehearsals, we had our tea and went back to the arena for the real thing. Slowly, the parents started filling in. At first, we could not see the Cheam Common parents but eventually we spotted them waving at us! When everyone was in the O2, the concert started and we began singing all of the songs, the pop medley being our choir's favourite. We also watched a group of awesome dancers and we tried to join in too! Most of us by the end were extremely tired but happy to know that our mums and dads were proud of us and we had put on the performance of a lifetime!

3 Cheam Common is Mad about Maths! This week Fractions of Amounts Battle of the Books Weekly Review Each week we put a brief synopsis of one of our Battle of the Books in the newsletter from a year group s book list. This week s book is one of the new titles from the Year 4 book list and is Trust me, I m a Troublemaker by Pete Johnson. Archie is a very mature child - some would say far too mature! Having grown up with his gran, he seems to have acquired some adult ways - and the kids at his new school find them unbearable. Especially Miranda - the class troublemaker. At first she absolutely can't stand Archie but then she starts to see him as a bit of a project- could she really make Archie into a Troublemaker Extraordinaire? Their unlikely friendship really gets going when Archie needs help to scare off his dad's new girlfriend... Remember to fill in a book review once you have read a book so that your teacher can stamp your bookmark. Our weekly feature on how to tackle Science at home! This week Opposites Attract Year 3 have been investigating whether materials are magnetic. The can explain the difference between a magnetic and a non-magnetic material. Can you name some uses of magnets? Are different magnets equally strong? Are bigger magnets stronger than smaller magnets? Which materials can a magnetic force pass through? How do magnets behave towards each other?
