Blue Balls beat their younger selves the 3 Kicks Mafia 1-0, in a very competitive game of kickball. Tha Mafia had a very competive day beating Rusty trombones 2-1 in the thw Quarter Finals, and Balls Deep 1-0 in the Semifinals. The Deep also had a competive day. They faced the rebranded westbank Inside this addition of the GMOT: Good Bye Decker...Page 2 Thank you umps...page 3 All Star Team. Page 4 Flip Cup Bracket......Page 8 infused Kick in a Box, formerly known as the Canninballs in a quarter final game. The Deep squeaked by with a 2-1 win. Special thanks needs to go to all that worked hard to make Saturday a success. This especially needs to go out to all the people who volunteered for the thankless job of umpiring during the playoffs. 2 SEASON 5, EDITION 9 Page 2 Farewell to the Commish! Dear Kickballers, In the Fall of 2006, over an Ice Cold beer at Miss Mae s an Evil plot was hatched. Two college friends decided that the Post Katrina social scene was a little too dull. Something had to be done. We needed to start something so outlandish and immature that it would destroy Friday work productivity and lead to a rise in the sales of coffee and aspirin. We would bring WAKA Kickball to New Orleans. And New Orleans hasn t been the same since. The monster started slowly with the first season in the Spring of 2007 at F&M s. The original eight were Ike, Johnny, Blue Balls, the Deep, LTS, Mine s R Bigger, Buffalos, and the Kickballaz. Oh if the walls of F&M s could talk. A simpler time when The Mouth was just Kelly, Hardcore was just some old guy, Asian Teddy was only Teddy, and Blue Balls was well still Blue Balls. And then we started to grow! The season at Madigan s saw us swell to 12 teams adding greats like Chuck, Swampstains, Alcoballics, Bottom of the 5 th, Rusty Trombones, Kicking It old school, and Rochambeaux. Who could forget the passion, the glory, the ass quarters, and for the 1 st time ever organized Flip Cup. Richard s Alkies showed us just how much we could drink, Rochambeaux gave us Rosie (thanks a lot), the eye candy of BO5 in kelly green, and chuck pulled its first upset of LTS in Flip Cup. And of course Dane! In season three we moved yet again to Salt Water Grill for our first 16 team season in LA Triumph history. To our sick little world we welcomed Green Monkeys, Freeballin, Royal Tanneballs, Victory by da Feet, Caniballs, and our friends from Sunday afternoons, Henry s. While the sponsor change was a little rough on the bar crowd, this season marked the addition of Asian Teddy s King of the Hill and the Alcoballic s Blue Hawaiian Death Mix. No one s livers were quite the same again. After three seasons of bar hopping, Season 4 saw us find the promise land. The Frat House gave us food, a large dance area, stocked bar with cheep booze, and everyone s favorite game guess where I go to high school? Adding the Unforgetaballz and Green Monkey s changing their names to Two Girls one Flip Cup gave us a second 16 team season and lead to the spawning of the LA Crescent Division on Monday nights. Brass Bands on the field, Drink-O, and our first ever entry into the WAKA Founder s Cup. In the Spring of 2009 we saw Triumph take its current shape with our current 16 teams, tons of Money raised for various charities, and a waiting list to join our division. I wish to take a moment to thank the members of the board and our Past Presidents Nick and Travis for their service in making LA Triumph one of the greatest leagues in WAKA. A special thank you also goes out to the tireless efforts of our GMOT editors, Brenna (S1), Jennifer (S2), Mike (S3), and Mims S4-6) who have given you your Thursday morning reading material for the past 6 seasons as well as your webchairs Travis (S1-4) and Mims (S5-6) who have kept the websites up to date with scores, GMOTs, and vital info. Without the tireless efforts of these volunteers this league would not be possible. It has been my pleasure to serve as the Regional Rep for the New Orleans Area these past 2 years and El Presidente and VP the year before that. While trying at times (love ya Mouth and Farris) its has been a fun experience. I am sure I will still get recognized as Hey you re that Kickball guy on a regular basis but I believe I am leaving the league in very capable hands. I wish your next rep and the incoming board led by Don, the best of luck. I know you will succeed. Just remember kids, it s only Kickball. Cheer s Decker

3 SEASON 5, EDITION 9 Page 3 The Umpire s Corner I am going to end this season and my tenure as head umpire in the LA Triumph the same way we started back in the spring, by talking about sportsmanship. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have played in this league for being good sports, and extend a special thanks to those of you who helped out by being umpires this season. I understand that paying $60 to umpire co-ed adult kickball is not what any of us really want to be doing with our free time, but without you guys and girls this league would not function. The volunteer umpires are the people who run this league week-in and weekout, so take some time this week to thank the players around the league for putting in the effort for the benefit of all of us. Our volunteer umpires are the best examples of selfless sportsmanship that exist in this league. A special thanks to all of you who stuck around and umpired games during the playoffs, this was the first tournament we have ever run that I didn t have to chase people down and beg them to umpire a game. In fact, there were some heated words exchanged between a couple of guys who both wanted to umpire the final which is a problem that I never could have imagined given that when we started this league the board was forced to umpire the last couple of games because everyone else said no way am I getting in the middle of that mess. It is a tribute to all of members of the LA Triumph that the level of sportsmanship has risen with the level of play to the point where people are literally fighting each other for a chance to umpire a heated game from behind the plate. Thanks again to all of you, Thomas. 9 SEASON 5, EDITION 9 PAGE 9 Flip Cup Refresher No scores for last week because well it s 11 pm and Mims is pissed I am holding up the newsletter. Below you see the bracket and seeds. All ties were broken by Flip Differential (you see there is a reason we kept score all year). If there are any questions today please let Seth or I know. As a refresher here are the rules of flip cup. Pay special attention to the part where it states you must have 5 people. This is required for the tournament and you must use the SAME 5 for the entirety of the tournament Your team is your team so good luck and happy flipping. 1. Pick five members of your team, preferably those skilled in the art of flipping plastic cups while drunk. Once they are at the table, they are in for the long haul no player substitutions allowed. 2. Line up on one side of the table against your opponent (same team you just played in Kickball). Give them an intimidating stare. Yell incoherently for dramatic effect (optional but recommended, intimidation goes a long way). Question why the guy on the other team who always bunts thinks he is actually man enough to play Flip Cup. 3. Fill plastic cup approximately one quarter full with beer, and match it up to your opponent who is across from you so the two of you can determine what a quarter inch is. DISCLAIMER WAKA does not in any way promote or encourage alcohol abuse or drunk driving. That said Flip Cup is a Drinking Man s Game. That s OK though; watching your friends make drunken asses of themselves is half the fun! 4. The game begins when the first person from each team toasts his opponent, touches his or her cup to the table, and chugs the beer. This will be explained ad nausem each week as someone ALWAYS F**** this up. Pay Attention! 5. Participants must have their cup on the table at all times. No starting with your cup in your hand. Cheaters never win. 6. When you finished the beer, balance cup over the ledge of table. The goal is to flip your cup (hence the name) so that it lands mouth side down. You may only use one hand to flip the cup, though the second hand may be used to properly balance the cup on the edge. 7. If at first you don t succeed, keep trying until you do. Quitters win as often as cheaters (See Rule 5). Rule 7a: AKA The Renee Rule While ridiculing your opponents suckitude is not only perfectly acceptable but also highly encouraged, throwing beer on them is not. No one likes a sore loser, and your team will be disqualified. Please respect the sanctity of the game. 8. Once the first person flips his cup, the process is repeated until the last person chugs and flips. The team whose five members successfully flip their five cups first is the winner.

10 SEASON 5, EDITION 9 PAGE 10 Who will be the King of the Hill Its almost time for the most anticipated event on the LA Triumph Summer calendar, the ultimate King of the Hill tournament. Thursday night 32 of the leagues best flippers will get around the table to have a chance of taking home the ultimate bragging rights until next season. This is not going to be our usual game of King of the Hill. No one can count on some inexperienced flipper to screw up in the first couple of rounds. Everyone need to be on there A game if you want to last in this tournament. Below is a list of people who have qualified, In many cases people have earned multiple spots so the second name is who they are giving their second, or third slot to. If you still need to give a slot away, or for some reason you have something better to do than compete for the ultimate drinking crown please let the proper flipping authorities know ASAP.

16 SEASON 5, EDITION 9 PAGE 16 Captain s Corner Where My Pitches At? First I want to congratulate Blue Balls for another big victory. It is hard to be consistently that good and we at WMPA? respect that. Second I d like to thank the guys who put all of this together. You guys do a lot of hard work with what appears to be a minimal amount of support from WAKA. WMPA? appreciates that. Thank you. Third, something on the more ridiculous side of kickball happened at the championship tournament. While there is all manner of ridiculousness every week in this game, this takes the cake. At one point during the day we had 5TC Blue Balls, Balls that are deep, Ball with alcohol, Royal Balls, kickballs and for one very inappropriate time Human Balls. Hahaha, hohoho, hehehe, funny right? WRONG. It is never funny, no matter how drunk you are to expose your balls to a woman, unless she has asked to see them. This, of course, is a possibility in our league but I assure you in this case it was not. I make more than my fair share of ridiculous comments and have probably turned some people off with my actions so I won t lecture here. But, I reiterate, if you think it is funny or ever appropriate to spontaneously show you balls in public (to either sex) you are so wrong. Now, apologies have been sent and accepted so this is a dead issue. We can keep it that way by letting the kickballs, Blue Balls and Royal Balls be the only balls on the field and at the bar this week. Henry s Uptown Kickball Giants THANK YOU HUKG for a GREAT season! We didn t win a lot, but we excelled at being awesome! And, we make one hell of a nerdy team! The last few weeks have been the best kickball we played all season, especially Saturday! 19 SEASON 5, EDITION 9 PAGE 19 Some Final Thoughts from The Ghostman La Triumph s sixth season will be in the books, once we take care of our final business on the fields and in the bar this week. It has been my pleasure to have the responsibility of putting this newsletter together every week during our spring and summer seasons. However, it is always nice to have a break and get a chance to catch up on some things, like real work that pays me money so I can afford to play kickball. I want to thank Nick and the rest of the board for the job they have done this season in running the league. Things have gone pretty smoothly, and it seems like we are finally getting the hang of successfully running a kickball league. I also want to thank Thomas for his three seasons of service as the head umpire of this league. The head ump is truly a thankless job, and a very difficult one to do over such a long term. This newsletter would not be possible without all the help of the people who submit things every week. I basically make everything look nice from the many files I receive every week, and distribute this thing to the league. The first person that I need to thank is my friend the Spread Eagle who is stepping down after this season. He has been enlightening us with his predictions for the last three seasons, and will be hard to replace. It would have been a lot harder when I took on this responsibility last summer if I did not have his support and help. For that I say Thank You. No worries though I hear Luke the Marlboro Man is going to step up and try to predict our games next spring. It s a rough job, but I know he is up to the task. I also need to thank Bart for starting the game of the week section this season. I think it has been a great edition to this newsletter that I would like to continue in the future. Also, what would this newsletter be like without Masa s handwritten contributions every week? This is the only part of this newsletter that does not originate in my gmail account. I really get a letter hand delivered every week. A few weeks ago one of my employees finally asked what is with the letters that he finds on the floor every week when he gets to work. All I could do was laugh. Thanks Masa for giving us your insight every week. Hopefully we can continue this next season. Final thanks need to go out to Travis and Seth for taking care of flip cup this season, and to the writers of all the captains corner s. I started giving out awards for the best captains corners, and there is always some disagreement. Special thanks goes out to Riley, Farris, Bart, Beth, Meg, Brad, Decker, Travis, David, and Rosie for submitting me great material week in and week out. Maybe one day we will compile a book of the best writings to come out of LA Triumph. In closing I want to thank Decker for his years of service to this league and for helping make it what it is today. The end of this season marks the end of the original LTS leadership that shaped this league. We need to give him a big thank you for helping bring kickball to New Orleans. Luckily he is leaving the league in very capable hands. I know I will see many of you around town over the next several months, but if not I ll see you in the spring. If anyone has any ideas on how to improve this newsletter please let me know. I am always open to new ideas. Ill have the next newsletter out sometime mid to late March.
