Time flies when we are having a great time. This upcoming meeting will be our busiest meeting of the season and we have a great deal going on. We will be selling Clambake tickets at the February meeting and again on Saturday February 2 nd, Friday February 8th and Friday February 15th at the Key Colony Beach Post Office between 10:00AM and 1:00PM. There are a limited number of tickets available, so buy early and avoid being disappointed. The Clambake is scheduled for President s Day, Monday, February 18th. Tickets will remain the same price as last year, $15.00 for members and $25.00 for non-members. Please remember that everyone, including workers, is required to purchase tickets. To our new members, do not miss this event as it is one of the best events in the entire Marathon area. Marathon Lady tickets will also be on sale at the meeting in the conference room at City Hall before the start of our meeting. The trip is scheduled for March 10 th at 1:00PM. It is a private charter and the club will supply the beer, soda and snacks. We expect that this trip will sell out and the response so far has been very good. This is a great opportunity to fish as a group and enjoy some good fellowship. See Tucker DeGraw for more information. Be sure to pick up this year s gift certificate before the meeting. They will be available in the conference room after you check in at the desk in the hallway. The gift this year is a $30.00 gift certificate to one of the following local businesses: Cabana Breezes, Sparky s Landing, Frank s Grill, Key Colony Inn, or Captain Hooks. Each member will dip into the box and select a random certificate. Feel free to trade them with another member if you wish to change your selection. We will also be collecting the money for the Little Palm Trip which is scheduled for March 24 th. The cost of the trip is $68.00 plus tax and gratuity for a total of $87.00 per person. This is a special price that our Vice Commodore negotiated and is a significant saving over the regular price. All tickets must be paid by the March meeting. Currently the trip is sold out and there is a waiting list. See Bob Warn in the conference room before the meeting to pay for your tickets or get more information. Wheel-barrow of Cheer tickets will also be on sale in the main hall. This is one of our most important fundraisers, so please support this raffle. Please don t forget our sunset/moonrise cruise and moor up on January 27th. Join us at Gulfside ICW marker #13 or if windy the group will raft up behind Bamboo Key. 2 KEY COLONY BEACH FISHING & BOATING CLUB JANUARY 4, 2013 MINUTES The January meeting of the Fishing & Boating Club was called to order on January 4, 2013 at 6:30 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Commodore Bill Knickman then stated the purpose of the Club which is to promote fishing, boating and good fellowship among all members. He also welcomed back all snowbirds for another exciting season. The minutes of the December 7 th meeting were accepted on a motion by Ken Duffy, which was seconded by Rene Warn and passed by the members. Treasurer Chick Lees read the Treasurer s Report. As of November 30, 2012 the balance was $4, Accounting for deposits of $2, and expenses of $440.58, the new balance as of December 31, 2012 was $6, A motion to accept the report was made by Lyn Ellis and seconded by Peter Hines and passed by the members. Special thanks to bartenders Gail Cortelyou and Tobe Creed; and John and Carol Fruhmorgen for taking care of the food for this meeting. Thanks also to all those members who helped in the kitchen and with the food service Robert Lalena, Ron Whitson, Lyn Ellis, Flo Roseboro, Rose Marie Knickman and Anita Alferes. Vice Commodore Bob Warn discussed the upcoming Little Palm Brunch event. The brunch will take place on Sunday, March 24 th at Little Palm Island at a cost of $68.00 per person. The boat will take everyone out to the island at 11:30. Please sign up if you are interested in going since the event is limited to 40 people. FYI, Marlin Fuel is offering members a discount on home delivery of marine gasoline and diesel fuel. Their phone number is (305) Membership Secretaries Ron and Tania Teke reminded everyone that the club will no longer be mailing out the newsletter. Members will receive their copies by . Director at Large Jerry Ellis asked members to sign up if they are interested in going to the Little Palm Brunch and/or the Marathon Lady fishing trip. Signup sheets are on the side table. Fund Raising Director Tom Alferes reminded members to sign up and volunteer for at least one activity this season. Tournament Director John Fruhmorgen presented prize money to the following anglers who each received $50: Ron Teke, Steve Buckeridge, Bob Warn, John Tyson, Cindy Casey, Tom Casey, Dave Burnett, and two prizes to John Luciano. The winners of the Grouper Contest were Jim Teague who took First Place with John Luciano in Second Place. Marathon Marine and Boatyard was the sponsor of the event. $200 in prize money was presented to Jim by Bill and John and Mark from Marathon Marine.

3 Remember that our web site is up and running and you can find out more information about all the tournaments on the web site. Thank you, John and Jim Crist for all your work on getting the site going. The Club still needs items for the silent auction. Please contact John if you have any items to donate. We hope to go over the $1,800 raised last year. Skinny Water. Don Palmer reiterated that there will be monthly winners this year as well as an annual winner and winner for the highest % of the state record. Commodore Bill Knickman then asked for any new business and updates on upcoming events. Tucker DeGraw provided an update on the Marathon Lady Fishing Excursion. The trip will take place on Sunday March 10th at 1:30 (please be at the dock by 1:00). We are aiming for 60 participants. Tickets will be honored if the weather is inclement and the boat does not go out. Please sign up if you are interested. John Tyson stated that approximately 160 pounds of fish had already been collected by members for the Clam Bake. Remember that there will be a raffle for all those who provided fish with the winner receiving a $100 gift certificate to Captain Hook s. Corky Spehrley then spoke about the 7th Street Annex Project that he is spearheading. Corky has put together a plan to save the building rather than have it torn down as currently planned. He is looking for support and volunteers to help with the work, provided the plan is approved by the City Commission. Please contact him if you are interested. Tickets for the Clam Bake will be on sale at the February Meeting and again on Saturday Feb. 2nd, Friday Feb. 8th and Friday Feb. 15th at the Post Office from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Wheelbarrow of cheers tickets will also be available for purchase at these times. Please support your club by purchasing tickets. Denise from Captain Hook s said that they are offering first response instructions for $50 for club members. The course will take place on Sunday, Jan. 27th at 9:00 AM. Participants will receive course materials and manuals. Please reserve by Jan 18th. Rene Warn mentioned that the Keyettes were sponsoring a Casino Night for $25.00 a person on Friday January 11th from 6:00-9:00 PM. Prizes will be awarded. Monthly tournament, Feb 1-28 / Fish 12 species $50 pay off for heaviest fish in each category. Anglers can only win 2 categories. 3rd Generations Off Shore/In Shore Mix kicks off Feb You need to weigh 1 off shore fish and 1 inshore fish then both percentages will be added together. They can be weighed on different dates. The angler with the best combined percentage will take home $200 and 2nd place will be $50. The 1st place winner will also be awarded a championship shirt. Kings will be considered a off shore. Outlaw Fisheries Yellowtail Classic. Feb 1-28/ Heaviest Yellowtail 1st Prize $150 shirt/ 2nd $75 3rd $50 Sparkys Fish for food.
