5 MARCH 13-MARCH 19, 2017 Page 5 WELCOME BACK LANDON! After almost 3 years away from TwinEagles, Landon Comeau has rejoined the TwinEagles team. Landon was born and raised in Northern Vermont, where he quickly realized he wanted to become a golf professional, and relocated to Southwest Florida. He began his career at the Island Country Club on Marco Island, FL. During his 5 years at the Island Country Club, Landon acquired his PGA Class A membership and worked his way up to First Assistant. Landon joined the TwinEagles golf staff in While at TwinEagles, Landon had a variety of golf operations managerial and member tournament responsibilities. In addition, Landon expe- rienced the LPGA CME Group Titleholders championship and two PGA Champions tour tournaments, The ACE Group Classic. Landon made the difficult decision to leave TwinEagles to be closer to family and moved back to New England. He joined the Manchester Country Club in Bedford, NH as First Assistant. After six months, Landon was offered a territory sales management position with Summit Packaging Systems in Manchester, NH. For over 2 years, Landon grew his territory and became a valuable asset to the company. However, he missed the golf industry, Southwest Florida and The TwinEagles Club. Landon reached out to Don for net- working, and after multiple conversations, accepted the TwinEagles Head Golf Professional position. Outside of golfing, Landon enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time at the beach. 6 M A R C H M A R C H 1 9, Page 6 S U T T I E G O L F Ladies Tip: CREATE A BETTER WEIGHT SHIFT One of the biggest problems the ladies have is moving the majority of their weight to their front leg prior to making contact with the ball. This is usually due to a hip or right knee sway on the backswing. The swaying of the right leg on the backswing makes it very difficult to move to the front leg on the forward swing. This causes that infamous "chicken wing" arms after impact. Next time you have a chance to hit balls try to keep the right leg from swaying on the backswing. You can do this by keeping the weight on the inside of the right foot as you take the club back. If you do this you will create a better weight transfer to the front leg on the downswing. As a result, your drives will get longer. Men's tip: TAKE THE "HIT" OUT OF YOUR SWING I have never met a guy that didn't want more distance. Unfortunately, the way you guys go about it is backwards. You all try to swing as hard as you can. The result is usually a wild slice or pull hook. Generally, this is a result of trying to HIT AT the ball and then a sudden deceleration of the clubhead. This is call the "HIT IM- PULSE" and it very destructive to straight and long drives. A couple of easy tips will help you get rid of this HIT IMPULSE. First. try to make a swing by swinging thru the area instead of AT the Ball. Relax your grip on the club. Next, try to make a full shoulder turn. And finally, think of making a full and complete finish. Make an effort to hold your finish for at least 3 seconds. Pretty soon those errant drives will straighten out. As peak season approaches, more and more members will be utilizing the practice range and facilities. While TwinEagles is fortunate to have a very large practice facility, it s important for golfers to be informed on the best divot pattern to maintain. This will ensure the range remains in optimum condition throughout season. According to the USGA, the Linear Divot Pattern is the best divot pattern. Below is the USGA s explanation and samples of three divot patterns: with each swing. This can usually be done for 15 to 20 shots before moving sideways to create a new line of divots. So long as a minimum of 4 inches of live turf is preserved between strips of divots, the turf will recover quickly. Because this divot pattern removes the least amount of turf and promotes quick recovery, it is the preferred method. 17 T W I N E A G L E S H A P P E N I N G S Page 17 T W I N E A G L E S B O O K C L U B Eighteen book club members gathered on Tuesday, March 7th, to discuss John Irving's 1989 novel A Prayer for Owen Meany. We had intentionally chosen a book that had been the favorite of several members years ago when they first read it. (Incidentally, there were also some misgivings about its length at this busy time of the winter season--sorry! Hope members can find time to read/finish reading it for summer reading!) We talked about what we liked the first time we read the book and how our life experiences might have changed our first impressions. The book has so many layers of meaning that, as one member stated, "we could spend days discussing it." We examined its foreshadowing, the recurring themes, its structure of flashbacks to boyhood, and the humor that left memories years later. The preoccupations of adolescent boys, and receiving group s should plus the very serious questioning of contact Sharon Barry religion and politics by a narrator (sseb327@comcast.net). (who shows himself to be bitter and troubled by the loss of his friend) present a unique outlook on life in America from 1942 to The book presents the lives of two men: one, the narrator, as he recalls his childhood friend; and the second, an unusual Owen Meany, possibly an instrument of God, possibly a young man who found special powers through his own particular physical challenges. We will read The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George for Thursday, April 6th at 4:00pm, in the ladies locker room lounge. 20 T W I N E A G L E S H A P P E N I N G S Page W O M E N O F S O U T H W E S T F L O R I D A You re invited to join a very special group of women Women Who Care OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA. Giving together to make a difference in our community meetings: Tuesday, March 21 All meetings are 4:00pm to 5:00pm At Temple Shalom 4630 Pine Ridge Road Naples. Meeting space generously donated by Temple Shalom. Join us. Experience the power of one hour! In only ten short meetings, since 2013 we ve raised more than $150,000 for worthy local charities serving Southwest Florida. If... you don t like lengthy meetings you don t have time for a major volunteer commitment you want to learn more about local charities working to make Southwest Florida a better place you want to tell others about a charity you support you want to be part of a national network of locally-focused chapters you want 100% of your donation to go directly to the charty......then 100+ Women Who Care of Southwest Florida is the organization for you! We make philanthropy simple. Here s how it works: 1 hour We meet for no more than one hour. 3 times a year We meet once each month, in January, February, and March only. 3 presentations Every member has the opportunity to nominate a local nonprofit 501(c)3 charity. Three are chosen at random for the group s consideration. 10 minutes If your charity is one of the three chosen, you ll deliver a brief timed presentation to the membership, describing why that charity should receive the group s donation. 1 charity per month After hearing presentations on three charities, members cast ballots to determine which charity will receive our donations for the month. $100 Each member commits to write a check for $100 to that charity. 100% Every penny of your donation goes to the charity. None is used for operations.... and your donation is tax deductible. 100WomenSouthwestFlorida.com Facebook: 100WomenSouthwestFlorida Please call Sheila Gea with any questions
