3 Golf Maintenance Update Following Hurricane Irma, we were fortunate to have been able to get the courses ready as quickly as we could for our Members and guests. We spent many days picking up debris and removing broken tree limbs, and the amount of rainfall that occurred was more than we have ever experienced on the courses. This resulted in a lot of bunker repairs, and at this point, we still have standing water in the waste areas. Our focus quickly shifted from clean up to begin preparing for the Member-Guest Tournament. The greens are very healthy and are responding greatly to our agronomic plan. We are preparing the greens for the upcoming overseeding process. Installed sod spots over the summer will be smoothed out by top dressing the areas with sand over many light applications. This will allow the overseed to be planted on a smooth surface for the season. This year we will be overseeding the greens, tees, and fairways on the Watson and Palmer courses. The Nicklaus course will be overseeded wall to wall and all turf areas will have overseed, creating a more desired look for the course. Following the winter season, the Nicklaus course is scheduled to begin renovation projects in the spring. gatherings 3

5 Pink On The Links Golf Tournament From 12 players in 2016 to 56 players in 2017, The Pink On The Links tournament has turned into a premier event, and with such a great cause to support, it s easy to see why! With a net 54.5 score, and a narrow 0.2 margin of victory, the big winners of the day were Carole and Chris Clegg, teamed up with Leslie and Cameron McLatchie for first place. In second, with a score of 54.7, was the team of Connie Dodson, Kim Harvey, Kevin Ingram, and Steve Schuessler. And taking the final spot on the podium, with a net total score of 57.8, was Michel and Teresa Yip, teaming up with Brian Fiala and Mike Payne to take home third. Thanks to everyone for coming out and really making this a special tournament. We can t wait to see you again next year for an even bigger turnout! 6 Turn Reunion Pink Friday, October 20, was a day dedicated to raise awareness of Breast Cancer and early detection as Reunion s Members, staff and guests joined together in the fight against this prevalent disease. That Friday was filled with events from the Pink on the Links Golf Tournament and the Pink Rubber Duck Race at the Water Park to a Turn Reunion Pink Member/ Manager Reception. All proceeds from these special events were donated to the Florida Hospital Breast Cancer Care Fund and American Cancer Society s Making Strides. We are truly inspired by all the women who are fighting or have fought breast cancer and we celebrate those who support this cause. Sunday, November pm, Universal Boulevard Member Social, TopGolf Reservations required no later than Friday, October 20 TopGolf Orlando is opening soon, so join your fellow Members to experience this popular way to practice your skills and socialize in a climate controlled environment! TopGolf games can be played by all ages and skill levels, with micro chipped golf balls that score themselves, providing players with instant feedback on each shot's accuracy and distance. Players aim for 11 giant dartboard-like targets on a 215-yard outfield, and the farther the shot goes and the closer to the pin, the more points the player receives. You can bring your own golf clubs or use the clubs provided by the venue. Reunion has reserved five hitting bays for five people each for three hours, along with a full dinner and two drinks per person. Members are responsible for their own transportation to TopGolf and any additional refreshments ordered. A minimum of 20 must RSVP to proceed with this Member Social, and a maximum of 25 may attend, so don't delay in registering for this event! 17 Inside THE LINES Tennis Conditioning Being in shape for tennis is a lot different than being just in shape. Tennis is a game of sprints, not miles. In order to get into tennis shape one needs to do intervals in the gym, not just running mileage on the treadmill. Although running on the treadmill is great for endurance, it won t really improve your explosiveness to get to a ball and then recover. The three most important muscles in playing tennis are your quadriceps, which are your major leg muscles, your triceps, and also your core. All of these muscle groups will work together in making your tennis shots the best they can be. There are many ways to strengthen the tennis muscles beside the obvious, which would be hitting more balls, but none more important than working out in the gym. Hitting the gym not only helps with preventing injuries such as tennis elbow and muscle pulls, but also increases quickness and the ability to make shots that normally you might not be able to make. There are many classes that you can do to also help improve your conditioning, such as cardio-tennis, which works on you heart rate and maintaining your intensity; yoga, which helps lengthen your muscles making you more flexible; and also water aerobics, that uses water as your resistance and also helps you to avoid the high impact of some other exercises. gatherings 17
