3 Managing Director s Corner Reunion Resort & Club is pleased to present a Star Spangled Celebration over the upcoming July 4 th holiday weekend! Please see below for an outline of all the exciting and patriotic events we have planned: Saturday, July 2 Water Park Bounce House Party with several inflatable rides and games, DJ entertainment, hourly contests such as Hot Potato and Cannon Ball competitions, chair massages and a lunchtime All- American BBQ. The Cove Family lawn games, a hot dog eating contest, and a lunchtime All-American BBQ during the day, followed by Light Up the Cove in the evening with DJ entertainment from 6:30 to 9pm with a dive-in movie at 9:30pm. Glow bundles will be available for purchase! Sunday, July 3 Fireworks Display 9pm at Palmer/Watson Driving Range Water Park Bounce House Party with several inflatable rides and games, DJ entertainment, hourly contests such as Hula Hoop and Tug of War competitions, chair massages, a lunchtime All-American BBQ, and the popular Gatorland Florida Wildlife Show at 3pm. The Cove Family lawn games, a pie eating contest, and a lunchtime All-American BBQ. Grande Pavilion Independence Day Celebration Cookout from 6-8:30pm, with DJ entertainment, Kid s Crew to entertain children and golf games and activities at the driving range. Fireworks Display 9pm Fireworks Display will be shot from center of Palmer/Watson driving range. Clubhouse Terrace Live band after fireworks until midnight, more Kid s Crew activities to entertain children after the fireworks, with golf games at the Clubhouse putting green. Monday, July 4 Clubhouse Build Your Own Burger Bar at lunchtime View at Eleven Open for drinks and dessert as usual from 6-11pm with a great view of nearby community and theme park fireworks displays. 4 June Golf Spring Members Golf Week April saw many familiar faces back in town for our much anticipated Spring Member s Golf Week. The event, which is open to all golf members, consisted of 4 different games where points were awarded or the top 5 spots in each event. At the end of the 4 events, overall winners in both gross and net categories were determined. Day 1 Individual Stableford Day 3 Individual v Par Spring Member s Golf Week ended with an awards dinner, featuring line dancing, the end of the season golf tournament trophy presentation and our annual silent auction Our overall Point winners for the week: Men s Gross: Tom Baer Men s Net: Bill Sussman Ladies Gross: Brenda Rendleman Ladies Net: Carole Clegg Day 2 2 Person Best Ball Day 4 4 Person Scramble gatherings 4 Sunday s event (RTS Kickoff) was the first event in the return of the Reunion Tournament Series. This event did not count towards the total point standings for Spring Members Week. All Reunion Tournament Series events are stroke play points awarded in order of finishing place in each division. Winning the men s gross was Marshal Sheffer with a score of 74; Roberta Sentel won the ladies gross with a score of 73. Winning the net for men was David White with a net score of 70, and winning the ladies net in a match of cards was Helen Eichorn with a score of 66. 7 2016 North FL PGA Match Play Championship Reunion s Golf Professionals participated in the 2016 North FL PGA Match Play Championship. We had 5 Professionals play - Jake Etherton, Will Young, Eric Sargent, Justin Inclema, and Jubal Jerik. First step was qualifying in the top 64 to advance to match play; all 5 qualified!! This is a huge achievement having all 5 Reunion Professionals advancing to the top 64! Jake Etherton and Will Young advanced to the Sweet 16 after being eliminated by ex Tour Players and PGA Player of the year. 8 International Women s Golf Day Girls and women all around the world will be grabbing their clubs and hitting the green on the same day, at the same time, in an effort to support International Women s Golf Day. 14 Inside THE LINES The Inside-Out Half Volley gatherings 14 If you read the title of this article and were saying to yourself that you are the world s best half volleyer, then I ve got news for you; you aren t moving on the court correctly. The half volley should be used in emergency situations, not as a normal or every other shot on the court. It should be used in those cases where you got caught just a little deeper on the net than you would have liked or your opponent hit an incredible dipping shot on your shoe laces. Now let s discuss how to hit an effective half-volley so that not only will you make the shot, but also so you will put your opponent on defense. First things first, you have to apply some science and math to how the ball is going to come off of your racquets face. For a half volley, the ball will be landing on the ground just before the racquet, meaning the ball will be coming up off of the ground before hitting your strings. Since the ball will be coming up before hitting the strings, that means the ball will leave your flat racquet going up at the same angle. The reason this is so important to understand is that many club players attempt to hit half volleys, but they always seem to pop-up, so we need to turn the racquet face a little closed to keep it down. After you understand the physics behind the half volley, you can then start to apply your tennis knowledge. When making contact with your closed racquets face, you will push the palm of your hand through the shot; this allows the ball to stay low and deep. Make sure that after hitting this shot that you move forward a step or two so that you won t be hitting the same difficult shot again.
