2 Welcome to the schedule for the 40 Ponteland Parish Flower Show. Instigated by Dr Jack White over the 1977/78 winter, the first show was held in the Memorial Hall on the second Saturday in September, Drawing on gardeners experiences, what they were growing in 1978 and other flower show schedules lists of classes for the various sections of the show were established. Records were kept of entries in each class so that sections could be adjusted and the schedule modified over the 40 years. There was once an eight class Floral Art Section but this was changed to a Floral Exhibition, The Changing Face of Flowers, when 25 years of the show were celebrated in Thanks are due to the Ponteland Floral Art Club and the Callerton Garden and Flower Club for the magnificent Floral Exhibitions they have staged every year since the change was made. With decreasing membership the North East Group of the Heather Society was incorporated in the show in More recently in 2013, Ponteland Memorial Hall Leek Club joined the show. The Voluntary Committee that run the show say thank you to the many judges who have given freely of their time and skill over the years for two hours or so at every show. The committee would welcome anyone interested in helping with the show to contact the chairman, Syd Cowan on or syd.cowan@btinternet.com. The Show has followed the same pattern ever since 1978 so that the 2017 show will be held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday, 9 September. We look forward to you exhibiting and attending this year s show. Syd Cowan (Chairman for the last 26 years)
