2 PLEASE NOTE Exhibitors who require a VEHICLE PASS for use on Show Day at OLD RAILWAY LINE ENTRANCE ONLY MUST send their completed entry form to reach the appropriate Secretary by the stated closing dates, enclosing a STAMPED SELF ADDRESSED ENVELOPE. Eligibility for one vehicle pass requires a minimum of three entries per household. RULES 1. The judges may withhold any award should they consider it not warranted. 2. A Third Prize will only be awarded in classes with four or more entries. 3. Every entry must be the unaided work of the Exhibitor, having been completed within the last two years and NOT previously exhibited at Burwarton Show. Please indicate if craft items are own design. 4. In the Children s Section please state age of child on each exhibit, which should be the unaided work of the entrant. N.B. No name. 5. Exhibitors may enter only one article in each class. 6. Exhibits must not display names of individuals or W.I.s. 7. Wine must be exhibited in clear glass bottles with a flanged cork or plastic stopper. Date on label. 8. Exhibits may be staged during the following times: Wednesday 2 August p.m p.m. Thursday 3 August a.m a.m. (W.I. Class) 7.30 a.m a.m. (all other classes) 9. Judging of the W.I. Class will commence at 8.00 a.m. prompt Judging of all other classes will commence at 8.30 a.m. prompt 10. Exhibits may be withdrawn at or after 5.30 p.m. No responsibility can be taken for items not removed by 6.00 p.m. The Society will not be held responsible for loss or damage to any items exhibited or left in the Marquee. 11. Cups will be presented at 5.00 p.m. in the marquee. 12. Prize money to be collected in the marquee between 5.30 p.m p.m. Any prize money not collected on Show day will be available for collection from the Show office before 30 August Uncollected prize money after this date will be treated as a donation to the Society. These competitions will be run under the General Rules for Burwarton Show, as printed in the Agricultural Schedule. A bottle of home-made fruit liqueur 10. A bottle of home-made wine Sausage rolls Ingredients Quick flaky pastry 225g plain flour 175g butter or block margarine Pinch of salt Cold water to mix Beaten egg to glaze 450g good quality pork sausage meat Method 1. Weigh out fat, then wrap in foil and put in the freezer for 1 hour. 2. Sift flour and salt into a bowl. Hold fat in foil and grate on coarse grater over flour, keep dipping the fat into the flour. Take palette knife and start to distribute the fat into the flour, coating all the fat with flour until the mixture is crumbly. 3. Add enough cold water to form dough that leaves the bowl clean. Using hands, bring gently together. Put dough in a polythene bag and chill for 30 minutes. 4. Roll out the pastry to an oblong 35cm x 25cm. Cut in half to make two long strips. 5. Divide sausage meat into two portions and roll each into a thin roll to fit the pastry. Brush edges with beaten egg and roll up. Join on the underside. 6. Cut into 5cm pieces and make 3 diagonal cuts on top of each. Place on baking sheet and brush with beaten egg. Bake for minutes at 220C, 4254F, Gas mark 7. 3

A banana loaf (given recipe) Banana and pecan fudge loaf Ingredients 2 ripe bananas, mashed, about 200g peeled weight 2 medium eggs, beaten 100g butter, melted 100g plain or vanilla yogurt 100g light brown caster sugar 200g self-raising flour 1/2 tsp baking powder 100g pecans, roughly chopped 150g pack fudge (e.g. in wrappers), roughly chopped into pieces Method 1. Heat the oven to 160C/fan 140C/gas 3. Butter and line the base of a 900g loaf tin. Mix together the bananas, eggs, butter, yogurt and sugar, until well combined. Sift the flour and baking powder together and fold into the mixture, then fold in three-quarters of the pecan nuts and half the fudge. 2. Spoon the mixture into the tin and level the top. Sprinkle on the remaining nuts and fudge. Bake for mins until the loaf is risen and feels springy. Cool in the tin, then remove and peel off the lining. Will keep, wrapped, in an airtight container, for up to 3-4 days. 4

6 Class 26 WOMEN S INSTITUTE CLASS JUDGING WILL COMMENCE AT 8.00 A.M. Entry Free Prizes: 1st 10.00, 2nd 6.00, 3rd 4.00 SPACE MOBILES LTD., Stanton Long, have generously sponsored the prize money in this class THE W.I. PERPETUAL CHALLENGE SHIELD presented by The Late Dowager Viscountess Boyne will be awarded to the winner of this class. Open to all Institutes in the Shropshire Federation. Each competing W.I. will receive TWO STEWARDING BADGES and TWO VEHICLE PASSES for use on Show Day at the OLD RAILWAY LINE ENTRANCE ONLY. Entries close: Tuesday 26 June 2018 HOBBIES Five out of the six articles of the Institute s choice 2 items of cookery, 1 item of craft, 1 fresh floral exhibit, 1 beverage, 1 miscellaneous Maximum marks in this class are 140 with 20 marks for each item being judged, 20 marks for Interpretation and 20 marks for Staging. Judging will be to WI On with the Show rules. The display is viewed from the front on a supplied table and staged on your own firm base with backboard. Outside measurements are not to exceed 1 metre wide, 65 cms deep and 1 metre high. No side panels are permitted. NO FOOD CONTAINING FISH, PATE OR YOGHURT WILL BE JUDGED. N.B. Institutes are requested not to include valuable articles in their staging. One member of each competing W.I. may check the staging of their exhibit after judging at p.m. approx. The Society will make no refund of membership subscriptions in the event of a Show being cancelled for whatever reason. CHARITABLE GRANTS Exhibitors are reminded that the Committee of The Burwarton and District Agricultural Society Limited has limited funds available to make grants to assist in the furtherance of any of the following objects of the Society: 1. The improvement of livestock, the advancement of breeding and the prevention and eradication of animal diseases. 2.
