5 GOLF It s been a winter to forget if you enjoy skiing and a special treat to all Glade golfers who have had more days to golf this winter than most people can ever remember. April is the month to make sure your clubs are re-gripped and cleaned; your golf bag is reorganized with fresh ammo, new tees, gloves, etc.; and your golf cart is prepared for many rounds of enjoyment on the beautiful courses here in the Glade community. THE GROUNDHOG WAS WRONG! A letter from our Director of Golf, Terry McGrath April is here, and Punxsutawney Phil should consider his latest prognostication a complete bust! Probably the easiest and most economical way to rent your golf cart for 2017 is to purchase a GS golf cart lease. The GCL entitles the POA member and household (children with a driver s license between the ages of 16 and 21) to use resort EZ-GO golf carts on Stonehaven, Woodhaven, and Cobb (if they are also G&CC members) any time of day when the course is available for play. This fee (currently at $1,590/yr.) allows you to enjoy cart usage without the headaches of cart maintenance, insurance, and upkeep. Golf carts can be picked up and dropped off after each round at either of the two golf clubhouses. GCL carts are for use only on the courses and cannot be driven on community roadways. As with any cart pass, applicable guest greens fees and cart fees will apply. Finally, let it be known that the most damaging forces that can affect a golf course are not from mother nature but from golfers who knowingly abuse the traffic rules associated with golf cart usage on the course, especially around greens and tees. While we are on the subject of golf carts, I have been asked by more than a few members to review the rules and policies for some of the annual renewals offered to all members and POA members for their enjoyment on the course. Keep carts on cart path near all tees. First up let s look at the 2017 trail pass and golf lease options. All residents who own a private golf cart (or carts) have the option of purchasing a trail pass to permit usage of their cart on a particular course for the 2017 golf year. Trail passes can be purchased for any single course or combinations of two or all three (Cobb Course trail passes are only available to Golf & Country Club members). The trail pass permits usage of the cart on whichever course(s) it has been registered for access. Trail passes do not entitle players to use a resort cart at NO CHARGE or ride with another golfer unless the other golfer s cart also has the same course trail pass. Trail pass pricing can be obtained from the POA office. All residents purchasing trail passes will be given a sticker to be placed on their cart (preferably on the driver s side panel just below the seat cushion) to designate which courses they have trail pass privileges. Anyone using a private golf cart without the proper trail pass must register for play in the appropriate golf pro shop before teeing off. All carts should be kept at least 10 yards from all green complexes. We are off to a great start to the 2017 golf season. We strongly urge all golfers to abide by all golf cart rules that are in place during each day. Please abide by cart path only rules by doing just that--- -never leaving the cart path from #1 tee until you leave the course! The damage golf cart tires can cause such as ruts in wet soil, turf tearing, repeated wear areas, and other damages can take weeks if not months to repair and return to ideal playing conditions. Let s all come together and take great pride in the condition of three of the finest courses in West Virgina----follow the cart rules to the letter and let anyone who is in your group know that they too should be always concerned and abide by the cart rules. Leave the course in the best possible condition for the enjoyment of all who are playing after you! A current copy of all golf cart rules and cart path rules of the day are posted at both golf pro shops.
