Manager s Corner It s kind of sad the golf season is winding down, and the pool is closed. Fall is a great time of the year and the weather is great for playing.

The golf course is in great shape, but at this time of the year, we do have frost in the mornings. Frost is dangerous because if you walk on it the grass will die.

This will occur around mid-november depending on the weather. When the fairways go dormant we want to have as little cart traffic on them as possible so we don t harm the Bermuda.

This process will make our fairways much stronger next spring. Please follow the fairway rules and if you see someone in the wrong place, remind them of where they should be, or call the pro shop.

There are still many indoor events scheduled so check the schedule and sign up early so the staff can plan accordingly. Golf It s hard to believe all the tournaments have been played. Please call the club before your tee time to make sure there is not a delay. We will not be over seeding this year, which means the Bermuda grass in the fairways will turn brown or go dormant. When this occurs, you will be directed to not drive carts on the fairways. Carts will ride in the rough and have cross over points to get as close to your ball as possible. Restaurant and Events Winter is the perfect time to use the restaurant. Normally, schedules are not as full and folks actually have the time to get together and enjoy a great meal prepared in our kitchen. We ll even do the dishes! We re working hard to book more banquets. They re very profitable for the club and to that end Jen Sandy is making every effort to fill the schedule. If you have a meeting, social event or gathering, see Jen and she will be full of ideas. We cater events outside the club also, so if you want to hold an event elsewhere and want great food served please call us. Let s continue working together to make our club the place to be and always keep in mind the more you support your club, the more we can offer you! Closing Hopefully this winter will be a gentle one and golfing can continue into January. Don t hesitate to come in on those chilly days. we ll have a nice fire going in the clubhouse to warm you up and you can even take advantage of our cozy, fireside dining. In the years that the LGA has sponsored and promoted this event, we have donated over $40,000 and we are the largest benefactor of this very worthy organization. The golf winners of the tournament were: Women s; Becki Davis, Elizabeth Davis, Nancy King, Melissa Early. Men s; Mike McClurg, Dickie Henderson, Mark Henderson, Mike Krans, and Mixed; Debbie Morey, Annie Baker, Jan Carlson, Jeff Carlson. The recipients of the Wooden Spoon award (highest score) were David Durr, Ed Dunphy, Mike Cannon, David Massie. Our last regularly scheduled ladies day of the season was Tuesday, October 25. It was followed by lunch and our LGA meeting. The LGA officers for the upcoming year are: President: Becki Davis; V.P.: Elizabeth Davis; Secretary: Linda Hanes; Treasurer: Priscilla Hilton. Even though our organized season is over, there s PLENTY of golf still available. Fall is a beautiful time to be on the golf course. Get out there and PLAY!!!! If you want company call someone in the LGA and we ll be right there. Don t forget the Ringers is still on through the end of November. The book is in the pro shop so check your round against your recorded Ringers scores and keep it going. We would really like to expand the LGA participation. Becki Davis, publicity LGA News The GOLF FOR SECOND BASE tournament was held on Monday, October 10. Proceeds from this tournament go directly to the Pamper Me Pink Mammogram Fund which provides breast cancer education and screenings for people in the Culpeper area. There was a good turnout and a good time was had by all. This year I m very pleased to report that we donated $8200. God grant me the serenity to accept the shots I miss, the courage to try again and the wisdom not to throw my clubs in the lake. ~Unknown

In addition to the menu, I'm planning on taking advantage of the partnership with 5 Riders and Saddle Ridge farms to bring some vegetarian and meat specials on a daily basis. As the weather cools the fall salad ingredients will be more plentiful, spinach, endive and kale will be featured as well as collards, mustard greens, cabbages, and squash.
