2 Why is golf so special for Romania? Some are naming this sport the sport of kings...and you know what? In Romania this is perfectly true, because the first man who had his first golf hit in 1929 was King Ferdinand the 1st on the current golf course belonging today to The Diplomatic Club in Bucharest. Since then until today Romania is proud to be represented by hundreds of golfers within European Golf Association. This year we celebrate our 100th birthday as a united country. There is no better gift for Romania than to honour its people who made it famous worldwide. We choose to honor Mr. Paul Tomita, the best golfer Romania gave to the world so far and who opened in 1995 the first private golf club in Romania in his native town Pianu de Jos (Alba county). This is why Romania's Pro-Am Golf for everyone tournament will be hosted by Paul Tomita Golf Course, between 8th and 10th of June 2018! The history of the Romanian Golf is strongly connected to the personality of the golf professor Paul Tomita, our first professional who successfully represented the country in 6 World Championships and 2 Open Tournaments. He was hired to teach illustrious names like King Mihai and members of historical families: Cantacuzino, Ghica, Brancoveanu, Stirbei, Bibescu.

3 PAUL TOMITA: Golf is a country s business card We ll celebrate on the 12th of June 104 years since he was born ( ) He s practically the founder of this sport in Romania, learning the skills from french teacher Jean Baptiste Lammaison and english teacher J.T. Baker. In 1938 he s awarded the title of Golf Teacher by the London Professionals Golf Players Association. Between Paul Tomiță represented Romania at the World Golf Championships. In 1968 Golf Illustrated magazine from Great Britain named him The most remarkable character of the World Cup. He could have chosen any country to develop his carrier, but he chose to stay in Romania, saying I owe everything to golf and not my merits, showing a remarkable character and a great modesty. After retiring from this successful carrier he went back to his hometown, Pianu de Jos, where, helped by historical personalities like Dimitrie Sturza, Ioan (Jan) Bolog, Giorgio Tomasselli, Ioan Străjan, Ioan Bele, Viorel Coman, Nicolae Ursu and The Golf Club Paul Tomita Alba Iulia he bought 70 hectares and build the today s Paul Tomita Golf Club with 18 holes.

5 Who we are The role of the Professional Golfers Association (Asociatia Golferilor Profesionisti) is to sustain the development and promotion of the golf across Romania, encouraging those who want to make a carrier in this sport. The multidisciplinary management team, conducted by David Foster, the President of the Asociatia Golferilor Profesionisti, brings know-how and vision. David wrote and coordinated a golf programme for 73 schools with over students, in Germany and Netherlands. One of our goals is to attract the younger generation, especially kids within cities close to golf clubs. Also to encourage schools to include golf classes in their curricula. We are lobbying among golf clubs to offer free subscription to youngsters and to create an excellence center to train a junior league. The Ministry of Youth and Sport, The Ministry of National Education, The Romanian Golf Federation will all be involved in common projects with foreign support from International Organizations, example given EGA, IGF, PGAs of Europe and R&A.

Golf referee title earned in 2006 after R&A International Referee Exam in St. Andrews. Golf instructor diploma in 2007 within Școala Națională de Formatori Sportivi in Bucharest. Between Marketing Project Manager of Golf Players Association in Romania organizing numerous golf tournaments. David Foster - Head Pro at Q-Golf / AGP Representative David Foster is a PRO player with over 100 tournaments in portfolio and countless prizes. Besides participating at various golf events, David trained as Director of Golf Academy within over 20 clubs from Germany and Netherlands over 1,500 golf players to under 10 golf handicap. In September 2016 he organized the 1st Pro-Am (professionals & amateurs) Golf Tournament between Germany and Netherlands His passion in working with kids determined him in 1997 to establish a Foundation for Young Golf Players. Since then he wrote and coordinated a golf programme for 73 schools gathering over 12,000 students. Marius Popescu - GCPT Representative His love for golf started in 2001, when he participated at Intensive Golf Trainings in Romania and Austria, thus earning him in 2004 the EGTF Certificate and Membership at European Golf Federation and in 2007 at the Romanian Golf Federation. From September 2017 he is golf instructor and sales agent for Paul Tomita Golf Course from Pianu, Alba county, Romania.

Moved to The Netherlands in 2003 with his wife Irena to work for Shell in The Hague, where he has also taught at Delfland Golf Course. Has since played in the Qualifying School in 2009 where he made it through to the Second Stage. He now plays on the Senior Tour and the EPD Tour. Duncan Muscroft - Head Pro GOLF CLUB COLLI BERICI Wonder boy, he won in 1980 The British Boys Championship and few years later he played in the European Championship and registered 7 victories on hippo tour and The Order of Merit. In almost 40 years of impressive carrier more winnings followed across the world while also teaching renowned players (Stuart Cage, Steven Bottomley, Federico Bisazza and many others).

10 Romanian Professional Players Radu Cirtina - UK PGA Asisstant Started golfing in 2011 on the golf course at Kings Land Country Club in Ineu, Bihor. First golf teacher was Gabriel Toader, at that time Head Pro at KLGC. Since 2016 he relocated to Zala Springs Golf Resort, where he is involved in professional golf activity. Currently Radu gains experience as Tour Caddie on Pro Golf Tour and Challenge Tour. Mircea Stoica - Teaching PRO at GolfLab Academy Mircea is a professional golfer, the founder of the GolfLab Academy, where they teach golf to players from Transylvania. He has been active in the golf industry for 13 years, a professional golf player for 6 years and a golf trainer for 4 years. Titles: PRO GOLF TOUR player, KVEST certified, SPI instructor, Fondator GolfLab Academy and MS Academy. Gabriel Toader - Teaching PRO at Champ du Golf When 20 years old he started his golf carier in native town Breaza at Lac de Verde golf course under the guidance of 65yo hawaian Golf Professor Ronald Castilio. Gabriel teached hundreds of pro-am golf players, being also the mastermind behind the winning of the gold medal at Los Angeles Olympic Games when the teached (in just two months) 2 kids with Down syndrome from Bulgaria who couldn t even speak english. Also, while still an amateur, he was named in 2002 Best Golf Player of the year of Romania. His talent helped him win 75 golf tournaments in over 10 countries, being nicknamed Tiger Woods of Romania. He is member of Dutch Golf Teacher Federation, Member BGA, Member Gecko Tour, Club Fitting, IPE Certificate PGAs of Europe.

15 Testimonials Misu Negritoiu Golf is my passion for over 20 years, almost since Paul Tomita Golf Club was opened at Pianu de Jos. We grew together, with new golf payers generations beside us. Now the golf community in Romania is larger and more mature. But Pianul de Jos was a school and a reference for many of us, old members of the Club. I wish all the best to the Club and I believe in this sport s future. Mihai Tatulici In Romania golf is a secret sport. I don't think more than 1000 persons are practicing it. I wondered why and after analyzing Bulgaria (apparently less developed than our country) and seeing how many golf clubs were built in the past 20 years, I discovered the cause: Bulgarians are more emancipated then us. Sounds weird, isn't it? Seems impossible even. But it's true. And you know why? Because golf is a parameter for evolution. If things are going in the right direction, if you develop tourism, agriculture and infrastructure then you may start playing golf. That is what's happening nowadays in Bulgaria. Of course it's not England or New Zeeland but it started its way towards there...we are stuck waiting our leaders to learn golf. For the moment they don't exist. And if golf can be learned even at 55 years of age (that's when I learned it), then we have no chances the emancipation reaching them. Simply because they are not interested in the future. Therefore the only thing we can do is continue playing golf, those 1000 of us, in order to forget our present. Sad.

16 Local heroes Viorel & Laurentiu Coman For me golf started by chance at Pianu de Jos where I met a man saying he played 8 times at the Professional Golf World Cup. I asked him if it was a joke and, by inviting us in his home at Pianu de Jos, I discovered he was true and in front of me was staying an 80yo person who actually was a treasure and that through him I could discover a world not accessible to us, Romanian golf players, who until then had contact with this sport only via Eurosport TV channel. It was clear this old-man had to be exploited. But how? We had no field, no golf clubs, no balls, nothing... We decided to take lessons on a pasture at the margins of the village. Seeing our interest in golf, old Tomita, a very good professor who noticed after 10 lessons how fast I was progressing, told me: If you ll handle very well this golf club, you ll be able to see the whole world. This is how old Tomita light up the first torch who started to enlighten Romanian golf. What followed was a real miracle. At Pianu de Jos, on a sheep grassland, we projected the first golf course 100% natural, between multi- secular oaks, without the standard infrastructure. Our main principle was Pray to God to give us rain and we ll cut the grass all the time! Little we knew then the nature will do the rest, because where we didn t cut grass, weeds grew and animals came bringing all kind of seeds who later became trees. We did little, Nature or God did the rest! Now this field is state of the art and with a little make-over maybe one of the most beautiful golf courses there are. This meant the start for lots of our co-nationals to notice this wonderful sport and discover that spending time playing golf means life, nature, health and going back to what created us in the first place.
