5 5 Note from the Pro The golf season is winding down, and although the days are getting shorter and there are only a few golf events remaining, there is still a lot of great golf weather ahead. The club will be open on Thanksgiving Day; however we will close at 2:00 pm to allow our staff to partake in family festivities. Additionally, if you are planning on playing on the Friday after Thanksgiving, please make tee times early, as we are expecting to be extremely busy. Don t forget to sign-up for the Turkey Shoot on Nov. 20. The golf committee is currently in the process of creating a new tournament schedule and points system for Although this year s tournament program was successful, we are always looking for suggestions to improve our events. If you have any ideas, please speak with me or one of your golf committee members. Thank you for a successful golf season and I look forward to seeing you on the course enjoying our fall weather and Club activities! Shop hours will be Monday Sunday 7:00 am 5:00 pm during daylight savings. Rules Question of the Month Question: During our Wendy s Invitational Collegiate Tournament this past month we had an interesting rules situation come up during the event. The normal USGA rules were in effect for the tournament including playing the ball as it lies through the green. A player in the field mistakenly thought that a lift, clean and place rule was in effect for the first round of the tournament and was marking, cleaning and replacing her ball for all shots that were in the fairway. The player was made aware that she was in violation of the rules as she made the turn from hole #9 to hole #10. The player stated that she had followed lift, clean and place procedures 1 time on hole #1, 1 time on hole #4, 2 times on hole #5 and 2 times on hole #8. Is there a penalty for the Player? And if so, what is the penalty for this player? Answer located on the next page

According to Rule 13-2, the player is penalized 2 strokes in stroke play for improving the lie of the ball. Also, there is no maximum penalty for breach of this rule and the penalty is applied for every instance that the lie of the ball was improved. 7 7 Pro Shop Patrick Beale Memorial Golf Tourney Donation A check was presented to MUSC Hollings Cancer Center for $10, from proceeds of the Patrick Beale Memorial Golf Tourney at Coosaw Creek Country Club sponsored by Charleston Winnelson Company. This was the sixth annual event. We have raised enough money over the years to be placed on the Honor Donors Board at Hollings. We hope to one day reach the top level. 100% of the proceeds are earmarked for cancer research at our local hospital, which is a National Cancer Institute research facility. This is made possible by the wonderful support of the Coosaw Creek community and Club personnel. Thanks to all, Aubrey Bell Family Tees (Tee it Forward Initiative) The PGA has implemented the Tee it Forward initiative to help golfers enjoy the game as well as to grow the game in an attempt to attract new junior golfers, families and beginning golfers to the game of golf. There is a flyer located at the handicap computer to help golfers identify which tees they should play. Most people already know that we have 3 sets of tees (blue, white and green), but many are unaware that we also offer 3 blended tee options (blue/white, green/ white and green/gold) for golfers to play, as well. Scorecards are available in the proshop to provide tee and handicap information. We have also re-implemented family tees throughout the course. You will see these markers (Gold and Red) located in the fairway to provide adequate starting points for juniors and beginners, as well as for families to come out and play together. Monday is Kids play free day at Coosaw. During Twilight Play (after 3:00 pm), we will also allow juniors under the age of 15 to play for FREE when accompanied by a paying adult. Family tee scorecards are also available in the proshop. Free Junior Clinics have begun every Monday at 4:00 pm for kids 12 and under. Coosaw Creek is also offering Welcome to Golf Clinics to help new golfers get started in the game. These are taking part on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 pm and cost $10 per clinic. Contact the golf shop at to sign up or for more information.

Dick Shaw Golf Committee Chairperson Peggy Beale, Lew Briggs, Jeff Hemphill, Bob Potter, Rick Slagle, Judy Whaley, Rusty Woodall Mike Benner GM/Dir. of Golf LGA Note Is it my imagination or did Sept. & Oct. zoom by as in the blink of an eye? The LGA gals have kept very busy during this time period, playing in Calga, the Men's Blitz, and regular play days. I'd like to personally acknowledge Martha for organizing the "Pink Hat Day." It was a tear-jerking surprise and I was really touched. Thank you Martha. Twelve of us played with the Men's Blitz in a Step-Aside scramble. Eric Williams, Rick Slagle, and Steve Windich organized the day and I think a great time was had by all. Thanks a bunch! Winning Teams: 1 st Flight 1 st place: Mike Ottone, John Bennett, Kit Grave, Tonya Martin 1 st Flight 2 nd place: Al Ross, Mike Sujka, Terri Bell, Dan Svrcek 2nd Flight 1 st place: George Adrian, Jim Deaton, Cheryl Boan, Judy Whaley 2 nd Flight 2 nd place: Von Friend, Bill Cattorini, Judy Hair, Donnita Cook The LGA has done very well the last 2 months at Calga. At Shadowmoss in Sept. Peggy Brinson had OVERALL LOW GROSS for the field with an 85!!!!! I was overall low net for the field with a 65. We also placed another 4 gals in their respective flights: Peggy Beale, Martha, Suzanne Hutchinson & Mary Symuleski. In October we played at Berkley CC. Judy Hair shot an 80 for 1st low gross in the 1st flight, and Terri Bell had an 85 for 2nd low gross! Pretty sporty! Martha had an 86 for 1st Low Gross in the 2nd Flight which was also sporty! Kit Graves, Pat Slagle, Peggy Brinson & Peggy Beale all placed in this same flight! The 4th Flight saw Mary Symuleski as 1st low net, myself as 2nd. Mary Ann Svrcek played in her 1st Calga and as nervous as she was to start, placed 3rd low net. We are looking forward to our annual scramble and pot-luck dinner which will be held Sun. Nov. 6th. Cheryl & Billy Boan have graciously opened their home for dinner & drinks! Let's hope for a sunny Fall Day! In closing, this is the last organized month for LGA play. Our end-of-year luncheon will be held Wed. Nov. 30th after play. And that's that! Judy Whaley, LGA President

11 11 Board of Directors COOSAW CREEK COUNTRY CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS THIRD QUARTER LETTER 2011 The Board of Directors are reminding all Equity Members in good standing that it is seeking candidates for the election of Board Members at the annual meeting to be held in the Clubhouse February 21, Three members will be elected to the Board of Directors at that time for terms ending in Equity Members who have an interest in serving on the board are urged to let their wishes be known as soon as possible. This can be done by contacting a member of the Nominating Committee, any Board Member, Mike Benner, or Karen Vaughn. Candidates will be asked to complete a brief questionnaire outlining their qualifications and their reasons for wanting to serve on the board. Members of the Nominating Committee include: The Chairman Chip Fallon and equity members; Jim Deaton and Rick Slagle. The Waterfowl Committee has had outstanding success as they met several times over the winter and spring and elected to make use of natural methods to make the golf course less inviting for the geese. Vegetation was planted around the 3rd and 15th ponds to reduce the areas of open space at the edges so that geese would be more wary of hidden natural predators. These plantings will continue to spread in the coming years. Homeowners have stopped the feeding of the geese and made the overall habitat less inviting. These efforts coupled with natural migratory patterns reduced the numbers of geese on the course substantially this summer. We will continue to monitor their numbers and add vegetation and other deterrents as necessary going into next year. As a result of the decrease in the number of geese, other more desirable Waterfowl have increased and you now see more ducks and egrets. The Club has been receiving many favorable comments from people playing golf at the Club, especially about the condition of the golf course. Many are saying the course is in the best condition it has been in many years. The Club continues to invest in the maintenance of the course and Club when money is available. It is important the Club and course reflect the 4 Star rating and illustrate that is a premier Country Club. The Club adds to our home values, and reflects the values of the Community. Our green space, golf course, swimming pool and other amenities are strong selling points that assist in the maintenance of our home values in this period of low home values and sales. People that visit have been very impressed in what we have here in Coosaw Creek Country Club and we know all Members are very proud of our Community. It is simply a reflection of the truly great people we have living in Coosaw.

12 12 Board of Directors Home sales continue to be on plan with 20 homes closed through September against a goal of 18 home sales through the Third Quarter of Three additional homes are scheduled to close by the end of October. The Club financials continue to show the Club is being managed efficiently and effectively with good decisions being made for the members. It also demonstrates the efforts of the Club staff to off-set the increases in cost at the Club to meet the budget. The Club is on tract to surpass the 2011 Budget and is now involved in the 2012 budgeting process. Below is a Summary of the Year to date financial results.
