ASGA Fundraiser Special Olympics Bowl-a-Thon Support Team ASGA at Our Special Olympics Fundraiser on April 23 Since we had so much fun the last two years, we re going to support this good cause again. Pleasant (MaryAnn Wenger) Away Weekend- Boyne Highlands (Diane Dziewicki) Don t Be Shy - Support Our Group by Hosting a Golf Event The 2016 Golf Calendar is a work in process, and it has lots of open dates available for your outing. I ask each member to step up and host an outing. Here s the process for hosting an outing: 1. Pick a date or two from the Golf Schedule and contact your favorite golf venue. It s typically cheaper to book tee times after 1:00pm. Not always a good time, but worth asking about. 2. Negotiate the best rate possible with the course. Please run all details by the Golf Chair prior to signing any contract. If a deposit is required, we can also assist with this. 3. The Golf Chair will announce the date approximately 5-6 weeks prior to event via to the membership. 4. Collect your monies, designate any CTP contests, etc., and arrange pairings prior to outing date. 5. Arrange after golf dinner either at course if available or off-site. Prepare simple accounting report of outing and submit to Treasurer. The golf chair and/or any member of the board can help answer questions or at least point you in the right direction. So! Attending a Multi-Chapter Event? Also if anyone is thinking about participating in a multi-chapter event out of state, please let me know. I ll send a notice to the membership so that anyone else thinking about participating can share arrangements. 3 CHAIRMAN Greetings from sunny Pinehurst, North Carolina, the golf capital of the world! It seems like everyone lives on a golf course down here. I attended the local ASGA group and believe it or not, I actually went golfing. We played the Southern Pines Course, one of the oldest courses in Southern Pines, designed by Donald Ross Ready Golf My adventure brings to mind one of his statements, "Golf should be a pleasure, not a penance". A round that lasts more than 4 1/2 hours does not follow his philosophy. Let s keep the 19th hole for socializing, and do our best to play ready golf. David s ball came to rest about 2 feet right of the 150 yard distance marker on # 5. David walked over to remove the marker, only to discover that it was fixed and immovable. He then declared that he would take relief as the marker interfered with his stance. Larry said that was not permissible, reasoning that you don t get relief from a tree that interferes with your stance; neither should you get relief from a distance marker. What is the correct ruling? A. David was correct. The distance marker was a non movable obstruction. He was entitled to relief because the non movable obstruction interfered with his stance. B. Larry was correct. Just because something makes your stance difficult, doesn't mean you get relief. The correct answer: A. David gets relief. Rule 24-2a and the definition of obstruction and immovable obstruction apply. An obstruction is anything that is artificial. A marker is artificial, a tree is not. Had the marker been movable, David could have moved it out of the way. Since it was not movable it was in fact an immovable obstruction. Rule 24-2a allows that a golfer is entitled to relief from an immovable obstruction when it interferes with stance or area of intended swing. LEGAL STUFF RELEASE FROM LIABILITY AND EXPRESS ASSUMPTION OF RISK: I, the undersigned Applicant (hereinafter referred to as Releasor ), in consideration of being permitted to participate in golf activities organized or sponsored by ASGA, Inc., d/b/a American Singles Golf Association, a Delaware Corporation, or its affiliate chapters in the United States and Canada, (the Releasees ) and other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency is hereby acknowledged, hereby on behalf of myself and my heirs, distributees, guardians, and legal representatives agree to fully indemnify, defend, hold harmless, and not to sue Releasees and/or Releasee s directors, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates from and on account of any and all past, present, and future claims, debts, causes of action, damages, personal injuries, wrongful deaths, property loss, and property damage (including attorney s fees and costs relative thereto), whether due or not, direct or contingent, liquidated or unliquidated, latent or patent, known or unknown, which in any way concern or relate to any act or omission of Releasees. Except in the event of any gross and willful negligence, I shall bring no claims, demands, actions and causes of action, and/or litigation, against Releasees for any economic and non-economic losses due to bodily injury, death, property damage, sustained by me in relation to the premises and operations of the golf course, including riding on golf carts or playing the game of golf. I am aware that participation in and/or observance of the golf activities and/or other activities sponsored by Releasees is or may be an inherently dangerous activity and may have health-related risks, and agree that I am voluntarily participating in and/or observing such activities with full knowledge of all dangers and risks involved. In addition, I hereby expressly assume all risks of injury, death, property loss, property damage, and other loss and damage which my occur relative to the participation in and/or observance of such activities. I understand and agree that this Release includes any and all claims based on the past, present and future ordinary negligence, action, and/or inaction of Releasees and/or Releasee s directors, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates.
