JIM S JOURNAL NOVEMBER 3 RD, 2018 RACE #1 4 IN VIEW 1 SILENT JET 2 KING OF THE COURT 6 GOLD STING SILENT JET was going along quite nicely with performances here last season as a two year old then experimented with the turf at Gulfstream and hasn t been able to get his progress back; a race here in the spring on Tapeta at a route saw him falter by a wide margin; he has trained regularly coming back to this race as a gelding. KING OF THE COURT had an improved race for Gord Colbourne September 16 th and also raced well October 21 st at six and a half furlongs which makes him a consideration here. STUDIO B is one of two in the race for Mike De Paulo along with, Silent Jet; he was on turf October 16 th at seven furlongs and he finished just on the edges when he had a tough trip; he now comes to Tapeta. IN VIEW raced six and a half furlongs quite well off the shelf October 21 st, and was rallying nicely but the winner blew right by him leaving him in second spot; he can contend on a repeat. DOWNY BOY has been in the money in three consecutive events and handled Tapeta well enough at six furlongs two starts ago and turf at seven furlongs last time; he goes seven furlongs on Tapeta here; he can contend. GOLD STING had an unusually dull effort when he dropped down September 21 st but he had an improved effort first time off the claim for Jim Ensom on turf last outing; he now moves over to Tapeta. PRIMARY SURPLUS was forced to scratch at the beginning of September and has not been a factor in either race since then. RACE #2 1 TALLIEVISION 7 MISSY CRISSY 8 KISS THE PRINCESS 5 LOVIN SPOON PHIL TALLIEVISION had a booming rally in mid stretch to put away the speed and win for the fourth time on grass last time; she should be a strong factor here on turf but if the race comes off grass her status will lessen. SAYYESTOXCELENCE has lost by wide margins in recent events towards the end of her current campaign. CONQUER THE SKY is a two time winner on turf but has no wins in recent seasons; she was on the edges in a recent Tapeta sprint and will now attempt nine furlongs on turf. WOLVERINA S WILLA is without current momentum on turf and finished far behind, Tallievision, last time. LOIN SPOON PHIL has yet to hit the board in three races on turf but handles herself well enough on Tapeta; she dropped down trying to ensure a score last time where she was beaten less than a length and, Missy Crissy, was second; she goes off the claim for Steven Chircop. REBEL LIONESS was in for $6,000 last time and handled herself quite well with a smart late rally from far back to be third against a front runner; she looks for her first win on turf. MISSY CRISSY looks to be well situated whether this race stays on grass or goes on Tapeta; she handled the turf quite well three starts ago and last time had a wake up run on Tapeta where she tried to steal away on the last turn over a surface more helpful to closing types; she was caught at the end by another rank outsider and she finished second. KISS THE PRINCESS competed at home at Presque Isle last time out October 4 th and made a rush to catch the speed late in the stretch but she was out finessed by another rallier right on the money; she comes in for Ron Potts. RACE #3 3 RIKER 4 LOVE THAT LUTE 7 SILENT CONTEMPT 2 WORBOTHOR CAT ZAPPER is without a win in recent times but mounts a rally occasionally and that was the case back on August 4 th when he was closest for the campaign; he was fourth against, Riker, last time. WORBOTHOR comes in from Presque Isle and has visited here in the past; he won there last time at five and a half furlongs with a smart rally for his third score of a busy campaign; his challenge here in the seven furlong distance. RIKER looked to be a transformed individual October 8 th who instead of fuelling the pace ignored the front end until late and came with a rushing move to win it all at 17-1; he is back in another starter event at a half furlong farther and looks to be a contender once again. LOVE THAT LUTE has had to work hard for his four race winning streak and won just narrowly last time; the runner up has come back to be second for $15,000; among his wins this year was a score at seven furlongs back in September and he will be stretching out to that distance here. SUMERIAN BELL is without a win after eight trips this season and was only fifth last time in a near impossible spot at 37-1; Kimura takes over in this spot. VIRGA attracted a claim for $19,000 from a narrow loss two starts ago on turf; the fourth place finisher has won; he went off to Fort Erie last time to compete against just four other rivals and confusingly he did not get out of the gate effectively and finished last; this will be his second race following the claim and Hernandez rides. SILENT CONTEMPT put together quite a string of victories earlier this season at low levels then attracted a claim and moved into first allowance company where his initial try on turf was good but a second attempt left him near the back; he meets more reachable opposition here following that last complete letdown.

JIM S JOURNAL NOVEMBER 3 RD, 2018 RACE #4 3 FURIOUSLY FAST 1 BLUE EYED GIRL 9 PEARL HEIST 4 TAY TOWN BLUE EYED GIRL a homebred for Bruce Lunsford is by Kentucky Derby winner, Super Saver, and from an, Awesome Again, dam who did win a significant race; her prep October 13 th on the training track in 58.3 is an obvious fast move and the stable did have another recent representative who ran well who had worked in a similar time; Husbands has the mount for Barbara Minshall. SAM N CAT a debut runner for Cinnamont Stable was an auction purchase and is by, Tale Of The Cat, and is a New York bred; Wilson has been aboard in the morning and was up for a work October 13 th in FURIOUSLY FAST debuts for Live Oak Plantation and is by the popular, Violence, and has been traded at auction; she goes here for Mark Casse at just five furlongs and worked in similar times in back to back works in the middle of October in getting ready. TAY TOWN competes for one of Canada s productive breeders, Charles F. Fipke; this one is a homebred by the Grade 1 winner, Jersey Town, and is from the same dam who produced the local performer, Perfect Tay, an eight time winner; she has been prepared at Fort Erie by Michaela Neubauer. BIG MAMBA a debut runner is a homebred for Joey Gee Thoroughbreds being prepared by Francine Villeneuve; she is a daughter of, Colonel John, and worked October 20 th in hg getting ready; Moran was aboard for a comeback work from the pole in ADABEL a debut runner for Jim Ensom is from the same dam who produced, Petrov, a good money maker; this one had a quick work from the gate in early October and prepped again from the gate October 25 th getting ready in 48.4bg and Kimura rides. AWESOME DRILL a debut runner for Jamie Attard is by, Drill, a Grade 1 winner as a juvenile and this one is from a dam who was a three time sprint winner; she had some speed in an October 28 th work in 48.1 getting ready. DATA PRINCESS a second representative here for Mark Casse is by, Data Link, a Grade 1 winner on turf; she worked five furlongs October 21 st getting ready and has since sharpened from the gate and Lermyte rides. PEARL HEIST a homebred for Steve McDonald is by, Graydar, a Grade 1 winner on dirt and from a dam who liked the grass; she has confined her activities to shorter preps including a three furlong work October 28 th in 35.4; she comes from the widest post for Darwin Banach. RACE #5 8 AUNTIE KATHERINE 6 MISS ARTIE DECO 7 GEORGIA SWEETS 1 EASY BID EASY BID quite likes the turf and although she must go back up in value here after a fringe try sprinting on Tapeta, getting onto the grass should help. LIGHT IT UP has been on turf in consecutive events but had a poor result last time; she takes the big drop. COURT TIME will be getting her first chance on turf after a wide loss on Tapeta last time; she is by, Court Vision, a good source of turf production; she now moves to the stable of Randy Thompson who has just returned. GABBY S BALLERINA was bothered at the break by the second place finisher last time and finally finished far behind; she had a much better race on turf at Fort Erie the time before. SUGAR ME SWEET will be taking a sharp drop down in value; two starts ago she was on the edges for $19,000 but was demoted for interference; a comeback race at an even higher level was a double digit loss; she drops sharply. MISS ARTIE DECO was forced to scratch September 28 th and will be making her way back at a radically lower level here for just $12,500; she ran a strong race on turf August 19 th when she closed a good gap for $32,000; she indicates recent preps. GEORGIA SWEETS looks like she can contend; she closed belatedly on turf for $20,000 and then dropped down to compete on Tapeta where she was in the runner up spot both times; she looks capable of scaling up a bit to get back on turf. AUNTIE KATHERINE steadied on the backstretch last time and was in tight through the lane but kept trying for $25,000 on turf and finished fourth; she now goes for $12,500 for a chance to get on turf late in the season. SHOW ME THE PRIZE gave away some value to get down for $9,500 to run on turf September 22 nd but didn t produce and was a fading fifth on Tapeta last time.

JIM S JOURNAL NOVEMBER 3 RD, 2018 RACE #6 11 GAMBLE S GHOST 3 GIADA VEGAS 4 EMPRESSOF THE NILE 10 BLETCHLEY PAMINA is one of two entered for trainer Michael Dickinson for Augustin Stable and this one was close up in Chicago in August on turf when making the lead prematurely only to finish second; most recently at Kentucky Downs, she opted for a speed approach against the winner and lost that up front fight; this will be her first try on Tapeta although she does train on it. LIFT UP has handled a synthetic surface well enough in the past and was third in the La Lorgnette here last year; she campaigned on Tapeta at Presque Isle last time out along with a couple of others in here and managed to beat the speed but the winner came from last to win it all and she was finally second; she is from a strong family top and bottom; she competes for Michael Dickinson. GIADA VEGAS missed the break when she campaigned here off the shelf September 9 th and then went to Presque Isle last time where she got behind early but closed up to be not far behind the runner up, Lift Up; she has come home to train here for Dixiana Farms and Mark Casse. EMPRESSOF THE NILE competes for William Clifton Jr. and is brought in by H. James Bond; she is a two time winner in her career but is without a score this season; she campaigned in an ultimate key race earlier in the year in the Grade 2 New York Stakes when beaten only six lengths by some of the best in the division; a comeback race in August left her just on the edges; Hernandez rides. MYTHICAL MISSION a homebred for Sam-Son Farm took her initial stakes win in August at Mountaineer and came close at Laurel last time against a longshot front runner as she closed strongly; she has handled the synthetic surface here fine in the past. NOT TAKEN competed at Presque Isle last time in a race where the top six seemed to be tightly bunched and she was eighth beaten three lengths and, Lift Up, was second; she is seeking her initial share of the year and comes to Tapeta for the second time in her career. A. A. AZULA S ARCH is a nicely developing three year old filly who handles Tapeta just fine; she was overwhelmed by the slow pace structure last time as she closed smartly late against anther three year old who won; she has come back to train well. TRINI BREWNETTE is using a more mature style this year with positive results including a restricted stakes win two starts ago and a recent close up finish; she has embarked on some nice prepping heading to this race. SUMMER LUCK was able to win at Kentucky Downs two starts ago and capture a nice pot, yet, when she came here for the Grade 1 E. P. Taylor the slow pace structure seemed to be beyond her and she never engaged; she has come back to work here on Tapeta and now discovers that footing under race terms. BLETCHLEY came close here in the Grade 2 Nassau in the spring; she was in the Grade 2 Canadian last time and kept going along the inside in a big effort; she now discovers Tapeta under race terms. GAMBLE S GHOST is a ten time winner on the synthetic surface here; she has eked out three narrow victories in stakes events and must endure a two pound weight penalty and carry significantly more than everyone else at 126 lbs.; she had her main work for this October 18 th in for Ivan Dalos and Josie Carroll. RACE #7 8 SILENT EMISSARY 10 GOLDEN EXCHANGE 12 HIDDEN ARTIFACT 3 WHERE S THE GOLD DIVINE AMI has lost by wide margins in consecutive events and was at Fort Erie last time; the blinkers are back on after a one race absence. WALL STREET WOLF usually takes plenty of support but hasn t won in recent years; for $10,000 last time he after being engaged in a duel that was too fast; he finished fourth; he rates some attention and Wilson now rides. WHERE S THE GOLD attracted a claim for $10,000 three starts ago and after a wasted try in a key race he came back down to his claimed price last time and ran an acceptable race with a move from far on the outside to run third at seven furlongs; he travels six furlongs here. SHANTELLE S CHANCE came off the shelf October 20 th and had early speed only then retreated. TRUST IN SILVER attracted a claim and moved up to a first allowance race on turf September 29 th and was unable to threaten and that was the case again last time; he now returns to the price for which he was claimed with a shift back to Tapeta. FIERY BEAR dropped in for $6,250 last time and finished third at long odds against a key winner and attracted a claim. AWSOME MOI went somewhat better last time when dropped in for $6,250 and made a run in mid stretch and was finally fifth. SILENT EMISSARY took the big drop October 13 th and was a big disappointment; he was used up chasing the hot favourite from the Casse stable who won it and he retreated late; he deserves one more chance at this reduced evaluation where his middle speed may have more of an impact. GAMBLE S CITIZEN came off the shelf July 29 th and had a poor result on turf and finished even farther back on Tapeta last time; he has been freshened and now drops sharply. GOLDEN EXCHANGE has a rare commodity in this field and that is the ability to stay on; he was second last time for $10,000 at five furlongs and has indicated a capacity to run this distance well enough. POINT OF ORDER went from a route to a seven furlong race last time and received a perfect winning ride camping behind rivals then moving out for the stretch drive to secure the win; he goes up in value and shortens in distance. HIDDEN ARTIFACT is certainly one to consider given the way he won last time with a two length romp; blinkers were added for that and he beat the favourite; with Hernandez committing to, Silent Emissary, Da Silva will substitute here. KENTUCKY CHARM won the final day of the Fort Erie meeting with front end speed at 2-5 and was much the best; he will look to transfer that enthusiasm to Tapeta.

JIM S JOURNAL NOVEMBER 3 RD, 2018 RACE #8 9 MR HAVERCAMP 5 DECORATED SOLDIER 2 FLORIDA WON 3 GIGANTIC BREEZE LOOKIN FOR EIGHT was a winner of the Durham Cup at nine furlongs beating, Florida Won, and he wanted the lead immediately and took it from that rival and was able to steal away in the latter stages; he draws the rail with Lermyte for Gary Barber, John Oxley and Ralph Kinder. FLORIDA WON competes for Bruno Schickedanz and is a three time stakes winner and is one of three runners in here to have captured the Presque Isle Mile along with, Gigantic Breeze, and, Decorated Soldier; in the Durham Cup, Lookin For Eight, took the early lead away from him and he chased that one throughout in second. GIGANTIC BREEZE is winless for the year but had such a bountiful campaign last season; he was second here in the Seagram behind, Decorated Soldier, in August and after a slow start was a closing fifth beaten two and a half lengths to, Decorated Soldier, in the Presque Isle Mile; he has been working here with Kimura aboard in the morning for Hopefield Farm and Sandy McPherson. LOOKIN TO STRIKE competes for Gary Barber and Mark Casse and won the Ontario Derby when doubling up last time; he guarded the lead against his rallying mate in that event; he did have some flair late in his work October 27 th in 50b DECORATED SOLDIER is now a three time stakes winner after his score in the Seagram at the expense of, Gigantic Breeze, and Florida Won, and then in the Presque Isle Mile last time; he got first run at a lone leader then held off the bid of the runner up who had captured that rich event previously; he competes for Racer s Edge and Maxis Stable for Norm McKnight. ARE YOU KIDDING ME stalled on the turn in the Seagram and that ushered in a freshening period; he makes his way back here for Riordan, Kirk and Bates for Roger Attfield and Hernandez rides; he did win this race in consecutive years earlier in his distinguished career. SHAKHIMAT is looking for his first win of the year and ran a good race in the King Edward at a mile to be in the runner up spot but in the Seagram he pressed the pace at too fast a clip and understandably faded; he worked recently in company with, Are You Kidding Me, going well in with Wilson aboard. GIANT STORM overcame a slow pace to win yet again last time as he beat a familiar rival; two starts ago he had been second behind, Lookin To Strike, who came out of that race to win the Ontario Derby; he competes for Calico Racing and Gary McMaster for Norm McKnight. MR HAVERCAMP a homebred for Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry has stepped away from Ontario sire races to run second in the Grade 2 Play The King at seven furlongs on turf and then run second in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile which featured a strong late pace where published times indicate a final quarter in 21.3; he chased, Oscar Performance, thoroughly; he has been freshened and now comes to Tapeta a footing he has handled well enough in the past for Catherine Day-Phillips. RACE #9 5 WALKABOUT CREEK - BEST BET 2 CHILL 3 ESCONDERA 8 STORMFUHR REMEMBERMIS came off the shelf September 22 nd to travel a mile on grass for $20,000 against multiple winners and stalked in behind traffic then got out in the open for the stretch drive and rushed to be in second spot; the fourth place finisher has come back to win; he must run shorter against more high velocity rivals. CHILL got a yielding turf October 6 th in a first allowance race and made a bid on the outside but hung deeper in the stretch as the heavy favourite while, Walkabout Creek, was in second; he figures to get the same kind of give to the turf today but perhaps he can recapture some of his good earlier form. ESCONDERA was on a yielding turf course when moved up to this level last time and he was chasing inside on the turn but went flat in the lane when, Walkabout Creek, was second. CONQUEROR GALACTUS was a winner on turf two starts ago for $40,000 and dropped in for $20,000 last time to ensure a victory and dissolve an owner/trainer combination; he was scooped up by, Joey Gee Thoroughbreds; he jumps to a first allowance race. WALKABOUT CREEK got some confidence when he moved over to turf to campaign September 16 th and he stayed on well for a victory; most recently in a first allowance race on turf, he took over but was beaten by a late closer and settled for second with some of these in behind him; he now adds blinkers which should have him quite focused for a run on the pace. POLAR LIGHT loves the front end and ran off in front September 16 th for a maiden score at seven furlongs on grass; he was chasing a pace that proved to be too quick in the middle stages last time and he went flat on Tapeta at a route but now he gets back sprinting on turf; Walkabout Creek, also has speed. SILENT JIMMIE competed at a mile on turf last time at this level and moved far on the outside with a late rush to be fifth only two lengths back and the tenth place finisher has since come back to score; he goes shorter. STORMFUHR has been trying to build momentum in works; he comes off the shelf for Mike Mattine now as a gelding and will once again sprint on turf.

JIM S JOURNAL NOVEMBER 3 RD, 2018 RACE #10 5 STREET REVIEW 6 CHILLING SECRET 10 EMPEROR JOHN 2 GINGER SKY NIGHT WATCHMAN ran a thorough enough race three starts ago at the beginning of September when second in this category to be recommended; since that time he has been outrun on turf and then had an excusable trip for $10,000 last time where he was a delayed third. GINGER SKY had some positive Tapeta form earlier in the year; the blinkers were on for his Breeders Stakes try and since that time he has been out of the money against difficult opponents; he departs out of the money finishes on turf and drops sharply for $20,000 and Hernandez stays right with him. RED KITE attracted a claim at Churchill Downs September 27 th and is here for about double the price after that faltering performance; he had run better on the synthetic surface in Chicago earlier and is here for a try on Tapeta for Michael Ewing. MAKEMINEAMANHATTAN was part of a speed approach on turf for $20,000 last time where the fractions were scorching and that set it up for the closers; he had run on Tapeta the time before landing on the edges in a race that gives him standing here for only $20,000. STREET REVIEW a newcomer to Woodbine seemed to benefit enough from his lone work over Tapeta to run well on the surface October 21 st ; he gained inside and then persisted through the stretch for maiden $16,000 with the element of surprise working nicely for him; he fronted a $6,000 payoff in the Hi 5 exotic; he now tries non winners of two. CHILLING SECRET dropped in for $20,000 last time and opted to be an aggressive part of the pace with two others; no one seemed to be gaining until very late stretch when the winner displaced him; he is back under the same terns. COOLSHADE couldn t keep up two starts ago with the runner up, Chilling Secret, and has since been unplaced on turf. TISHINA was in against, Chilling Secret, last time and was driving on the turn trying to improve his position and advanced gradually in the lane to be fourth just a half length behind, Miracle Silver, the third place finisher. MIRACLE SILVER competed against some of these two starts ago and ran well just behind the runner up, Chilling Secret; he has since gone to turf where he chased a pace that was much too fast along with two others and that set it up for the top three closers. EMPEROR JOHN seemed to get some momentum back last time when competing in this category but he was part of the pace trio along with, Chilling Secret, that set it up for a come from behind winner; blinkers are on today and he has been busy in morning preps. RACE #11 14 PAXOS 2 LOOKIN AT MATTEO 6 KUCHEROV 12 FOXY B 11 JAIL TIME SOUL N SPIRIT was moving late on the outside for $8,000 at seven furlongs last time to end fourth with, Gunner Ben, in second; he goes shorter with Fukumoto aboard. LOOKIN AT MATTEO moved away from Tapeta to turf last time and became engaged with three others in a non productive pace battle and he faltered to be eleventh; perhaps the speed he showed on Tapeta in his previous two events will help carry him at this radically reduced level. GUNNER BEN was put on the pace at seven furlongs for $7,500 last time with a bump up in value and he was generous on Tapeta finishing second at DISPUTED BID was in for $12,500 at a route last time when he made a move from the inside to go two wide and finally finished fifth beaten three lengths; he has had interim prepping and now the blinkers are on. FIRST VICTORY dropped sharply for $8,000 at seven furlongs last time with Kimura aboard and he desperately tried to sit off the duelling pacemakers but then faded in the stretch. KUCHEROV competed at six furlongs for $7,500 last time and was used for speed but was finally beaten by a late closer, Hidden Artifact, who was entered in race seven today; he can be a factor on a repeat but there are other speed items in here. DREAM OF SHANTELLE carried his speed better at five furlongs at Fort Erie two starts ago than he did at six furlongs in slop last time when he faded out of the money; he has been working on Tapeta trying to build some momentum and lasix is added. CEPELINAS was dedicated to the Fort Erie meeting for five consecutive starts there and was most recently out of the money for $6,250; he seeks his initial share on Tapeta. JE SUIS CHARLIE backed away abruptly from an early pace battle for $7,500. CRUZIN CALVIN dropped down and departed turf and went to Tapeta last time where he advanced from tenth to be sixth beaten six lengths but he couldn t make any headway deep in the stretch against the runner up, Kucherov. JAIL TIME has been giving up positions deep in the stretch while remaining competitive; when he dropped for $8,000 at five furlongs last time he was within range a furlong from home then finally finished sixth after traveling too quickly in the middle stages. FOXY B got first run at the lead two starts ago in a five furlong race but the winner came outside and beat him at the last moment; most recently at six furlongs he stayed willingly in fourth and, Kucherov, was the runner up. BARTMAN was last in the early going when racing for $8,000 last time and he was finally a non threatening fourth at low odds when, Kucherov, was second; he has had interim prepping. PAXOS debuted September 30 th at six and a half furlongs for $16,000 and was heavily bet; he was placed right on the pace and fatigued only late; he runs a shorter distance at a lower level for Bruno Schickedanz and Norm McKnight. HIT MAKER debuted at Presque Isle without threatening and came here October 17 th and was without prominence early then passed a few runners without threatening. I SE DUBAI advanced inside last time to be third for $7,500 about two lengths behind the runner up, Kucherov, who is here.
