JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 14 TH, 2018 RACE #1 4 STRIKE IT ROYAL 5 WILD N READY 3 FOXXY BELLE 6 MERCURIAL JUNGLE ROSE was transferred for a single race September 1 st on Tapeta and after that underachieving performance she has been switched again this time to the Martin Hinckson stable; she has posted a couple of fancy recent works and races with the blinkers on while rediscovering the grass. ONE FOR NICKI has competed on Tapeta at short distances and closed in her opener despite being bothered; second time out she wasn t effective; she worked well on turf with Sutherland aboard September 22 nd in 49 and goes to the grass and has plenty of support from her pedigree. FOXXY BELLE was on turf for the second time September 8 th and had every chance to guard the lead through the stretch but was beaten by a runner competing for the claiming price and she settled for second; she goes back up to a tougher level. STRIKE IT ROYAL was called to win when she debuted September 15 th but another Sam-Son runner in from Maryland at 2-1 proved much the best and this one settled for second at much longer odds; she figures to take the bulk of the support because of the evidence of that good opening race. WILD N READY was heavily favoured to win September 15 th and chased the pace up close but the winner in from Saratoga was too difficult and, Strike It Royal, beat this one about a length for second money; she opted to draft in traffic in that event in hopes of being more thorough in the stretch but she seemed to hang once more. MERCURIAL a grey horse of significant proportions, will debut here at just a short distance on turf; she is bred for the grass for Pin Oak Stables and worked on turf September 29 th in for Malcolm Pierce; Da Silva rides. VIVACITAS drafted behind rivals on turf at seven furlongs last time and weakened; she will shorten back in distance and has had interim prepping for Roger Attfield. RACE #2 7 PLACE THE BLAME 3 ESSENTIAL 2 ATIYA 5 FLOATING RATE D S MULLIGAN campaigned for just $9,500 at six furlongs last time and while she finished fourth at the rate she was progressing in deep stretch she soon was going to be the runner up; she comes right back at the same distance but at a higher price. ATIYA had speed on turf two starts ago; when she dropped down and went to Tapeta last time she took sharp support but unfortunately got shuffled back three furlongs from home and that seemed to exclude her from contention; blinkers might make a difference here and certainly the cheaper price is inviting. ESSENTIAL is getting her first start since September of 2017 when she suddenly hit a soft spot in her form with a double digit loss; she had raced so well the time before in August of 2017; she is making her way back here for Nick Gonzalez at a significantly reduced evaluation with Wilson aboard. GALS GOT RHYTHM wasn t effective last time but showed some life right at the end when sixth of nine. FLOATING RATE had trouble staying on course September 8 th ; with a drop last time again on turf she had runoff speed that proved to be ineffective and long shots dominated; getting down in value is a big help and she switches to Tapeta. ONLY ESSA like others in here was out of the money on turf last time and now comes over to Tapeta; she was long odds in that low level event where she failed to threaten. PLACE THE BLAME has had many chances and has squandered them all; she had an excusable journey in behind rivals last time trying to save up for the stretch run but a late gain was not evident; the drop certainly helps and she now moves to Tapeta; Campbell takes over at this lower level. JULIE S TAP DANCER debuted September 22 nd at enormous odds and showed little in that event; she comes down sharply for this second start. FACT CHECKING was given the call to win last time as she departed turf and went to Tapeta with a drop; she did wake up and run second at long odds but the winner who was debuting was much the best. RACE #3 6 MARTEN LAKE 2 FOREST BROTHER 4 STORMY RUSH 7 GOODOLDHOCKEYGAME RED FEVER was a close fourth on turf two starts ago when, Marten Lake, was the winner; HE was only sixth on Tapeta from an inside post last time when, Marten Lake, was also the winner; he comes up tagged. FOREST BROTHER had a resounding first allowance win August 12 th first time off the claim for Norm McKnight; most recently such a slow pace developed that it was difficult closing at, Marten Lake, who always had better pace positioning and this one was a game second; Hernandez rides for Norm McKnight in this spot and meets up again with, Marten Lake, a subsequent winner. SILENT FLASH is getting his first start since the middle of August when it was obvious that weaker form was setting in; he has had a series of works building up to this return for Mike Doyle. STORMY RUSH encountered such a blistering early pace last time that he opted to use a rating tactic once he couldn t establish himself on the pace; he was finally fifth in that key race from which the second and third place finishers have come back to win; he had a rare win at the expense of, Marten Lake, two starts ago on Tapeta.

JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 14 TH, 2018 PUNTROOSKIE is without a win in recent times and has been hanging in contention; he met a key winner last time and after a perfect trip he hung; he is taking a rather significant drop to go for only $40,000 as he seeks a breakthrough on turf. MARTEN LAKE has been hogging the top prizes lately in starter events; in his latest he proved to be just as fast as the proposed front runner, Slip Kid, and put that one away under perfect handling from Kimura; with Kimura aboard once again it eases what would have been a lofty weight impost here. GOODOLDHOCKEYGAME showed plenty of determination September 14 th but was out of control through the stretch after he bore out and the rider lost his whip; he fought it out to the end for a narrow victory but the result was inevitable; he was placed second; he has since prepped from the gate to get ready. SPRINGHOUSE is still on the comeback trail; he will now drop sharply and go to a claiming race in search of his third lifetime victory; Moran once again has the mount. RACE #4 7 BOYHOOD DREAM - BEST BET 3 NIGHT WATCHMAN 5 DERBY REBEL 10 GIANT MINE HYTHE went down in value for a couple of races but there was no significant improvement; he did stay on ok last time; he is back up in value here and moves from a sprint to a route. RARE APPEAL went from a sprint to a route last time but after staying close to the pace could not threaten late. NIGHT WATCHMAN had a wide loss September 23 rd and has shown that type of form in the past followed by a positive comeback in the very next race; it was just two starts ago that he ran so strongly on Tapeta for $19,000 finishing second at this distance. KITTEN S DILEMMA was close by in the middle of July at a route but two subsequent races left him out of the money and he has been freshened. DERBY REBEL got down to the $8,000 mark to score a wake up win and money showed for him; he has been protected in two subsequent starts and has maintained positive form; he now comes back down in value. SLAM has been a fringe player over several races without a win this year; for $9,500 last time he fought hard to win the show photo for his second in the money finish this year. BOYHOOD DREAM is the big question mark in the race; his form off the shelf September 8 th at a route was ok as he finished fourth against a key winner; he now comes in for just $9,500 for Michael Maker. DANCING WITH ZORRO opened up last time for maiden $11,500 when going from an out of the money finish on turf to Tapeta and he scored at tiny odds with Kimura aboard; he keeps the mount here against non winners of two; the spot is made more difficult because of a devaluation of other contenders. TRACK THAT ECHO was forced to scratch September 29 th and will make his way back here for the first time since September 9 th when he took a maiden win for $9,500 using a better off the pace technique. GIANT MINE took the big drop for $10,000 last time and money showed for him and he ran adequately in fourth beaten five lengths; he had won for $12,500 to take an initial win in August; he rates a look. RACE #5 4 JUST LIKE LARRY 9 COMBATIVE 3 NOBLE HOPE 1 CERRADO CERRADO had post one in his debut on turf and ran ok when fifth beaten five lengths by the difficult, Nashtrick, while, Just Like Larry, was second; both the first and third place finishers came back to run well in the Summer Stakes; he came back in the Summer Stakes and again drew post one and got lost in the shuffle down the backstretch. OUR UNCLE DREW was wacked at the break by a rival and became unsettled offering some early speed; he finished out of the money; he is hoping for a progressive trip here. NOBLE HOPE a debut runner is a homebred for Robert S. Evans by the very well bred and accomplished, Noble Mission, and is from the same dam who produced, White Flag, who was third here in the Nearctic and second in the rich, Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint; he will go to turf at first asking and worked September 30 th on the grass in for Roger Attfield. JUST LIKE LARRY was third in his debut in a nice offering but he gave up the lead late; second time out when again lasix free, he finished second behind a key winner; the third place finisher came back to do well in the Summer Stakes; he scratched from the Cup & Saucer and will go to this maiden contest with lasix added. LUCKY STREET a debut runner for successful interests is trained by Mike De Paulo and is from a dam who has already produced a couple of turf winners; he has had a variety of positive preps getting ready including a work on a giving turf back in August when he stayed quite well. D MAGICIAN is by, Magician, a distinct turf influence; he debuted on Tapeta and was intent on rushing to the lead and was too spent; perhaps that event will be a means to an end with the hopeful shift to grass here. BRUTUS failed to get any positive positioning in his debut September 23 rd but he made his way forward late to get the show award when, Combative, was seven and a half lengths better in second; he is a logical one to go to turf for Stronach Stables. SEEMEE a homebred for Brian Cullen is from his own dam, Shilla who was a three time stakes winner; this one is by, Verrazano, and he visited Royal Ascot to run well and can be a turf influence; he worked on grass September 30 th going ok in 48.1bg; he did have a good work from the gate September 23 rd for Kevin Attard in hg. COMBATIVE stayed off the early pace from the rail position in his debut September 23 rd ; he rallied to the lead but couldn t contain a closer at the end who was also debuting and he settled for second; he now goes over to turf for Mark Casse in this second start for John Oxley.

JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 14 TH, 2018 RACE #6 1 GLAMANATION 5 WIN THE WAR 4 JEAN ELIZABETH 7 BINT HUWAAR GLAMANATION a stakes winner earlier in her career switched to the stable of Norm McKnight for a run August 12 th on turf in the Wonder Where and that event did not prove to be suitable for her; she came back in a first allowance run against older rivals September 23 rd and was given a patient ride behind rivals by Hernandez; she found room in the stretch and showed significant strength to quicken away and win it; she has lots of speed to run at here. DEVINE MISCHIEF has campaigned only this year but has been productive with three wins; he is here specifically looking for an unrestricted stakes score; she comes in from Kentucky for Joe Sharp and Breeze Easy LLC and is working with a strong pedigree being a full sister to, Vicar s In Trouble,; she used a stalking style to win at Charles Town two starts ago with a precise rally as the heavy favourite and there is speed to run at here. MISS SAVVY built strong form earlier in the year with her outstanding speed; her form slipped against key allowance runners and most recently, she was on the edges on turf even though she couldn t reach the lead; she has the speed of, Jean Elizabeth, to deal with here. JEAN ELIZABETH has made the lead in each of her nine races and has won six of them; she did win a restricted stake early in the year but is here to win a wide open event; she has a knack for competing on synthetic surface given her successes in Chicago; at Churchill Downs in slop last time she set the pace and missed narrowly to the top two ralliers; she comes in for high percentage trainer, Larry Rivelli who already has a winner at the meet. WIN THE WAR was here August 11 th for the Duchess Stakes which attracted a small field and she had only three rivals to beat on that occasion and managed to win a pace fight; she worked in the stretch to maintain the advantage; she has since had a poor race on dirt at Saratoga and now comes back to more friendly confines for Mark Casse. RAVINIA was a maiden winner recently with an aggressive stalking trip and enough support in the home lane to get up; she will encounter a hot pace here but is a developing type. BINT HUWAAR has had a couple of starts at Meydan and three starts in North America this year; at Presque Isle last time in a first allowance race she did not break well and could not find room until very late and then made it close against the front runner winner, Alexandra Kay, who is here; she comes in for Brendan Walsh and has been training at Churchill Downs. ALEXANDRA KAY comes in for Kevin Rice and Rice Racing; she is here looking for Black type and was a regular at Presque Isle this year and most recently there took her fourth win of the campaign; two starts ago she hung on to beat, Bint Huwaar who is here; Jean Elizabeth is also a dedicated speedster. RACE #7 7 DESOLATOR 2 KAILI S BIG BOY 6 FAST NEGOTIATIONS 3 ARNIE THE KING LEGAL GUMP had no kick on Tapeta last time and that was a letdown performance after earlier in the money finishes; he now goes to turf where he has yet to win. KAILI S BIG BOY had a big speed try September 16 th on turf at six furlongs and came up just shy when beaten at the end and he did have several of these in behind him; he once again looks like the best speed of the race and is strictly the one to catch; he has a record of one win in twenty six career races. ARNIE THE KING was getting his rally in order in mid stretch September 16 th against some of these and stayed inside and was fourth beaten less than a couple of lengths; he remains a factor and is relatively fresh at this point. LETTHEBIGHOSSROLL had an excuse last time as he got locked in behind rivals waiting for room and moved too late; his lone career win was a victory on grass at seven furlongs in the summer time. GASCONADE had a couple of significant rallies on turf earlier in the year; most recently on turf against some of these, he had an ineffective outside move and is looking for a better distribution of his energy here. FAST NEGOTIATIONS handled turf just fine when second best against, Desolator, two starts ago and then came back and won on grass last outing; he has had time for interim prepping for Robert Tiller and Entourage Stable. DESOLATOR competes for Polo Management services and ran to his big work of early August when he came back August 17 th to win on the grass with an aggressive stalking approach and he beat, Fast Negotiations; he went to the first allowance level last time where he appeared to be looking for more room deep in the stretch with a good effort; he comes right back at the same distance here but moves out of the first allowance classification down to this optional category for non winners of two which makes his challenge more reachable. DRENA S BULLET got pinched back in a scuffle at the gate last time and didn t sufficiently recover; he seeks his first share on turf. SEXY BUSINESS was up close on turf last time and then flattened out in the stretch; he was on the edges going six furlongs two starts ago. FRITZIE S BOY is typically around the edges but is without a win in recent times; he ran another good race on grass last time; he stalked behind rivals with Campbell taking over and he moved late on the outside to miss second by a length behind, Kaili s Big Boy; he rates attention.

JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 14 TH, 2018 RACE #8 7 BLURRICANE 2 MEXICAN HAT 3 SAN NICOLA STORM 6 RED EXPLOSION NORTHERN KISS is getting a belated first start of the season for Blair Miller; she saw action last year from July through December taking a single win; she had a positive work October 6 th in where she went out quite well. MEXICAN HAT took a first allowance win at a route two starts ago and most recently went to the Belle Mahone where she had every chance to win it from the outside but she was beaten by the deep rally of, Gamble s Ghost, and settled for third; her big adjustment here is cutting back to only seven furlongs for Catherine Day-Phillips; she is a beautifully bred four year old filly by, Street Cry, going for Narola, LLC and Anderson Farms Ontario. SAN NICOLA STORM had a couple of big training moves on turf August 25 th and September 1 st and had a booming victory on grass September 9 th when rushing from off the pace in demonstrative fashion; she again posted a fast time in a work October 6 th while on Tapeta and will attempt to convert that enthusiasm for this event. SILVER SIDNEY had a good race when forced over to Tapeta August 10 th and she was third behind, Red Explosion, and Blurricane; she has been busy since then with consecutive out of the money finishes on turf. DELAMAR had a useful return race September 1 st but second time out, she was a significant disappointment; she makes her way back now for her third race following the layoff and Hernandez is sticking with her; she now competes on Tapeta. RED EXPLOSION won a nice purse when she edged, Blurricane in a race that came off turf August 10 th ; most recently, she did not have the same resolve and backed away when, Blurricane, was second; Kimura now rides at seven furlongs. BLURRICANE was able to squeak through a small space and win for the first time this year August 19 th in just her third start of the season; most recently however, she was quite a disappointment when finishing second at even money; the rail was the best part of the surface that day and she was trying to come from the outside and she was four lengths inferior; she now goes seven furlongs for the first time since November SILVER PRINCESS was fourth last time when, Blurricane, was the runner up and that one is here; she raced off the rail on the tougher footing outside on that occasion; she is just three races into her current campaign. RACE #9 8 ARTISTICO 5 CAMP CREEK 6 SINE METU 1 SEEKING THE BAY SEEKING THE BAY comes home after an extended stay at Presque Isle and was formerly a productive local runner; this year he has taken just a single win and it came on Tapeta; he is trying a marathon on turf here and has yet to win on turf in his career; he comes in for Ron Potts Jr. and owner Arthur Amos and Wilson will ride. TWENTYTWENTYCREST was doing ok until mid stretch in the previous race in this series but then slumped; she traveled a mile last time on turf and that race belonged to a speed winner and running from off the pace left her at a significant disadvantage; she faces the boys. LEOPARD CAT is without a win this season but continued on quite well at a route September 28 th when making his way back into the game and now goes to turf a footing over which he has just a single win; he must cope with a significant extension here. STRONGBOX is a former hurdler who loved extended distances; he most recently competed in a two mile race on the Tapeta at Presque Isle where he was fifth and that should leg him up nicely for the switch to this turf course at a distance just beyond that last race. CAMP CREEK is a former Breeders Stakes winner and on that occasion he seemed to be at the top of his form with a strong stretch march; his next start in August of 2016 came in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer where he also closed well; he is looking for his first victory in an extended time; his return race here September 9 th against, Artistico, was very good and he did his best running once he was removed from the rail; he shows a couple of recent works getting ready for Kevin Attard and Hillsbrook Farms. SINE METU is a good staying prospect and he was in the previous leg of this series September 9 th where he came from the third flight on the outside and stayed on just fine; he has a certain ability to settle kindly and that should help at this extended distance; Simon Husbands rides. J M R SILENT SAM is a one time winner and the lone time he tried grass was in a marathon earlier this year where he didn t stay the trip against, Artistico; he has been at Fort Erie lately. ARTISTICO seemed to have a pace advantage at thirteen furlong in the previous event in this series; he held off the runner up, Royal Intrigue throughout the entire stretch while, Camp Creek, was moving forward in third; he looks to be well suited from a pace point of view under Campbell for Sylvain Pion and 4U Thoroughbred Racing Stable who were represented in the Pattison Canadian International by, English Illusion. ITSTARTSWITHADRINK competed in the previous leg of this series and made a nice outside run with about three furlongs to go but that proved to be a bit premature and he finished on the edges against, Artistico; Fukumoto has the mount with the blinkers off.

JIM S JOURNAL OCTOBER 14 TH, 2018 RACE #10 7 HOT CASH 2 POWER EMPIRE 4 SCREENWRITER 6 DREAMS ARE FREE SNIPPY is getting her first start since August 26 th when she showed some life along the inside to finish on the edges; she resurfaces here with blinkers on for Roger Attfield; she has worked both on Tapeta and turf getting ready; her most recent work on grass was progressive. POWER EMPIRE tried to squeeze a couple of races into a short period of time in early September; a move to Tapeta last time had her running better through the stretch in this classification when she was fourth beaten just three lengths as other three year olds dominated the issue; she got shuffled back early in that race and then moved well late on the outside; she worked well October 3 rd in for Mark Casse. ALICE S WAR waited behind runners in this classification last time and then gradually moved forward finishing sixth beaten about five lengths without threatening. SCREENWRITER is trying to make an impact; she came off the shelf August 1 st and ran willingly on turf when close up; most recently, a new style had her farther off the pace and despite laying in she made a move forward in third; she comes off the shelf here and for the first time will try Tapeta for Barbara Minshall. SOTHATSTHEWAYITIS went by on the outside late in the race September 1 st for a win at a route to take her initial score; most recently, she was on turf and performed poorly in a race that was set up for closers but she couldn t make an advance. DREAMS ARE FREE attracted a claim when she arrive here August 1 st and now competes for Anderson Farms Ontario; she is looking to make her way back here after a series of works for her new trainer, Catherine Day-Phillips and Wilson will ride with the stretch out around two turns. HOT CASH was third in the Woodbine Oaks and a close fourth in the Bison City; she took an easy challenge in a maiden contest July 27 th before going unplaced in the Breeders where she swung out to make a move but couldn t gain; she now goes to a first allowance race looking for her second career score; she has put together three works at five furlongs for Mike Doyle getting ready for Stronach Stables. I LOOK INCREDIBLE had a good race last time at this distance at the optional level; she dropped down to the rail at the last moment and narrowly missed; she looks to build on that performance at this allowance level. RACE #11 10 DILLY DALLY DARBY 4 DIAMOND EXPRESS 3 IRISH TEARDROP 5 DIRTY GIRL 8 JUPITER S EAGLE ROSE RING was able to win a B maiden event September 12 th despite being bumped around on the backstretch by the eventual last place finisher who was trying to wedge into the clear; she was resolute through the lane in that win at five furlongs; she comes off the shelf to go six furlongs for Steven Chircop and Bruno Schickedanz. WEDDING RING won nicely at home at Fort Erie for Noel Williams last time by dominating the pace against Ontario sire company; she travels six furlongs here for $19,000. IRISH TEARDROP had a very smart winning ride last time; she camped behind runners and then made her way easily to the outside for the stretch drive where she surged late to win it; she is back at six furlongs and has had interim prepping. DIAMOND EXPRESS was able to win September 30 th at first asking while going generally undetected; she was quiet in the early going but powered by with plenty of enthusiasm deep in the stretch; she now goes for twice the price for Jamie Attard. DIRTY GIRL came up tagged and for only $20,000 last time and ran third on turf; she was reserved back and made her move but was repelled, yet, landed a smaller prize; she can handle Tapeta as she showed earlier in the summer. DIVA ON A DIME looks to be a five furlong specialist who won big for maiden $20,000 last time with a nice outside kick with Alderson aboard for trainer Chris Steve; she now tries six furlongs here against non winners of two. PODGORA had an awkward departure from the gate July 15 th but got assembled in time to win going away for a smart maiden score; most recently, she experimented with turf and finished at the back; she looks to recapture the goodness of her previous race; she rates a look. JUPITER S EAGLE has had three runs this season and has not been a factor but now she takes the big drop which makes her eligible to wake up; she was fifth last time and the sixth place finisher, Worlds Your Oyster, has come back to run second and figured to be a contender in race two on Saturday. PERFECT ROAD won at first asking at Fort Erie and then came here September 19 th and was overwhelmed by the first place finisher, Dilly Dally Darby, who was subsequently demoted; she makes a switch to Kimura here and has had interim prepping for Sid Attard; she rates a look. DILLY DALLY DARBY found a likely spot to win last time at seven furlongs for $20,000; she camped behind rivals on the turn and got through on the inside at the top of the stretch but then drifted significantly late in the race and was blamed for interference against the runner up and she was disqualified; she shortens to six furlongs and looks to be a likely contender.
