JIM S JOURNAL SEPTEMBER 22 ND, 2018 RACE #1 4 CALAIS CAT 7 TRULY HONOURED 1 SAMURAI QUEEN 3 MOONSTONE SAMURAI QUEEN a homebred for Joey Gee Thoroughbreds goes for Barbara Minshall and was scheduled to start September 2 nd but her misadventures in the gat resulted in her being scratched; she has since had a work September 15 th in MALIBU DAWN debuted August 27 th at Delaware for Graham Motion and was second behind another debuting runner who won by twelve lengths; she is one of two homebreds for Sam-Son Farm in the race and she will now try Tapeta. MOONSTONE a debut runner for Bear Stables goes for Mike De Paulo; she was an auction purchase and is by a Wood Memorial winner; Campbell was aboard for a work September 9 th in getting ready for this six and a half furlong event which comes with lasix. CALAIS CAT debuted September 2 nd and was slow to get out of the gate which proved costly; she was under pressure on the backstretch to get moving and finally finished fourth with some life in the stretch; lasix is added for this second start and more room is available; she has had interim prepping. DANCE FOR DADDY makes wholesale changes for Sam-Son Farm moving to the stable of Gail Cox; blinkers are added and lasix also; she changes footing and distance with Lermyte now aboard; her opening two races were consecutive out of the money finishes on turf. MARNER checked early last time when the runner up came over and she wilted after that incident at a route; she had stayed more thoroughly at seven furlongs the time before when third beaten a length. TRULY HONOURED went to a much bigger stage to compete for $130,000 purse September 1 st at Kentucky Downs at six and a half furlongs on the grass; she finished a nice fourth as the three favourites took the best prizes including a Casse winner; she had run well here the time before when just in behind, Marner. MOMENTS TO SAVER a debut runner for Mark Casse is by, Super Saver, a Kentucky Derby winner; she has been prepared at Saratoga and came here September 14 th to work from the gate in bg; Boulanger rides with the blinkers on. RACE #2 2 SILENT CONTEMPT 6 SPANISH RIVER 4 SOUPER FLY OVER 7 SNIPER DANI S VICTORY was out of the money on turf two starts ago and was out of the money on Tapeta last time; a move is made to Santos and blinkers are added. SILENT CONTEMPT was stretching out to seven furlongs last time but the betting public had confidence and he romped by seven lengths with a final quarter in 25.4; he now takes on multiple winners. TIMEISEVERYTHING attracted a claim when dropped for $12,500 last time and he was eighth beaten five lengths; he now goes for Jim Ensom. SOUPER FLY OVER had some smart looking form in the spring time but a letdown performance July 8 th was followed by an out of the money run August 22 nd and that has prompted today s big drop; a rival did come into his path at the break last time. SUMERIAN BELL had speed alongside the leader last time in what was a closers race and he backed up to be third beaten just a neck in a solid try; he must go farther. SPANISH RIVER was out of the money on turf last time and now goes seven furlongs on Tapeta with hot apprentice Kimura aboard. SNIPER was protected at higher levels earlier but got down to this price range last time and a rival inconvenienced him at the start and he was beaten three lengths; Contreras stays aboard at the longer distance and he likes the seven furlong venue. RACE #3 5 WATCH ME STRUT 6 REMEMBERMIS 8 CITO 7 AULT VIRGA waited patiently off the pace September 8 th for $12,500 then made his move to the lead; he attracted a claim by Steven Chircop and is up in value. FORESTER S FORUM once again had his bold early speed to be clear when trying to double up for $11,500 last time but he weakened very late and Virga proved best with a rally; he now goes a mile on turf and likes the grass but this distance is more challenging. MONEY TALKER is a six time winner on turf but has had a frustrating time of it over the last couple of campaigns without a victory; he has been close by regularly and that was the case for $15,000 last time when he gave up the lead late after being softened by the sixth place finisher. REBEL MUSIC likes grass and won as recently as two starts ago on the turf at Fort Erie; he didn t threaten here for $10,000 on grass last time. WATCH ME STRUT needed all kinds of persuasion to get there in time at a longer distance than this August 15 th at a level lower; he made it just in time; he goes up one level and looks to be in against a competitive group with a chance. REMEMBERMIS seems to produce with time between races and that was the case July 29 th for $19,000 against non winners of three when he had a late thrust on turf while taking unusual support; he now comes in against multiple winners. AULT had his own way when he dropped for $20,000 July 7 th ; the runner up has come back to win nicely; most recently, he ran strongly for $16,000 but was edged by, Cito, who split runners at the last moment to take the victory. CITO was given a patient ride by Callaghan last time sitting in traffic until the last moment when he split runners to edge. Ault, and, Money Talker, for his first win of the campaign; he is up a level.

JIM S JOURNAL SEPTEMBER 22 ND, 2018 RACE #4 9 UNRIVALED SOUL 6 ROXHAM 13 CONQUEST RAPIDUNO 14 PENNY A POINT RASPBERRY WILD came off the shelf and dropped down August 25 th for $9,500 and ran strongly in third with an outside approach; she drops even farther now but has drawn the rail. KHAWLAH was in the same most recent race as, Raspberry Wild, and raced next to last in the run down the backstretch then advanced to be fourth one position behind her rival; there is more room today and Contreras takes over. MISGUIDED PASSION was tough to handle in the gate two starts ago and that seemed to have a negative impact on her performance; most recently, she went long against some of these and was on the edges after an inside trip. RED SAILS had an awkward break from the gate September 3 rd brushing the right side and she didn t recover finishing sixth when dropped to this level. RING FOR ESSA is getting her first start since August 7 th when she went to Fort Erie and had a second place finish; she had run second here back in July; she is fresh. ROXHAM ran acceptably well for $9,500 two starts ago off the shelf then elected to protect herself last time and with that race out of the way she comes below the level at which she ran two starts ago. SLOVENIA was moving late on the outside for $9,500 last time and finished on the edges when, Raspberry Wild, and, Khawlah, were better in third and fourth. EVENT HORIZON took a big drop last time but was ice cold on the odds board at 10-1 and after a middle move settled out of the money; she shortens in distance. UNRIVALED SOUL ran better than most imagined September 3 rd when dropped in for $7,500 at this distance for Norm McKnight; she benefitted from the bias and galloped away; she now tries non winners of two and figures to be a logical contender. MEET YOU AT HOME was one paced in a route last time and will now drop and shorten to seven furlongs. SUMMER FALLS was out of the money on turf two starts ago and out of the money in a route on Tapeta last time after a good middle move. CONQUER THE COURSE was at Fort Erie last time when out of the money; she is seeking a breakthrough win having last scored in CONQUEST RAPIDUNO is worth considering; she has been out of the money in consecutive events at higher levels and did show interest last time; she now plunges in value and goes to Tapeta seeking her second win in this her twenty sixth lifetime appearance. PENNY A POINT had the outside post last time and that took her out of contention; the fifth place finisher has come back to win; two starts ago she won for maiden $10,000 and that gives her some standing here. DUBHE closed inside last time but was only fifth against a dominant winner, Silent Contempt, who was entered in race two today. BID S KID saw her form slip last time when she dropped to this level; she has a challenging post here. RACE #5 9 ABBY GRACE 8 CELTIC SINGER 4 PEACE SEEKER 6 GLIB MARYLIN MAXIMUM ENTROPY is one of several in the race moving up in value for an opportunity to get onto turf although she is shareless on grass to date. WRITTEN has run strongly on Tapeta in lower classifications the past while with a victory and two subsequent second place finishes; she has yet to share on turf but is bred for the grass and goes up in value. NADELEINE likes the turf; she took a big drop last time to go to Tapeta where she was only fourth and, Written, was second; perhaps she can go back up the ladder and have a good race on grass. PEACE SEEKER is one to consider; for $30,000 on grass against maidens at a mile last time she was reserved early and despite laying in got by the runner up for a victory; she now settles in for just $20,000. CANADIAN EH dropped in for $20,000 last time and the slow pace was against her and she seemed to have a trip excuse; she comes back at the same price range on turf. GLIB MARYLIN was just around the edges on turf August 18 th in a good try when second best and was on the edges on Tapeta last time against a winner who was stepping up; Wilson takes over as Moran is handling, Celtic Singer. VALID N GOLD is without a share in five trips on turf including a sprint last time; she goes longer here. CELTIC SINGER took the big plunge for $20,000 off the shelf September 8 th and had enough of an edge on that group to take a maiden win at low odds; she comes right back for $20,000 trying to double up. ABBY GRACE loves the grass; she just missed on turf for $20,000 two starts ago then was protected last time; she gets back to her favourite $20,000 level here as a contender; she seeks a breakthrough score. LA DOLCE UNO used some finesse in the stretch to win for $11,500 on turf last time and galloped out strongly suggesting this longer distance would be fine for her; she is up in value. READY S PRINCESS was on turf last time and closed mildly without threatening and now goes farther.

JIM S JOURNAL SEPTEMBER 22 ND, 2018 RACE #6 5 MAISIE 7 PIPER S HEATH 4 WORLD RIOT 2 DANCE READY ASHA IRONBORN has certainly trained better than she has performed; early speed was obvious when she went from five furlongs to a route last time but once again she lost in double digits; for this cutback to six furlongs the blinkers are on. DANCE READY opted to show speed over a surface more helpful to closing types September 1 st and she didn t have enough resistance in the home lane; that has been a continuing story for her; she comes back down in value here. JULIE S TAP DANCER a debut runner for Carrie Russiani, is bred for stamina top and bottom; she will get her career going here with an opening sprint WORLD RIOT showed some promise in her opener with a move to mid stretch; second time out she regressed and now drops for $40,000 and cuts back to a sprint with Husbands staying aboard which is a positive sign. MAISIE is having the same difficult now that she indicated earlier in her career and that is hanging while in contention; most recently at seven furlongs, she moved from fifth to challenge for the lead but the winner was too strong for her and she settled in second; she shortens to six furlongs. PROMISE ME BOURBON debuted September 12 th under the lights and had a difficult opening race because of an incident on the backstretch where she ran up into a pocket of rivals then tried to wedge her way out; she finally lost in double digits; Contreras takes over in this second start. PIPER S HEATH looks to be as good as most in here but she hasn t run since her two year old season when she had consecutive third place finishes; she rallied well against slow fractions in her finale last November; this will be her seasonal bow for Mike Mattine and Boulanger has been aboard in the morning. FOREST LASS has six in the money finishes from sixteen trips and her best approach is to run late; she was in a small field last time where she moved from last to fourth while, Maisie, was second. NO CHILL opted for a speed approach over a surface more helpful to closing types August 29 th and she didn t have much resistance; the blinkers are on for this cutback to six furlongs. RACE #7 4 CAN THELPBELIEVING 7 BLACK SEA 2 KING AND HIS COURT 1 CLEOPATRA S STRIKE CLEOPATRA S STRIKE caught a yielding turf course last time and raced widest beaten about four lengths when one paced; he will be stretching to a mile and a quarter here and Husbands retains the mount. KING AND HIS COURT competed in a key race last time in the Halton and finished third as the top two had a private war; the runner up came back to win the Grade 1 Northern Dancer while the first place finisher was third in that recent feature; he will welcome a turn back to ten furlongs and fits with these as he also seeks his initial win of the campaign; he seeks his first turf win. DRUMCLIFF caught a yielding turf last time and raced fourth about five lengths off while inside, yet, couldn t quicken late in the race; Cleopatra s Strike, was one position better. CAN THELPBELIEVING has been a significant winner in his career of long distance events including the Sky Classic Stakes here in the summer of 2017; this will be his first run since then and he has been getting legged up at home at Fair Hill and had a recent prep at seven furlongs; he has returned from some layoffs to run well in the past and is worth considering. ETHICAL FUNDS was scrubbed along in the Halton Stakes at a mile and a half but had nothing left for the important stretch drive in that key race from which the second and first place finishers have come back with big performances in the Grade 1 Northern Dancer; he did work well for this September 12 th in 59.3 going out nicely; Contreras takes over. WOODBRIDGE won a first allowance race at nine furlongs on turf last time with a steady gain while four wide leaving the turn; he needs to go another furlong here at this higher classification. BLACK SEA was in a key race in the Sky Classic last time and that race belonged to the top two and he lost the show award by a neck; he would welcome a shortening to a mile and a quarter here as he seeks a breakthrough win for the year. BANGKOK is accustomed to these long distance affairs and was at this distance on Tapeta last time but was out of the money for the fourth time in a row this year; he should be legged up now and getting back to turf should be fine. LOOKIN FOR EIGHT closed mildly last time at a mile on turf on yielding ground and prior to that ran ok at nine furlongs when third while, King And His Court, was second; he must travel an extra quarter mile; he had a sharp velocity work recently getting ready.

JIM S JOURNAL SEPTEMBER 22 ND, 2018 RACE #8 4 NOTICE ME - BEST BET 5 SILENT MISTAKE 1 PREFERRED GUEST 2 GEORGIAN DANCER PREFERRED GUEST debuted August 29 th under the lights in the Muskoka Stakes and started a rally from far behind and finished second with a clear path up the inside in a race dominated by closing types; she has had an interim work in 48 for Mark Casse. GEORGIAN DANCER had a wide post for the Muskoka Stakes and came from ninth to be a useful fourth with, Preferred Guest, in second and, Silent Mistake, in third; she is a half sister to the champion, River Maid, and will look to go forward in this second race off the shelf. MOKSGMOL got into an ill advised speed duel in the Muskoka Stakes last time along with, Silent Mistake, and both runners paid the price late; Hernandez was aboard for a September 15 th work going out well in 48.2 and takes over here. NOTICE ME debuted August 10 th and was second best against, Speedy Soul, who came back to easily win the Muskoka; second time out she raced at seven furlongs which gave her lots of time to sit quietly behind runners and when the late pace weakened she was opening up quickly; she cuts back to six furlongs and has had an interim work in company getting ready for Catherine Day-Phillips. SILENT MISTAKE had the significant misfortune in her debut August 29 th of drawing post fourteen and using a speed style over a surface more helpful to closing types; she gave up the lead late in a gallant try; she has had interim prepping heading into this second start for Norm McKnight where she is no doubt hoping for a more neutral surface; she is a very attractive individual by, Silent Name. ISHIYAYA didn t do much running in her opener in a key race where, Notice Me, was second; second time out, she cut back to five furlongs and was strong on the pace with a perfect trip for Mike Mattine; Husbands retains the mount. KATLA S FURY was third best against a key winner August 10 th and in second was, Notice Me; she came back in the same race as, Notice Me, last time and had an isolated outside trip while the winner got through on the rail; she was finally fifth. RACE #9 8 SPLIT THE SEA 2 MARCH OF DREAMS 7 ALKELINE 3 CAROLINA GRACE DESERT POEM has developed positive consistency this season and took a win September 2 nd when looking like a first place finisher through the stretch run; she cashed in; she now goes against non winners of two. MARCH OF DREAMS took a maiden win on turf two starts ago at a mile and kept up the pursuit; most recently in this category, she advanced from ninth to be second with every chance and she kept, Alkeline, in behind her in third; she comes right back a mile with Boulanger aboard. CAROLINA GRACE has landed on the edges in her last couple of races but her lone win was on turf at seven furlongs; perhaps she has found the one mile distance just a bit testy as she has failed to significantly improve her position in the last furlong in recent races. PIRANO a three year old handled herself well when getting adjusted to this category at a mile last time but she hung in the crunch finishing fourth when, March Of Dreams, was better in second and, Alkeline, was third. MONSOON RAIN is getting her first start since June 17 th ; she had a good race on Tapeta at that time when third; she had tried turf last season; she indicates two recent works getting ready for this return for Jim Ensom. DESDEMONA helped herself by dropping in for maiden $19,000 last time and she was the easiest of winners on turf getting strong on the outside through the stretch; she goes up in value and has had interim prepping. ALKELINE has been positively consistent to date; her first couple of races came on turf including a win and most recently she returned to the grass for her fourth career start where she was third just a length and a half behind the runner up, March Of Dreams; she followed behind rivals and continued willingly while inside. SPLIT THE SEA is the big question mark as she will be running for a claiming price for the first time for Sam-Son Farm; she broke last in her race July 14 th then followed an extra fast pace over a firm surface and was only four lengths back in a first allowance race; she indicates a recent work on turf getting ready for Malcolm Pierce. TWENTYTWENTYCREST was in a marathon last time and was ok until mid stretch where she faded; she will be going third time off the reclaim and now she competes against non winners of two.

JIM S JOURNAL SEPTEMBER 22 ND, 2018 RACE #10 3 CHIRICAHUA SIGNAL 4 CHILL 9 MALIBU SECRET 6 WALDORF CAPTAIN THUNDER had a career opening win with good speed; second time out he was in against the difficult, Wyatt s Town, and was used to duel near the pace and then finished a fading fourth in the stretch; he draws the difficult inside post here at six furlongs; he seeks his second win. FRONT NINE is moving up in value from the optional classification to go to a first allowance race; he had an awkward break from the gate last time then relocated outside to win it for his third lifetime score. CHIRICAHUA SIGNAL beat non winners of three last time when running for just $19,000 and he had an amazing stretch run to get away; he looks to build on that enthusiasm with a jump all the way to the first allowance level; his off the pace style could be effective here. CHILL has been positively consistence the past while and was runner up on turf last time in this category when he used a new off the pace style and rallied well but missed narrowly; Contreras returns after a one race absence as he was aboard the winner last time. THE YOUNG LORD had his nice series of victories interrupted in the Kenora Stakes last time when, Pink Lloyd, was his focus and he finally finished a fading fourth in a letdown effort; he had gone so much better the time before when beating non winners of three in the optional category; he is in a first allowance event here. WALDORF beat optional company when taking down his third lifetime win September 7 th and he was bold late in that event under a hand ride on the lead for Norm McKnight when getting his first win of the year; there are other speed sources here. HOLD EMFORRANSOM moved over to turf for the first time this year September 8 th and advanced very well in that key race and was strong all the way when third beaten a half length and, Chill, was second; he moves to Tapeta here; he seeks his second win. NOT SO QUIET won his opening two races in style; most recently, he went to this first allowance classification which proved too difficult for him as he slipped back late; he will shorten in distance to six furlongs. MALIBU SECRET has produced some isolated peak efforts in his short career; he recently came off the shelf and needed more; his late running style could be useful here; this distance is short by his standards. RACE #11 5 EASY BID 4 JOSEPHINE 11 IT S GRACE 13 ONLY ESSA 14 POTRA LIZA HANCHY ran a good race on Tapeta for $10,000 two starts ago but was out of the money last time and the fourth place finisher has come back to win; she now goes to turf. CALAIS COVE was moving outside in her previous event but on turf last time she couldn t keep up with some of these for $19,000; she now to drops to a more reachable level. BEAUFILS has been in the money in three consecutive runs going long on Tapeta but will now enter for turf here for just the second time; she made a nice outside move last time. JOSEPHINE competed on a hot day September 2 nd and that was a draining performance from post ten at seven furlongs as she made her way forward to lose narrowly on turf; there is extra yardage available here. EASY BID is capable; on turf at seven furlongs back in late July she ran a good race in second and was third last time on turf for $20,000; the late pace in that most recent race was quite good; she gets to drop. CHEETAHRA fell back from between runners in the third flight last time on turf; she had been second at Fort Erie on grass the time before. TOUCH ABOVE was running on well late last time at seven furlongs on turf to be fifth beaten only four lengths with, Josephine, second; blinkers are added. BEL TEMPO was on turf for $20,000 last time against some of these in a race where the late pace was good and she gained gradually on the edges. FABULIST had a good race on grass in the spring time but a return race on turf July 1 st came at too high a level; she runs now for only $10,000 on a big drop. SADIE IRENE was running between rivals and to the inside last time on Tapeta with a drop down and finished second at low odds; she discovers the grass here. IT S GRACE was eliminated when bothered at the gate last time but got right back in the race and closed to be fourth beaten a length and a half on turf at one level higher than this. SHOW ME THE PRIZE likes others in here is dropping down; she was in a turf race last time which featured a good late pace and she found it difficult to close. ONLY ESSA was in against a key winner last time on turf for $20,000 and was beaten only seven lengths showing a touch of interest at the end; she comes in for half the price here. POTRA LIZA dropped down for $12,500 on turf last time and it was a good effort as she was three wide with every chance and she finished a tight third with, Josephine, second. PETITE AMIE was scrubbed along last time trying to reach contention for $12,500 at a route; this will be her fourth time on turf and she is seeking her initial share on the lawn.
