JIM S JOURNAL JULY 8 TH, 2018 RACE #1 1 RINCE TAPAIGH 3 PURE PURITY 2 PRETTY TWO FACED 6 CONQUER THE SKY RINCE TAPAIGH looks like a contender here with the drop in for $20,000; she was in a quickly run race last time that featured a very fast pace and a key winner; she faded late; she is a one time winner on the grass; she needs a breakthrough win; Hernandez now rides. PRETTY TWO FACED handles turf just fine; she competed in a race last time that was set up for closing types but she was an aggressive part of the middle pace and hung in the crunch finishing fifth; she is down in value. PURE PURITY has been competing in sprint races and is now asked to go long on turf; perhaps her quick close deep in the stretch at a shorter distance last time has promoted her to this longer distance; she will be looking for a cleaner trip here; she raced well in a route on turf about this time last year. ROXY RED was in the same fast race last time as, Pure Purity, and had the benefit of a speed approach but the front runner also used that tactic and she faded late to fifth and now goes farther. MISS MANDATE was unproductive in her opening races and has been freshened since June 8 th ; in that race she faded late and, Pretty Two Faced, was better in fifth. CONQUER THE SKY is a wake up prospect because of the drop in value; she hasn t been close in three starts this season against significantly better opponents than she encounters here; a shift is made to Da Silva by Mike Mattine. SAYYESTOXCELENCE commanded the front end last time where she had a slow pace in her favour to win on Tapeta for $10,000. RACE #2 1 SHOW GIRL 4 VIA ANN 2 MYSTIC NILE 5 KILLAG KATIE SHOW GIRL was in a quickly raced route on Tapeta two starts ago and was second best as the favourite; she was also the favourite when she moved to turf last time and she was a significant disappointment; understandably she gets back to Tapeta. MYSTIC NILE was just in behind, Show Girl, two starts ago in a Tapeta race and just in front of her last time in a turf race where she had the rider off at the gate and then had a tentative approach when, Via Ann, was second. CELTIC SINGER showed potential in her previous event; most recently, she was sitting in a perfect position but the winner zipped by and she was finally third beaten less than a length; she goes to Tapeta around two turns. VIA ANN had a good race on Tapeta around two turns last November when second beaten a nose; she comes off a strong race on turf last time where she lacked a path at the top of the stretch then ducked to the inside in belated fashion. KILLAG KATIE had a positive run March 17 th at Turfway Park when second in her debut but a subsequent race at Keeneland proved overwhelming for her; she has been here training for an extended time for her new trainer, Catherine Day-Phillips and goes long on Tapeta in this spot. ECHO BAY debuted at a route last November and was never close; a June 15 th seasonal bow looks to be a means to an end at seven furlongs to get ready for this longer test. SANDY STATS had a June 15 th debut at seven furlongs and attended the pace before faltering in an event where the top three were the best ones. RACE #3 2 GRACED LIGHTNING 7 BEST BARD 3 CLEARER VIEW 8 ROXY S VISION ROYAL INTRIGUE hammered out two nice wins last season; he has made just two starts this year as an eight year old and has been unplaced both times; he gets back to turf here. GRACED LIGHTNING is a quickly developing five year old gelding making up for lost time; he won his comeback race easily; most recently stretch theatrics were ordered and he produced a significant late gain to steal it away and he galloped out strongly as if more room would be welcomed and he now goes to a mile for Francine Villeneuve; he seeks just his third win. CLEARER VIEW is getting his first start since June of 2017 when his form had slipped; he has been a popular local runner in the past and now makes his way back after a series of morning works to compete here for $40,000 on turf. TIMEISEVERYTHING returned from time away June 22 nd and it was a perfect drop for the Casse stable to win for $20,000 and he produced an inside move at six and a half furlongs on turf; he understandably attracted a claim and now goes for Angus Buntain at a higher value and at a longer distance. VIVA LAD was traveling too quickly in a speed duel on Tapeta last time and backed up late; he seeks his first win on turf. SOUPER FLY OVER tried turf for the only time last October here and was just on the edges; he had a perfect pace trip last time to take his third lifetime score and a slow pace aided his trip on Tapeta. BEST BARD a seven time winner on the grass broke behind in his latest then tried to loop runners in contention but hung; he comes right back in the same category looking to benefit from that seasonal bow. ROXY S VISION was in against a key winner in his seasonal bow sprinting and then went to the Steady Growth Stakes last time where he was fanned wide on the first turn and lost ground late; he now goes to turf.

JIM S JOURNAL JULY 8 TH, 2018 RACE #4 2 WAVE DANCER 6 DULCEDO 11 STILL IN FASHION 7 CONNORS SENIORITA SOUTHLAND SUGAR added front bandages last time and went from a sprint to a route and attended the pace and was well within range with every chance but faltered; she shortens to a sprint and puts the blinkers on. WAVE DANCER has made four starts at the meeting and has had three runner up finishes; that was the case June 18 th at five furlongs when she had every chance but she duelled with the winner throughout and that one came back along the inside and took it away from her; she goes six furlongs here. PIAZZA TIME gained on the outside but couldn t sustain the advantage in her debut when facing some of these. RARE GEM had ideal positioning June 15 th but couldn t capitalize and finished third; most recently, she advanced from farther back and was fourth of eleven. SHAUNESSY had no impact June 8 th and has been freshened a month by the now hot stable of Steve Attard. DULCEDO deserves one more chance because she was overmatched in her debut June 17 th for $25,000 at 35-1; she now drops for $8,000 with Moreno riding. CONNORS SENIORITA disappointed in her debut and was hemmed in through the stretch; second time out she ran willingly in third and comes down one level and shortens by a half furlong. WANT NO ATTITUDE raced three wide from the third flight last time and had no impact against the runner up, Wave Dancer; lasix is added. D S BENEFACTION will be departing the lasix program after a fading effort for $9,500 last time when, Connors Seniorita, was better in third. THE VISION S REAL was at five furlongs last time without threatening when, Wave Dancer, was second. STILL IN FASHION was in against a reachable group when she debuted June 8 th and she responded inside but was second best as the winner got clear late; she has since had a five furlong work for Norm McKnight. RACE #5 11 KING OF THE COURT 5 JUAN STORMY NIGHT 12 KISSOFFIRE 4 BERKELEY BOY ATHENA S LEGACY has tried the turf four times to date without producing; he had every chance to do well three furlongs from home at a route on Tapeta last time but faltered in the stretch. ROCKBARTON returned from considerable time away and took the big drop; he was prepared on the training track and didn t quite reach the level of goodness of his previous race but finished an ok fourth hanging near the end; he remains on the grass. FOXY B was getting his second start of the meet and he went to turf and he got involved in a middle pace struggle with another who finished out of the money and then both slumped in the stretch. BERKELEY BOY is certainly working with enough pedigree to move to the grass effectively with lasix added and with a big drop in value here; he was in a key race last time where the seventh place finisher has since dropped to win. JUAN STORMY NIGHT was on turf for the second time at the meet June 20 th and was reserved early in an attempt to stay off the pace; he then came running in the stretch but the winner who was in front throughout was simply better and kept him in second spot in a solid effort that gives him standing here. HIDDEN STORM has been stick handling for the best spot and lands here in an acceptable situation for $15,000; he is a homebred for Hidden Springs by, Signature Red, who loved the grass and he worked on the turf back in mid June getting ready for Kevin Attard. SHOT OF GLORY is getting his first start of the year and is now under the control of Jim Ensom and has been prepping regularly since late May getting ready; he understandably gets to drop and he will try turf for the first time with Contreras aboard for the second time. JUST FOR ROSE started the year for $25,000 and didn t do much running there but was beaten only eight lengths and takes a logical drop down in value and now makes a shift to the turf hoping for a wake up. GOLDEN EXCHANGE has tried the turf several times without collecting but has been over to the training track for recent works trying to build some momentum in the morning. CEPELINAS was in for just $9,500 when leaving the turf and going to Tapeta last time and was not a factor. KING OF THE COURT has started only three times; in his second start of this meeting he became embroiled in a pace match up with the third place finisher and faltered to fourth; that race shows that he has some talent and understandably, he gets to drop here and switch to the turf looking to capitalize. KISSOFFIRE has run generously in both races this season but was too late in his seasonal bow when second on the turf and last time moved a bit prematurely and hung with the lead in what was still a good performance; he fits. LILLZ NOT CRYING was a rallying third on turf last time when, Juan Stormy Night, was the runner up. DANNY S RUSH earned a higher rating June 23 rd in a six and a half furlong race on Tapeta but was in against a winner who has since disappointed. TOP HAT TRICK a homebred for Stronach Stables will try turf here for just $15,000 in this opener for Martin Hinckson; he is from the same dam who produced the popular local turf winner, Berliner; he has the benefits of turf action in the morning from back in early June.

JIM S JOURNAL JULY 8 TH, 2018 RACE #6 1 EINSTEIN S BABE 3 DEED S LEGACY 6 MOKSGMOL 2 MAHONE BAY EINSTEIN S BABE debuted June 2 nd for Martin Hinckson and at 28-1 ran second in an open two year old filly race from which the third place finisher has come back win on Queen s Plate day; she has been busy with two interim works getting ready; Simon Husbands rides once again. MAHONE BAY a Florida auction purchase is by, Sligo Bay, and from a dam who has produced three juvenile winners and competes here for Mark Casse; she prepped in company June 3 rd in 48.3hg getting ready and Husbands rides. DEED S LEGACY a debut runner for Goldmart Farms competes for Sid Attard; she is a daughter of, Court Vision, and showed speed in a gate work June 23 rd in 48.4bg getting ready; she did flash speed June 1 st in a work in LONDONDERRY a homebred for Empress Stable is from a dam who loved to route, yet, she produced last year s juvenile winner, Josie s Riddle; she worked earlier in company July 1 st in getting ready for this launch for Steve Owens. AILIS a debut runner for Mike De Paulo was an auction purchase and is by Nephrite, a Group 3 winner in Ireland; she put up a fast time in a training track work in MOKSGMOL is a full sister to this year s winner, Opeongo; she is a daughter of, Cold Harbor, who was represented recently by the stakes winner, Eskiminzin; Ryan was aboard for a gate work June 20 th in 49.2bg and will have the ride here for Carlos Grant. CANDY MOUNTAIN a debut runner by, Old Forester, was an inexpensive auction purchase and debuts for Harold Ladouceur; she beat company in her gate work July 5 th getting ready. CRUMLIN TIME was running on greenly June 2 nd but showed a touch of life in the stretch and has already come back with a fast work in 59.4 for Mike Doyle; the third place finisher has since won. WHAT S THE RUSH debuted in a key race June 10 th and lacked any speed; for this second start she gets in against Ontario sire runners and has since worked quickly. MUNCH AND CRUNCH debuted June 2 nd and was behind early in the same race where, Einstein s Babe, was second; she has since worked in A FOX IN THE FOREST had no speed when she debuted but was running on late between rivals in what should be a good introduction presenting a chance to do things quicker second time out; she worked June 24 th in 1.01 getting ready. FLASHY GIZMO debuted June 16 th in an open race along with some others here and was seventh beaten six lengths without threatening; she has since come back to work in CARMEN IS MY NAME a debut runner for Bill Tharrenos is a homebred for Heste Sport by, Silent Name, and she worked quickly from the gate June 23 rd in 47.1hg getting ready. SHISHKA a debut runner for Goldmart Farm and Royal Laser Racing is from the same dam who produced the nice local winner, Singandcryindubai; she worked June 8 th from the gate in 48.3bg getting ready for Robert Tiller. RACE #7 8 MEXICAN HAT 7 HANALEI MOON 9 CURLUCK 6 SNIPPY SAILOR S THOUGHT has tried Tapeta only to this point and has been relatively consistent; she was third in her seasonal bow at a route fading just at the end and she should benefit from that race; she has had interim prepping for this switch to the grass. GET EXPLICIT was on turf last time at a mile in a quickly run race; she attended close by but the top two dominated and she was finally seventh. ALICE S WAR has had many good runs on the turf in the past and was third in her second start of this campaign against a key winner; most recently, she moved between rivals but then hung at the end and now she goes farther. REBEL WITHA CHANCE had a rather simple method last time as she galloped to the lead on the fence which she enjoys and she was best for her first turf win in her eighth try on the lawn; she faces tougher here. BRIGHTER IDEAS attracted a claim from her seasonal bow for Norm McKnight when she was third against, Rebel Witha Chance, on turf at this distance; she has come back with a fast work. SNIPPY was developing nice pace techniques last summer and took a maiden win in September then was hoping for grass in her finale but the race went on Tapeta and she faded in that key event from which the first, second and eighth place finishers have all come back to win; she had a fast work in company July 3 rd in getting ready for Robert S. Evans and Roger Attfield. HANALEI MOON couldn t keep up in her opening two events but when introduced to turf last time she discovered a new element; she was parked behind rivals then found room in the stretch and produced a big burst along the inside and galloped out strongly; she understandably gets more room here for Mark Casse; she is a homebred for Stonestreet Stables; she has since had a good work. MEXICAN HAT is a beautifully bred individual by, Street Cry, who competed in France for Andre Fabre then was moved here to the care of Catherine Day-Phillips for Narola LLC and Anderson Farms; she performed well in France on the synthetic surfaces and was perfect here when introduced June 20 th ; she now goes over to turf and she has worked willingly on the training turf here. CURLUCK gives the impression she would enjoy a turf with more give to it than the very firm course she was on last time when she moved to the lead but gave up the advantage late and was finally fourth; she goes farther.

JIM S JOURNAL JULY 8 TH, 2018 RACE #8 5 PINK LLOYD 1 KINGSPORT 6 BOREAL SPIRIT 2 SAN NICOLA THUNDER KINGSPORT was somewhat disappointing in his second start of the meet as he did not go forward as anticipated in the Steady Growth; he was pinned in during the run down the backstretch and then advanced to be fourth while the favourite won; he tries a turn back in distance for this race which he won in 2016; he has worked smartly heading into this event. SAN NICOLA THUNDER was under pressure to make the lead in the stretch June 24 th and just as he was reaching up for the advantage the winner got loose and beat him about a length; he attracted a claim by Bermuda Blue Farm and comes back here in the Shepperton getting 7 lbs. from, Pink Lloyd; he seeks his fourth stakes win and was second in this race last year. NUPOGODI has notched consecutive off the pace wins for Angus Buntain; he was helped last time when the late pace weakened after such a hot pace developed in the early furlongs. JACKS ESCARPMENT contributed to speed along the inside last time out but hung in third at the end; he had been second in consecutive races last year to, Pink Lloyd. PINK LLOYD has an extended streak of stakes wins going and is asked to carry 124 lbs. here; the outside post was an aid for him last time; he was a strong presence on the turn and into the stretch; he has had two half mile works getting ready this with Da Silva aboard; he competes for the Entourage Stable of Frank Di Giulio Jr., Ed Longo, John Peri, John Lucato and Victor Mele; he is conditioned by Hall of Fame trainer Robert Tiller. BOREAL SPIRIT had a booming work at the beginning of June and eight days later was in the winner s circle on turf; he has worked well again heading to this event looking to double up with the move to Tapeta. LOKINFORPURSEMONEE was used up in the Achievement Stakes and paid the price next time out when flat in an allowance contest; he is a three time stakes winner and is looking to come back stronger here. RACE #9 2 BLACK CANARY - BEST BET 5 WAY TO VERSAILLES 8 COUSIN CLAIRE 1 KASUGA KASUGA is an noted speed runner in her element here on turf at a sprint distance; she came up just shy in her latest after giving up the lead late and kept, Black Canary, about a half length behind her in third; she must go farther. BLACK CANARY was in the same most recent race at six furlongs as the runner up, Kasuga, and closed widest in nice fashion to be third beaten less than a length; she now extends to seven furlongs a venue she handled particularly well in her previous win. HONOR AND TRUST had a May 20 th seasonal bow and faded in the stretch when she had a rival laying on her in the stretch; she looks to be more thorough in this second start. COPPER FOX got swept up in the speed culture of a race June 23 rd and closers took the best prize and she hung on for third; she now gets over to turf for just the third time in her life. WAY TO VERSAILLES went six furlongs on turf June 10 th in a less than ideal journey and finished fourth beaten two lengths after being locked in; she stretches to seven furlongs here and has run well at this distance in the past; she encounters other speed in the race. SILVER PRINCESS is getting her first start since August of 2017 when she faltered in consecutive stakes events to be out of the money; on her best day she has highly productive speed and she has trained quickly coming back for Roger Attfield. MOZAMBIQUE GOLD won big in her seasonal bow when taking a significant edge for $30,000 and now she moves up to the $60,000 mark and shortens to seven furlongs; her late running ability could be useful here given all the early and middle speed types in the event. COUSIN CLAIRE joined the Catherine Day-Phillips stable May 20 th and had a late outside run to be third beaten just a length against a key winner; she goes an extra half furlong off the shelf and Boulanger has the mount.

JIM S JOURNAL JULY 8 TH, 2018 RACE #10 2 WALKABOUT CREEK 7 LOOKIN AT MATTEO 4 D SQUARED 9 DAN SING NIGHTLY COSMIC HALLELUJAH went without blinkers last time but still made it to the lead at seven furlongs then weakened from late stretch to the finish; he shortens in distance here. WALKABOUT CREEK a debut runner is by the popular, Lonhro, and is debuting for Mike Doyle and Mrs. Anna Doyle; he worked June 16 th in 57.3 and had a subsequent work June 20 th in getting ready. BRASSTOWN experimented with blinkers off in a route last time and faded on the second turn; the blinkers are on and he shortens in distance and he had a fast recent work on the training track getting ready. D SQUARED was part of the speed group on turf June 10 th and he backed away without much resistance; this will be his first trip on Tapeta; he worked on this surface June 26 th in 46.3 for Mark Casse. YASOU COUSIN NICK debuted June 10 th on turf and while he lacked early prominence he was trying to mount a rally outside; he now adds lasix and goes to Tapeta. ESKEN had a peak race here May 11 th and followed that sizeable late run with a bounce performance at a route last time; he traded styles and went to the lead and had no resistance along with, Brasstown. LOOKIN AT MATTEO a homebred for Terra Racing Stable goes for Kevin Attard in this opener; he is by, the popular, Lookin At Lucky and from a dam who produced the Queen s Plate winner, Big Red Mike; he has worked both on turf and Tapeta in better than average clockings. KUCHEROV a debut runner for Henley Thoroughbreds goes for John Charalambous; he is by, City Zip, and is from a dam who could both sprint and route; he worked quickly from the gate June 24 th in 48.3bg. DAN SING NIGHTLY a debut runner for Frank Di Giulio Jr. is from the same dam who produced the stakes winners, Anywhere, and, Line Of Best Fit; this one worked five furlongs June 16 th in getting ready and; Teneca Wolfe-Bell has the mount. RACE #11 6 COLEYVILLE 5 TIMESKIP 12 HEYDON S CASE 10 EVERGLOW 11 UNBOUNDED SPIRIT MAKEMINEAMANHATTAN was out of the money on turf two starts ago unable to stay; he went to Tapeta last time where his inward progress demanded that he remain inside and he was narrowly beaten; he goes back to grass from the rail post. BOURBON NEAT a debut runner is working with a significant turf family and his dam has produced four winners on the grass; he tries a route on turf at first asking for Colebrook Farms. SILENT BLAZE had speed at a route in his debut but faltered; second time out he was outrun when he moved to turf. GUNNER BEN debuted June 8 th with speed on turf but lost in double digits while, Coleyville, was second. TIMESKIP has been around the edges in recent events; last time at a route, he was responsible for the strong middle pace and paid the price late as the closers went by and he finished a tight fourth; he now goes one turn on turf in this introduction to the lawn. COLEYVILLE has had two runner up finishes on the grass including a run on turf June 8 th when he finished nicely but was out rallied by the winner; he was just on the edges on Tapeta last time and now blinkers are added. ATLANTIC CROSSING was in some difficulty into the turn last outing and that seemed to impact his performance on turf. PLEASANT FOREST debuted on Tapeta June 3 rd and wanted speed but that front end belonged to the winner who galloped alone; the runner up has come back to win; lasix is added and he now moves to grass a footing he should like given that his dam has produced a couple of turf winners. ARGENTIUM has yet to produce the expected stretch kick that was imagined; he now goes to turf for the first time and his sire does well with turf horses. EVERGLOW a beautifully bred individual has had an interrupted career and started here May 27 th following a freshening and lost in double digits to a strong winner; he has been freshened once again and he did work on the turf going forwardly June 16 th in 48.1 for Sam-Son Farm. UNBOUNDED SPIRIT is rounding into form; his latest was better as he stayed one paced on turf until deep stretch when he gave up some momentum; he figures to be more thorough today. HEYDON S CASE debuted in the spring time without threatening but at seven furlongs June 9 th when he returned he stayed on and galloped out well in a race where lasix was added; he now goes to turf and takes the blinkers off. TRICKY GAMBLE is getting his first start since 2016 when he debuted against a key group and the runner up was a recent winner here; he is a half brother to the five time stakes winner, Gamble s Ghost, he has had lots of prepping getting ready for Josie Carroll and adds lasix.
