The rain has cleared out and Mother Nature is bringing us several beautiful days of weather. Great time to get out and ride your horses :)! I now have two TCHA meetings and one CSHA meeting under my belt! I was impressed to learn how many horse groups are affiliated with CSHA. There are several opportunities in the Bay Area to keep yourself and/or family involved in some sort of horse related activity, please check out the CSHA Region 5 calendar for these events. Several exciting events coming up! TCHA Day At The Races, three CSHA Gymkhanas in Livermore, two club trail rides and our Bombproof Clinic all by the beginning of April. With so many events happening I am requesting everyone to PLEASE keep in mind that our events are not a success without participation from members. 2 Welcome to Norm and Stephanie Nather who joined at the January trail ride! They are trail riders from Livermore and have ridden with us at a couple rides. They are also interested in camping, etc. Also welcome to DJ and John Gustafson. They have ridden with us on several trail rides and camping trips. They live in Scotts Valley and travel a ways to ride with our group. We look forward to seeing you all at upcoming meetings and activities. February & March Trail Rides February Trail Ride: They say the third times the charm! We are going to try again for Sunol Regional Park near Sunol/Pleasanton! So Saturday, February 21st riders will be leaving at 11:00 a.m (Hopefully!) Bring a lunch! There is plenty of trailer parking near the rental stable and a picnic area next to the trailer parking. Meet at the parking area by 10:30, be ready to ride out at 11:00. We will return to the trailers to eat. Parking is $5.00/vehicle plus $4.00/trailer = $9.00 (If you have a EBRPD Pass there is no charge) Park Location Geary Road, Sunol, CA March Trail Ride: March 8th is the date of the annual Chili Trail Ride. This year we are going to Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa. Great trails but some are rocky so have shoes or boots on your horses. Bring your best chili for the chili cook-off and you may win the Fantastic Prize! Riders will leave at 11:00 am and return to the trailers for the cook-off! Bring your own drinks, club will provide bowls and utensils. Lots of parking and picnic area near the arena. Also a great obstacle course for you to practice on before the BPP! 3 Day At The Races Tri-Cities Horsemen s Assoc. is going to the races! On Saturday, March 28th join us at Golden Gate Fields Turf Club for a fun day at the race track and a delicious buffet. Who knows, you might even bet on the ponies!!! The price is $35.00 per adult and $25.00 per child (3-17). The fee includes valet parking, admission to the Turf Club, race program, Prime Rib Buffet and tax and tip. This normally costs $ A race will be named for Tri-Cities and 6 people will be allowed to attend the winners circle for that race. Gates open at 11:00, buffet at 11:30-2:00, first race at 12:45. The Turf Club dress code is included below. Please abide by the dress code, you will be refused entrance with no refund if not dressed appropriately. We have to let the race track know how many are coming by March 14th. If you would like to attend, please purchase your tickets quickly. Turf Club Dress Code Following is the dress code for the Golden Gate Fields Turf Club. Let s remember we are representing our club and dress appropriately (no old worn jeans or boots!). All guests including children are requested to dress in a smart casual style. Stylish denim or festive hats are welcome as is stylish casual footwear including tennis shoes. We strongly discourage: sweat pants/suits, T shirts, baseball hats, and thong style shoes. Guests who arrive in shorts of any style, tank tops (sleeveless shirts), or clothing with offensive logos will be denied access into the Turf Club. Page 3

4 This year s Bomb Proofing Playday will be April 11th. Huge thanks to Hetty Dutra for allowing us to use her fantastic Hossmoor again! Planning meetings are starting and everyone will be needed to help the day of the event. If you would like to be on the planning committee contact Lauri Abed on ASAP. All members please start saving plastic bottles for the plastic pit. Don t crush them and please bring to the event or the April meeting. We will be needing folks to help with transporting obstacles from the container, etc. Set up and take down, parking, registration, lunch cooking and serving, helping in the arena where needed with resetting obstacles and manure cleanup. Please let us know where you will be able to help schedule The show and arena dates have been approved. Dates for the first 3 camping trips have been set. So let the fun begin! 5 2015 Camping Trips We have several camping trips planned this year. All members are invited to attend. If you have not camped before don t let that stop you. It s great to explore the trails and see new places from horseback. The first trip is to Lake Oroville the weekend of May Loafer Creek Horse Camp at Lake Oroville is a very nice campground with 15 sites. Two pens per site, showers, flush toilets, large sand round pen, wash racks, picnic tables, fire rings, etc. Pictures below are of the camp ground. All the trails are very nice and not too challenging. I know several people in that area that I could get to come show us the trails! Reservations are $45/night and made through Everyone is responsible for making their own reservations. Following is a link directly to the horse campground reservation page. 6 2015 Camping Trips (continued) Trails through pine trees and manzanita range from flat to hilly and soft to rocky. Unshod horses should have boots. Everyone makes their own reservations through Enter Skillman in the Where field and select Skillman, Tahoe National Forest. Sites are $24 per night. If you are 62 or over and have a Senior Pass they are 50% less. Sites are now available for reservation and I suggest you reserve now as this is a very popular camp. June we are going to Skillman Horse Camp in Tahoe Nat l Forest approximately 14 miles north of Nevada City. The campground has chemical restrooms, horse and potable water (need to check before we go to confirm drinking water is available due to drought). The campsites are in the trees with picnic tables and fire rings. Camp sites, 7, 9, 13 & 15 have 2 pens, the rest have trees to high line or you can bring your own pens. Towle Mill Loop Skillman July 3-7 we are off to Franks Valley Horse Camp near Muir Beach. This is a group campsite with a vault restroom, horse water, group picnic area, barbecue and fire pit. There are 12 pens but we may be able to bring in a couple extra pens if needed. There is no high-lining. The club has made the reservation and it will cost $26 per horse for the weekend. Spaces will be assigned on a first come/first served basis to club members first. If you want to attend, contact Marie. Trails range from valley to hills to ridges with lots of water crossings. We also go to Muir Beach to ride in the surf if you want. Additional trips are planned to Wrights Lake in August and Dru Barner Horse Camp in September but exact dates have not yet been set. 7 High Point Program Sign Ups! If you have not already signed up for this year s high point program now s the time! Kendra presented the updated program rules and registration forms at the December meeting. Since the forms just came out in December, if you attended the October and November meetings, they will count for participation. The rules are posted on the club website. Riders are required to read the rules! Registration fee increased to $50 per rider/horse combination. However you do not need to get sponsors or raffle items as in the past so it is pretty much the same. You can have someone sponsor you and pay all or part of your registration fees. A copy of the registration form is on the club website, or get one from Kendra. Get it in ASAP so all the rest of the meetings count for your year! Sweetheart Chair We need a volunteer to organize this year s Sweetheart competition. If you want to help in this temporary position please contact Kendra ASAP. Newsletter Editor Needed!
