(alm) Supplementary Reports: WARWICK FARM: Wednesday, 5 April 2017 RACE 8 TAB.com.au Handicap 1200m Maraam when questioned regarding his riding of Maraam, which was resuming from a spell, B El- Issa explained that he had been instructed to travel in about a midfield position. He said that in his opinion, for the majority of the race, Maraam did not handle the heavy track conditions. He said that approaching and rounding the home turn, he was following Burradoo and as he felt that his mount was not working into the race as he had hoped, he elected to shift to the inside of that runner rounding the home turn save ground and look for runs through the field. He said in the early part of the straight, he immediately placed Maraam under pressure and approaching the 250m, when Rillito shifted in, he was afforded with clear running, however the mare was not responding as he had hoped and as it continually did not appreciate the track surface, he put the whip away and endeavoured to ride Maraam out hands and heels. He said that approaching the 100m, Rillito and Burradoo both shifted ground resulting in him being disappointed for running, and at this time, he had to steady his mount. He said as a consequence of Rillito shifting in front of him, Maraam was unable to obtain clear running for the remainder of the race and he, therefore, was unable to test the mare. B El-Issa conceded, that in retrospect, he had erred in not shifting to the outside of Burradoo rounding the home turn which would have afforded his mount uninterrupted running in the run home. B El-Issa was advised that he should at all times ride his mounts in a manner that provides a greater success of obtaining uninterrupted running at vital stages wherever possible. ROYAL RANDWICK: Saturday, 8 April 2017 RACE 9: Coolmore Legacy Stakes (Group 1) 1600m: Diamond Made was held up for clear running until approaching the 300m. Euro Angel C Brown explained that his mount hung in significantly when placed under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult for him to ride, particularly over the concluding stages. Cotrainer Mr M Hawkes was advised that a warning would be recorded against the mare in respect to its racing manners. Mr Hawkes advised the mare would now be spelled. RACE 1 I Am Invincible@Yarraman Park Handicap 1200m Pierata As C Brown experienced transport difficulties en route to the course, the Stewards permitted B El-Issa to be substituted as the rider. Pierata raced keenly in the middle stages. My Maggie knuckled on jumping and shortly after, was bumped by Longmu, which shifted in. Rider G Ryan stated at no stage of the race was his mount comfortable on the heavy track surface. He said that throughout the race, he continually pressured his mount to maintain its position which left My Maggie without a finishing effort over the final 200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr P Farrell endorsed the views of the G Ryan. He said that whilst the filly has some wet track form, he believed that today's conditions were far more demanding than what My Maggie had experienced in its previous performances on a wet track. He said at this stage, he will continue on

2 with My Maggie s preparation and he undertook to report back to the Stewards on the condition of My Maggie in the days subsequent. So Bizarre raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Popular from a wide barrier, shifted in behind runners in the early stages Furlana from a wide barrier, shifted in behind runners in the early stages. The Mighty Fed rounding the home turn, shifted to the outside of Mr Grumpy. At this time, Mr Grumpy then rolled out which resulted in The Mighty Fed being steadied, shifting out and making contact with Pierata, which in turn caused Argemone, which was following, to be steadied. B Shinn was advised to exercise care when improving into tight running. Argemone when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, J Ford said that whilst the mare had handled today's heavy track conditions, it nonetheless raced flat and in his opinion, although only having the one start, had come to the end of its preparation and this was the primary reason for Argemone s failure in today's race. Rounding the home turn, Argemone was awkwardly placed on the heels of Pierata, which shifted out sightly. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery. Stable representative Mr D Beadman advised that Argemone will now be spelled. So Bizarre over the concluding stages, was inclined to lay in when shifting away from Furlana, which resulted in its rider, for a short distance after the 100m, taking corrective measures to prevent the horse from shifting further ground. Orchestral Lass J Penza advised that Orchestral Lass never felt comfortable on today s surface and was particularly unbalanced behind when placed under pressure in the straight. Co-trainer Mr E Cummings said that he had been made aware by the rider that Orchestral Lass did not cope with today's heavy track and he believed that that was the principle reason for the filly tailing out. Mr Cummings undertook to report back to the Stewards if there was anything amiss with the filly in the days subsequent. RACE 2 Pluck@Vinery Handicap 1300m Lady Dane the Stewards considered an objection lodged by B El-Issa, rider of the second placegetter Lady Dane, against California Archer (K McEvoy) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference in the straight. On the evidence, it was established that approaching the 200m, Lady Dane, which was laying in when racing tight to the outside of California Archer, shifted in and bumped that horse, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. Lady Dane then continued to lay in, raced tight alongside California Archer, shifted in slightly, making contact with California Archer, which again became unbalanced. The Stewards were further of the view that passing the 100m, when under pressure, California Archer shifted out marginally carrying Lady Dane out slightly. Having regard to the shifts by both runners at various stages of the straight and the manner in which both horses closed off, the Stewards formed the view that had the occurrence not occurred, California Archer would have still finished ahead of Lady Dane and in the circumstances, dismissed the objection. Aviator when questioned, App J Innes Jr said that from a favourable barrier today, he had been asked to ride the colt positively and to ensure that it travelled on the testing conditions. He said that in the early stages, as there was no early speed, his mount settled just behind the leader, but when under pressure after the 300m, the colt failed to respond to his riding and weakened noticeably in the run to the line. Mr S Alexiou, representing trainer Mr G Ryan, said that consideration will be given to the immediate racing future of the colt and the stable will report back to the Stewards the connection's decision in the days subsequent. Smooth Whiskey from the outside barrier shifted in across behind runners. On straightening, Smooth Whiskey was shifted in to avoid the heels of On The Spot, which rolled out.

3 RACE 3 Vancouver@Coolmore Handicap 1600m Cross Stitch change of tactics to be more forward; led early stages, settled on pace from near the 1000m. G Schofield, the rider of third placegetter Cross Stitch, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b) in that he failed to ride that filly out to the end of the race. G Schofield s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 18 April 2017 and expire on Saturday 29 April 2017 on which day he may race again. My Friend Charlie change of tactics to be more forward; settled on pace. My Friend Charlie began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Power Law. Oklahoma Girl was slow to begin. Istria was steadied in the early stages from its wide barrier and was shifted in behind runners. Istria, after the 1000m, was left racing wide and without cover. Axiomatic raced wide without cover in the early stages before its rider H Bowman allowed the filly to stride forward and race closer to the rail approaching the 1000m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Power Law approaching the 1200m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of My Friend Charlie (J Victoire) which shifted in when not quite clear. J Victoire was advised to exercise care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Octavian Augustus stable representative Mr C Duckworth stated that on the advice from its rider K McEvoy that the gelding may benefit from the addition of blinkers, it is the stable s intention to remove the winkers and to apply to have blinkers fitted to Octavian Augustus and have the gelding back up at Canterbury on Monday, 17 April A post race veterinary of Octavian Augustus, which weakened over the concluding stages, revealed no abnormalities. RACE 4 TAB Handicap 1400m No When To Hold Em after breaking down on the home turn, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer, who found the horse to have sustained a catastrophic fracture to its off fore pastern. On humane grounds, No When To Hold Em was euthanised. After interviewing trainer Mr N Layt, rider T Clark and taking evidence from Stipendiary Steward Mr C Polglase, who inspected the relevant areas of the track, the matter was adjourned pending a report from the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Camden, where the horse will be transported to for autopsy. Mr Layt was asked to provide his veterinary and treatment records for the filly. The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed. Exitozo from an outside barrier, was shifted in across behind runners in the early stages. Rounding the home turn, Exitozo was held up. Miss Ballantine when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, H Bowman said the filly travelled satisfactorily outside the leader for the majority of the race, but when turning for home and placed under pressure, Miss Ballantine commenced to weaken and despite his riding, Miss Ballantine, over the final 200m, compounded. H Bowman said that he was unable to identify any specific adverse issues with Miss Ballantine, however, he was of the view that Miss Ballantine's action was not fluent and there may have been something amiss with the filly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The Stewards deemed the performance to be unsatisfactory and before Miss Ballantine is permitted to race again, it must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards and a veterinary clearance must be provided. Champagne Ready K McEvoy reported that his mount, whilst it travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race, was not suited by today's heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

4 RACE 5 Davali Thoroughbreds Handicap 1000m Kentucky Miss began very awkwardly, shifted out on jumping and made contact with Johnny Roo Boy. The filly then rebounded off that runner, shifted in and made heavy contact with Loverboy Charlie resulting in both runners becoming badly unbalanced. In this incident, App Innes Jr also became badly unbalanced. App J Innes Jr explained that after the incident at the start, the filly was not entirely free in its action for the major part of the race and when returning back to scale, he noted that he felt Kentucky Miss was short in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Pride was advised a veterinary clearance would be required before Kentucky Miss trials/races again. She Zar shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarter by Loverboy Charlie, which became unbalanced after being bumped by Kentucky Miss. Hot Hit H Bowman said that whilst he was aware the horse had been successful at its most recent start when racing back in the field, he had nonetheless been under no specific instructions today from his wide barrier other than to ensure that the horse, which has a long stride, is balanced on the heavy track conditions. He said that in the early stages, he was neutral on Hot Hit and as the gelding showed good gate speed in the early and middle stages - Hot Hit raced prominently, although wide and without cover. He said that in his view, however, at no stage did he feel that Hot Hit was comfortable in the going. He added that Hot Hit dipped on a number of occasions on the circle and in his view is a horse far better suited on firmer surfaces. Rose Of Man T Angland explained that whilst the mare has performed well and won on heavy track conditions, he said that today's surface was particularly shifting and that the mare in the testing ground was never comfortable and was a beaten horse prior to the home turn. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 6 TAB Rewards Handicap 1200m O Reilly Cyrus prior to the declaration of correct weight, K McEvoy, the rider of the fourth placegetter O Reilly Cyrus, viewed the official footage to ascertain whether he had sufficient grounds to lodge an objection against the third placegetter, Round Mountain Gal. K McEvoy, after viewing the final 50m of the race, declined to proceed with lodging an objection. When K McEvoy declined to lodge an objection, the Stewards then considered whether they ought to exercise their discretion and lodge an objection on behalf of the relevant fourth placegetter. In the circumstances, the Stewards found that near the 20m, Ground Mountain Gal shifted marginally and made slight contact with O'Reilly Cyrus. K McEvoy's decision did not influence the Stewards decision in not proceeding with lodging a formal objection, as they were of the view the occurrence did not materially affect the placings of the two horses. Shelley's Girl was slow to begin. Modha began awkwardly. When questioned, App J Innes Jr said that he began satisfactorily, however was beaten for early speed and settled behind midfield. He said that Modha, near the 800m, commenced to race keenly and had to be steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of O'Reilly Cyrus. He said that after the 600m, Modha commenced to travel well, but when asked for an effort near the 300m, failed to quicken and was disappointing In the manner in which it failed to quicken and was only one paced in the run to the line. Round Mountain Gal shortly after the start, was bumped by Modha, which shifted in. Near the 1000m, O'Reilly Cyrus shifted out slightly resulting in Round Mountain Gal, being hampered and carried wider. Dagny in the early and middle stages raced keenly. Brulee when questioned regarding the poor performance, B Shinn said that although his mount travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race, the filly never coped with the surface of today's track and he attributed this as the reason for the filly s giving ground in the run home.

5 RACE 7 Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap 1600m Duchess Kate on jumping was bumped by Last Try Wins, which shifted out Sovereignaire on jumping, was bumped by Duchess Kate, which shifted out and was then shifted in behind runners in the early stages. When questioned, P King advised that he had been under specific instructions from connections to come to the outside of horses and finish the race off towards the outside of the field. He said that in accordance with instructions, at the 500m he steadied his mount, shifted out across the heels of Xebec and proceeded to ride his mount to the outside and he immediately placed the horse under pressure. He said he shifted to the outside of the field and Sovereignaire finished the race off fairly. P King conceded that whilst he was aware the pattern of racing favoured horses to the inside today, and that if he had remained racing close to the running rail, he would have saved significant ground approaching and rounding the home turn, he, nonetheless, due to his explicit instructions, was obliged to ride the horse in the manner in which he did. A post race veterinary examination revealed Sovereignaire to have lost its off fore plate. So Willie raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Broadside when questioned, K McEvoy explained that he had been instructed that if possible he should be positioned prominently in today's race. He said that after beginning only fairly and assessing the composition of the field in the early stages, he endeavoured, after the 1400m, to take up a position behind Voilier. He said, however, at this time, the rider of Duchess Kate, which was positioned to his inside, maintained his position and as he was unable to clear that runner, Broadside was left racing three wide and without cover. He said that the tempo, in his view, was not particularly strong, and he was aware that Voilier was stepping up to the mile for the first time, he elected to allow his mount to gradually work forward in the hope that he would be able to cross Voilier and race outside the leader. He said, however, that when the rider of Voilier continued to hold its position, he was left racing wide and without cover throughout the race and was, therefore, unable to take up a position closer to the running rail. He said that whilst he did consider, after the 1000m, endeavouring to steady his mount to come back to race behind Voilier whilst still to its outside, he believed that this would not have been in the best interests of his mount. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 8 TAB.com.au Handicap 1300m Baby Don't Cry was slow to begin. Heartlings was slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination of Heartlings, which raced keenly when travelling wide and without cover for the major part of the race, revealed it to be lame in both fore legs. Trainer Mr K Parker was advised that Heartlings would now be required to compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and prior to that time, he is required to provide a veterinary clearance. All But Gone was slow to begin and then shifted in across heels in the early stages. Hill Spy from the outside barrier was shifted across behind in the early stages. Spy Decoder from the outside barrier was shifted across behind in the early stages. Jemadar J Doyle explained that immediately after the start, he felt that the gelding may have been galloped on behind and although it raced in a prominent position, it never travelled comfortably and at the 300m, he became concerned that something was amiss with the gelding and he eased Jemadar out of the race from that point on. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, other than it had lost its near fore plate. Mr D Beadman, representing trainer J O'Shea, undertook to report to the Stewards the condition of Jemadar in the days subsequent and he was advised that before Jemadar was permitted to trial or race again, a veterinary clearance must be produced. Timeless Prince consideration was given to an objection by the rider of the sixth placegetter, Timeless Prince, against Braces being declared the fifth placegetter on the grounds of alleged

6 interference at the 100m. The evidence established that approaching the 100m, Braces shifted in when not sufficiently clear of Timeless Prince, resulting in that runner having to be checked and directed out across the heels of Braces. Having regard to the interference suffered by Timeless Prince and the manner in which that gelding closed the race off, the Stewards upheld the objection and amended the places accordingly to read: 1 st Brigadoon Rise 2 nd Magic Dallas 3 rd All But Gone 4 th Baby Don t Cry 5 th Timeless Prince 6 th Braces At a subsequent inquiry, J Collett pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under 137(a) in that near the 100m by permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Timeless Prince resulting in the runner losing its running and having to be checked. J Collett s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday, 18 April 2017 and to expire on Wednesday, 26 April 2017 on which day he may ride again.
