Rail: True Penetrometer: 4.74 STEWARDS: P C Dingwall (Chairman), M F Van Gestel, T P Moxon, J J E Earl and cadets M W Purse and J P Dunn jl Supplementary Reports: ROYAL RANDWICK Saturday 29 September 2018 Race 8: The Heineken 3 Metropolitan 2400m Miss Admiration Stewards today acceded to an application from jockey D Holland to amend the terms of his improper riding suspension incurred in this event. Accordingly, D Holland's licence to ride in races is suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday 9 October 2018 and to expire on Tuesday, 30 October 2018, on which day he may ride. RACE 1: Everest Carnival Handicap 1300m Eighteen Carrot after being slow to begin, was crowded shortly after the start and lost further ground between Diplomatico and Costas, which shifted out. Then from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. When placed under pressure near the 200m shifted out abruptly, resulting in its rider having to correct his mount. Costas began only fairly, shifted out making slight contact with Eighteen Carrot. Near the 700m became awkwardly placed on the heels of Diplomatico and got its head up when being steadied. In this incident, when being steadied, Costas became unbalanced and shifted out. Diplomatico raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Near the 600m was eased to avoid the heels of Altair (H Bowman), which shifted in when not clear. H Bowman was advised to exercise care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Altair in the early and middle stages, after travelling wide and without cover, was permitted by its rider to improve and travel outside the leader Sir Owen near the 600m. Golden Shoulder a post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be slow to recover. Sir Owen a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

2 2 RACE 2: TAB Rewards Handicap 1300m Repute after being loaded, the filly, which kicked out behind and got its off-hind leg briefly caught in its rear gate, was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 1.22pm. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Repute be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 1.22pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket: 1 st Unguarded 2 cents win 3 cents place 2 nd Maggie Miss 2 cents place 3 rd Vitesse 3 cents place Co trainer Mr A Cummings was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required before the filly is permitted to race again. Collectivity began awkwardly and from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages Vitesse began only fairly. Maggie Miss raced wide and without cover throughout the event. The filly had an inclination over the final 150m to shift out when placed under pressure and then raced tight with Unguarded until approaching the 50m. Show Some Leg a post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages despite the rider's efforts to have his mount settle, revealed it to be 1/5 lame in the near-foreleg. Co-trainer Mr A Bott was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly racing again. Coco Diablo a post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be slow to recover. Alison Of Tuffy rider T Angland reported that he had some concerns with the action of the filly over the latter stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be 1/5 lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr P Robl was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly racing again. RACE 3: Australian Turf Club Handicap 1550m Smooth Whiskey trainer Mr C Waller was fined the sum of $100 under AR140A for presenting the gelding with other than its approved gear. Spring Charlie slow to begin. Highway slow to begin. For some distance approaching the 1200m, when being steadied to obtain cover behind Smooth Whiskey, proved difficult to settle. Omineca approaching the 150m was checked when disappointed for a run between Makdanife and Highway, which itself was taken out slightly by Smooth Whiskey. App. S Weatherley (Spring Charlie) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that over the final 50m he permitted his mount to shift out under pressure, when not clear of Omenica, resulting in Omineca having to be checked near the 30m. App. Weatherley's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 7 October 2018 and to expire on Friday, 12 October 2018, on which day he may ride. When questioned, rider H Bowman explained that he had been asked to ride the filly from its wide barrier

3 3 conservatively today if possible. He said that from the 500m Omineca was only travelling fairly when trailing Makdanife and for this reason he did not commit to an alternate position, other than to remain behind that horse with a view to providing his mount with the best option entering the straight. He said that when Makdanife shifted out slightly on straightening, he elected to allow his mount to roll in and pursue runs through the field in the home straight. He said however his mount, which was closing the race off strongly, received interference near the 150m and again near the 50m, which severely compromised his finishing position. Stewards advised H Bowman that in retrospect he should have shifted to the outside of Makdanife just prior to straightening, and whilst the Stewards did not consider, having regard to his explanation, the decision to obtain runs through the field was unreasonable, it was nonetheless the lesser of the two options available to him prior to straightening and he should ensure in future he positions his mounts so as to provide them with the best opportunity to finish their races off. Weekend Affair a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which raced keenly in the early and middle stages, did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 4: ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap 1400m Velocita slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Savacool after being slow to begin, from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Whilst closing the race off strongly shifted in near the 100m under pressure, resulting in its rider having to take corrective measures to straighten his mount. Union Dues after being slow to begin, from the outside barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. La Chica Bella when questioned, App. S Weatherley stated that he was able to obtain a prominent position as anticipated. He said his mount travelled satisfactorily until approaching the 300m when it came under pressure, whereby the mare did not respond and weakened noticeably over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Pride advised that he would now confer with the owners of La Chica Bella regarding its immediate racing future. The matter was adjourned pending the advice from Mr Pride. Tinkermosa a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 5: TAB Handicap 1000m And So It Goes slow to begin (2L). Held up on straightening until near the 300m and was shifted to the inside of Phuket to improve. Passing the 200m was closing the race off strongly and was steadied when disappointed for a run between Discussions and All Stand, which shifted in slightly. As a result the mare became awkwardly placed on the heels of All Stand and was briefly hampered. And So It Goes then continued to experience difficulty in obtaining clear running when racing tight inside All Stand for the remainder of the event. Close to the winning post And So It Goes shifted out slightly and was again steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of All Stand. November Man when questioned, rider T Berry explained that it was anticipated that the gelding would travel prominently, however he was under specific instructions to achieve this without having to make use of his mount. He said that in the early stages November Man

4 4 from the outside barrier did not show a great deal of gate speed, and when it became apparent that if he maintained his position he would travel wide and without cover outside All Stand, he elected after the 900m to shift behind Sweetest Eyes to obtain cover. He added that in the straight, when commencing to close the race off well, November Man was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 300m, obliging him to change the whip into his right hand approaching the 200m. T Berry did indicate that November Man was somewhat difficult for him to ride in his normal manner over the latter stages. Phuket a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was making an upper respiratory noise. Trainer Mr A Denham was advised he must produce a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to Phuket racing again. RACE 6: #Theraces Handicap 1800m Estikhraaj from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Royal Stamp raced wide and without cover throughout the event. All Too Huiying a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Amanito when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider T Berry stated that in his view the gelding wasn t entirely suited when racing to the inside of runners today as opposed to when it was successful at its most recent start. He said nonetheless he did not attribute this to the manner in which the gelding weakened in the straight. He added that passing the winning post he noted that Amanito was making an abnormal respiratory noise. Although a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities, co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required, including the results of an endoscopic examination, prior to Amanito being permitted to race again. Cosmologist when questioned, App. S Weatherley stated that his mount after the 600m was pressured when All Too Huiying improved to his outside, which resulted in him having to make his run just prior to the home turn to maintain his position. He said the step up in distance today, coupled with being pressured from the 600m on today s firm surface were factors, which contributed to the gelding weakening significantly over the final 100m. A postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Darci's Affair a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 7: Flying Handicap 1000m Petrossian as the start was effected reared, resulting in its rider App. F Kersley becoming dislodged and as a consequence Petrossian completed the course riderless. The Perry stable representative was advised that the gelding would have to perform satisfactorily in two consecutive barrier trials prior to being permitted to race again. Firsthand slow to begin. Laid in approaching and rounding the home turn. Approaching the 50m was inconvenienced when carried wider as Boss Land (A Adkins) shifted out under pressure. A Adkins immediately corrected his mount to alleviate the tightening to Firsthand. Near the 50m was struck over the head by the whip of W Costin (Super Too). Dissolute raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

5 5 Drachenfels over the final 50m raced in restricted room between Dissolute and the riderless Petrossian and close to the winning post had to be eased to avoid the heels of Petrossian, which shifted in. Super Too rider W Costin explained that the mare over the final 50m did not feel fluent in its action and she was concerned that something may have been amiss with Super Too in the run to the line. Although a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, trainer Mr M Connors was advised a veterinary clearance would be required before Super Too is permitted to race again. Nictock a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was galloped on to the offfore cannon. RACE 8: tab.com.au Handicap 1400m Manhattan Mist the gelding, which got its off-hind leg up on the running board was removed and examined behind the barriers by the Club's Veterinary Officer who deemed it suitable to race. Renewal - slow to begin. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, T Berry stated, although his mount began only fairly, he was able to offset this by taking up a midfield position without having to pressure it. He said, however his Renewal was only one-paced in the straight and weakened over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes advised that he will assess the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent and a decision will be made regarding its immediate racing future. The matter was adjourned pending the advice from Mr Hawkes. Dissolution after being slow to begin, was crowded between Absolute and Level Eight, which shifted in. Live And Free began awkwardly and from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. When questioned, rider J McDonald stated the gelding, which was resuming from a spell, raced dour today and would benefit with additional distance at its future starts. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Temprado from the outside wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Gitan- from its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Nicochet raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 800m was shifted out when bumped by Gitan, which itself shifted ground. Level Eight near the 700m was left racing wide and without cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding lost it's off-fore plate in running. Sky Boy near the 600m when laying in struck the running rail and became badly unbalanced. Renewal, Dissolute and Live And Free, which were following, were steadied as a consequence. Sky Boy commenced to lay in over the final 300m and proved somewhat reluctant to shift to the outside of Signore Fox approaching the 100m.

6 6 Chapelco close to the 100m was struck across the nose by the whip of C Brown (Signore Fox). Absolute rider T Angland explained the gelding raced fiercely throughout the middle stages of the race and despite his efforts to have it settle became awkwardly placed on the heels of Manhattan Mist for some distance near the 600m. GENERAL: A routine inspection of the saddling stalls identified the presence of four syringes in the race day bag of trainer Mr L Hilton. The inquiry was adjourned pending the results of the analysis of the residue present in two of the open and used syringes, which were found in Mr Hilton's race day gear. Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken. Race 1 J McDonald (Costas) 6 strikes prior to the 100m. Race 2 K McEvoy (Vitesse) 6 strikes prior to the 100m. Race 3: Spring Charlie (2), So Bizarre, Highway (2), Weekend Affair, Omineca. Race 4: Feelin The Love, Invictum Domina (2), Vinnie Power, Tinkermosa, Savacool. Race 5: And So It Goes, Sweetest Eyes, Arizona Wildcat, November Man. Race 6: Darci's Affair, All Too Huiying, Amanito, Cosmologist, Gamblestown, The Bandit, Estikhraaj. Race 7: Super Too, Drachenfels, Nictock, Dissolute. Race 8: Dissolution, Temprado, Gitan, Signore Fox (2), Chapelco.
