Rail: +3m Penetrometer: 5.49 STEWARDS: M F Van Gestel (Chairman), C G Polglase, J J E Earl and cadets R W Loughlin and J A Dinopoulous (alm) Supplementary Reports: WARWICK FARM: Saturday, 22 December 2018 RACE Membership Handicap 2110m The Bandit - trainer Mr R Freedman reported that The Bandit had pulled up with no abnormalities, however as the gelding had been in work for some time, he has elected to freshen The Bandit up before its next race start. Keep Up trainer Ms C Cunningham advised she was satisfied with the post race condition of the gelding but it had now been spelled. RACE 6 TAB Rewards Handicap 1400m Velocita trainer Mr C Waller advised that he was satisfied with the post race condition of Velocita, but confirmed it would now been spelled. Bella Success trainer Mr C Waller advised that Bella Success had recovered satisfactorily from the race and he would now freshen up Bella Success for its next race start. RACE 7 December Handicap 1400m Test The World Mr J Bruce, representing trainer B Baker advised that he was satisfied with the post race condition of the gelding and will continue with its preparation. RACE 8 TAB Handicap 1300m Lilith - trainer Mr A Denham reported he was satisfied with the post race condition of Lilith, however the filly had now been spelled. LATE RIDING CHANGES: As K Jennings had been previously engaged to fulfil rides at the Newcastle meeting today, the Stewards permitted the following rider substitution: Race 2 Diamond Thunder R Bayliss The explanation tendered by trainer Mr M Newnham was accepted. As App R Prest was indisposed following a race fall at the Wagga meeting on 24 December 2018, the following rider substitutions were permitted by the Stewards: Race 4 Race 8 Ottamae B Ryan Zidane B Ryan As A Adkins was indisposed, the Stewards permitted the following rider substitution:

2 Race 7 Roman Son R Bayliss (and 1/2kg overweight) RACE 1 TAB Handicap 1600m Zalatte shifted in on jumping and made contact with Snippetspeed. Snippetspeed near the 1400m was steadied to avoid the heels of Welsh Legend (J Ford) which shifted in when not quite clear. J Ford was advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when he crosses other riders in future. RACE 2 #Theraces Handicap 1100m Diamond Thunder the colt, which was fractious in the parade ring and kicked out and made contact with a perimeter fence, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Diamond Thunder, under pressure in the straight, raced greenly and was inclined to shift ground which resulted in it being difficult to fully test over the final 200m. Hafaawa the filly, which became fractious in the barrier stalls, lunged forward and made contact with the front gate, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race. Chasing Comets after being slow to begin, despite being ridden along, failed to muster speed in the early stages and was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Throughout the early and middle stages raced greenly and for some distance near the 600m was steadied from the heels of Dolci. Bacchus shortly after the start was hampered and taken in by Diamond Thunder, which laid in. Near the 600m, commenced to race keenly, was steadied from the heels of Intimidating and shifted out resulting in Pin Sec being hampered when taken wider. Bacchus, near the 250m, was hampered and taken in by Pin Sec. Pin Sec raced wide and without cover throughout the early and middle stages. Jailbreak raced wide and without cover throughout the early and middle stages. Near the 100m, shifted in and away from Bacchus resulting in Jailbreak then being steadied from the heels of Hafaawa, which shifted out slightly. Dolci overraced in the middle stages. Rocketing To Win rider C Reith advised that he expected to lead on the colt today but after being slow to begin was obligated to take up a position behind the leader, Diamond Thunder, where he was able to obtain cover. He added that Rocketing To Win was inclined to race greenly throughout the event and then did not respond to his riding in the straight and was somewhat disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Intimidating App S Weatherley reported that the colt raced strongly in the event, but when under pressure on straightening was unable to take advantage of a run that developed between Jailbreak and Hafaawa when his mount did not quicken as he would have liked. He said in the straight he had some concerns with the gelding's action, particularly over the final 200m when it commenced to weaken. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr K Lees was advised a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the colt's next race start. RACE 3 Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap 2400m Quality Approach after being slow to begin was then hampered shortly after the start by Go One More, which shifted out slightly. Rider C Brown stated that whilst he was able to take up a forward position outside the early leader, Go One More, Quality Approach raced too keenly in the run and as a consequence, did not finish its race off. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

3 Devil's Lair missed the start slightly. Red Dream when the tempo steadied approaching the 2100m, Curata Princess commenced to race keenly, was steadied off the heels of Equipped and simultaneously shifted in crowding Red Dream, which had to be steadied. Equipped raced keenly in the early stages. Equipped raced wide and without cover until near the 1200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed Equipped to be lame (2/5) in the off fore leg. Stable representative Mr C Ashby was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the gelding's next race start. Just Dylan after being crossed by Diamond Made near the 2100m had to be steadied when Diamond Made was steadied in front. Just Dylan raced keenly in the early stages and near the 1800m was checked from the heels of Diamond Made. Diamond Made when questioned regarding his mount racing more forward, App J Van Overmeire stated he had no specific instructions, but from a wide draw, he elected to ride forward and cross runners to his inside rather than being obliged to race too far back in the field. Diamond Made held up for clear running until near the 250m before being shifted out to secure clear running. Inside the 100m, Diamond Made was held up on the heels of Just Dylan before shifting to that runner's inside approaching the 50m to secure clear running. He's Imposing rider J Collett stated his intentions were to take up a position midfield and as a consequence, in the early stages he endeavoured to follow Equipped, which he had anticipated taking up a forward position. He said that when Equipped did not go forward as he anticipated, and the tempo steadied approaching the first turn, He's Imposing was shuffled further back than what he had anticipated settling. Knight Star a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than the gelding had lost its off fore plate in running. RACE 4 Australian Turf Club Handicap 1100m Nicconita slow to begin. For some distance approaching the 300m was held up for clear running. Sophiella raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. Ottamae jumped awkwardly and lost ground. A post race veterinary examination revealed Ottamae to be lame (1/5) in the near fore leg. Trainer Mr M Smith was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to Ottamae s next race start. Mileage raced keenly in the middle stages. Approaching the 900m was bumped on the hindquarter by I Am Special and became unbalanced. Mileage was held up for clear running until early part of the straight until the 300m. I Am Special approaching the 900m, was crowded between Mileage and Sophiella, which after being bumped by Musical Genius (App R Dolan) shifted in away from that runner. App Dolan was advised to exercise more care. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be making an abnormal respiratory and had a poor post race recovery. Trainer Mr G Ryan was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, must be provided prior to I Am Special racing again. Mr Ryan advised that the mare will now be spelled. Phoebe s Lass a post race veterinary examination of the mare, which was obliged to race wide and without cover from the 700m, revealed no abnormalities. Luskintyre Lass near the 100m was shifted to the outside of Musical Genius to obtain clear running.

4 RACE 5 ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap 1100m Saint Antonio Lad slow to begin. That Song after being slow to begin was then bumped on jumping by The Runner, which shifted in. From its wide barrier was shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Black Magnum began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Above And Beyond. Silver Melody overraced in the lead. The Runner raced wide and without cover throughout the event. On the home turn, The Runner was inclined to lay out and on straightening was hampered when taken wider by Above And Beyond, which shifted out. Near the 250m, The Runner was placed in restricted room to the inside of Black Magnum, which shifted in slightly. Emergent after being held up in the early part of the straight, was then disappointed for running between Above And Beyond and The Runner near the 300m and was shifted out to secure clear running. When being shifted out, rider J Collett was obliged to stop riding and correct his mount to avoid shifting out into the line of Saint Antonio Lad. Don't Doubt Arthur rider J Ford reported that inside the 200m, Don't Doubt Arthur shifted in towards the running rail and became unbalanced which resulted in him having to stop riding for a number of strides. Whiteley after being held up for clear running in the early part of the straight, approaching the 200m had to be checked when disappointed for clear running between Silver Melody, which shifted in slightly, and Partners (App J Van Overmeire), which shifted out. After considering the evidence, the Stewards issued a reprimand against App Van Overmeire when they found that approaching the 200m Partners commenced to shift in crowding the running of Don't Doubt Arthur, which resulted in App Van Overmeire stopping riding and straightening his mount which had the effect of Partners shifting out across the running of Whiteley. RACE 6 Hyland Boxing Day Sale Handicap 1600m Another Snappy raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Stryke Rock slow to begin. Rider T Marquand was cautioned against the practice of raising his whip arm above shoulder height. A post race veterinary examination revealed Stryke Rock to be lame (1/5) in the off fore leg. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the gelding's next race start. The Promise slow to begin. Kelvinside began awkwardly and made contact with Another Snappy before being shifted in behind runners in the early stages. When questioned regarding his riding out over the final 300m, rider A Hyeronimus stated that approaching the 300m, his mount commenced to improve into the event to the outside of Cyber Intervention. He said that when that runner commenced to shift out, he became placed close to the heels of Cyber Intervention and contemplated shifting to that runner's inside passing the 200m as he felt it was going to continue to shift out. He stated for this reason he remained racing directly behind Cyber Intervention for some distance before improving to that runner's outside approaching the 50m when Cyber Intervention straightened at that point whereby Kelvinside finished the race off strongly. Nicochet overraced in the early and middle stages. Nicochet was held up making the home turn and in the early part of the straight and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 300m. Tahsin when being ridden out near the 200m, shifted out abruptly resulting in its rider, App J Van Overmeire, having to stop riding and straighten.

5 Wokurna rider J McDonald advised that he could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance of the gelding and stated his mount was under pressure soon after passing the 600m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr G Ryan advised that Wokurna would now be spelled. Sir Barb when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, App R Dolan indicated that his mount was under pressure when the tempo increased from the 600m and did not respond to his riding from any point thereafter. A post race veterinary revealed Sir Barb to be lame (1/5) in the near fore leg. Trainer Ms C Cunningham was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to Sir Barb racing again. RACE 7 Summer Cup 2000m Aloisia trainer Mr C Maher was interviewed relative to the scratching of the mare today. Mr Maher advised that Aloisia had been kicked by another horse in the shoulder region during the lead up to today's race which necessitated it being withdrawn on veterinary advice. Mr Maher was reminded of his obligations under AR140(a) to inform Stewards of any occurrence which may affect the performance of a horse. Mr Maher was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for the mare prior to it being permitted to race again. Alward which was fractious in the barriers, jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with Fierce Impact and lost ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, J Ford stated that the gelding pulled hard throughout the event and as a result, leaving the 800m he elected to allow his mount to stride forward to improve into the race. He said after improving past the winner, Fierce Impact, leaving the 600m, Alward became under pressure entering the straight and weakened from that point. A post race veterinary examination revealed Alward to be lame (1/5) in the off fore leg. Trainer Mr C Waller stated that in his view Alward was not assisted by pulling hard in the event but would now be spelled. Roman Son shifted out at the start and lost ground. Roman Son was held up for clear running in the early part of the straight before shifting to the inside of Life Less Ordinary near the 200m. Black On Gold near the 800m, Abdon, which overraced throughout, was steadied from the heels of Life Less Ordinary, and shifted out resulting in Black On Gold being hampered when taken wider. Fierce Impact leaving the 600m, Alward improved to the outside of Fierce Impact resulting in Fierce Impact then having to be steadied to avoid the heels of Grande Rosso, which commenced to give ground at that point. Goodfella near the 200m was briefly crowded between Alward and Roman Son, which shifted in. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. My Nordic Hero rider J McDonald stated the only explanation he could offer was that My Nordic Hero was not suited by racing back in the field today and found it difficult to make up ground. Trainer Mr C Waller concurred with the views of J McDonald and indicated that the horse's relatively big weight today did not assist its chances. A post race veterinary examination revealed My Nordic Hero to be displaying the thumps. Mr Waller undertook to report back on the condition of My Nordic Hero in the days subsequent. RACE 8 Boxing Day Sprint 1200m Professor Marx began awkwardly and lost ground. You Make Me Smile began awkwardly and shifted in. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Over the final 200m was inclined to lay out under pressure. Crafty Tycoon was shifted in behind runners in the early stages.

6 Professor Marx was held up until near the 300m. Zidane after improving into a narrow run between Connemara and Crafty Tycoon near the 350m, was then hampered when bumped by Crafty Tycoon approaching the 250m. Juventus was held up making the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Near the 300m was inconvenienced when disappointed for a run between Legerity and You Make Me Smile. Legerity rider J Collett stated he was able to cross to the front where he controlled the tempo but he was disappointed with its finishing effort as it weakened noticeable over the final 200m. Trainer Ms C Cunningham advised, as detailed in the Stewards report on 30 November that Legerity had pulled up lame in its near hind leg following its first up performance, which had been cleared by a stable veterinarian. A post race veterinary examination revealed Legerity to be lame (2/5) in the near fore leg. Ms Cunningham undertook to report back on the progress of Legerity in the days subsequent and was required to provide a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. El Dorado Mine a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Ms C Cunningham undertook to report back on the condition of El Dorado Mine in the days subsequent. Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: Zalatte, Snippetspeed, Welsh Legend (2). Race 2: Bacchus, Rocketing To Win, Hafaawa, Olympic. Race 3: Tunero, Knight Star, Diamond Made, Go One Better, Devil s Lair. Race 4: I Am Special, Mileage, Ottamae, Sophiella. Race 5: Whiteley, Saint Antonio Lad, Wonderbabe, The Runner, Black Magnum. Race 6: Sir Barb, Nicochet, Another Snappy, Appoint Percy, Stryke Rock, Kelvinside. Race 7: Life Less Ordinary, My Nordic Hero, Alward, Goodfella, Roman Son, Fierce Impact, Satono Rasen. Race 8: Zidane (2), Crafty Tycoon, You Make Me Smile, Juventus, Almalac Millie.
