1 1 STEWARDS REPORT Australian Turf Club ROYAL RANDWICK RACECOURSE Monday 25 April 2016 Weather: Fine Track: Soft (7) Rail: +12m 1600m to WP; + 6m remainder Penetrometer: 5.96 STEWARDS: G T Rudolph (Chairman), R P Murrihy, M F Van Gestel and cadets T A McDonald and M G Porlezza (jl) Supplementary Reports: ROSEHILL GARDENS Saturday 23 April 2016 Race 1: Hyland Race Colours Handicap 1200m Wudang Mountain trainer Mr C Waller reported that the colt was found to have bled from both nostrils following the race when it returned to the stables. Wudang Mountain will incur the mandatory three month bar from racing under AR53A. Race 2: Vinery Handicap 1100m Mooshakissa co-trainer Mr P Snowden advised that the filly was sore behind and will undergo some chiropractic work. He undertook to provide a veterinary clearance prior to the filly's next race start. Race 5: Schweppes Handicap 1500m Chandana trainer Mr C Waller reported that a scope of the filly had revealed some mucous in the trachea and will be treated with a course of antibiotics. Mr Waller indicated Chandana will be freshened up. Race 9: tab.com.au Handicap 1100m Tahitian Black trainer Mr D Pfieffer reported the gelding had pulled up well and a decision had been made to retire Tahitian Black. RACE 1: Anzac Day Handicap 1400m Flaunting rider G Schofield requested behind the barrier that the neck strap be removed and a breast plate added to the gear of the filly. The Stewards acceded to the request. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, G Schofield stated that the principal reasons were that the filly, which was second up today and stepping up in distance, did not handle the soft track conditions. He added that Flaunting was beaten shortly after entering the straight and, although briefly crowded for room when Princess Vein was taken in by I Told Georgie near the 200m, his mount was beaten and did not respond thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller advised that he would drop Flaunting back in grade and attempt to ride with cover at its next start.

2 2 Mon Bel Ami when questioned, rider J Penza stated his instructions were to ride the filly quietly today. Trainer Mr L Curtis confirmed the instructions and stated it was not his intention for the filly to have led at Orange at its most recent start when third on 19 April Nevertheless Mr Curtis was reminded of his obligations to notify the Stewards of any change in tactics. RACE 2: 1 st Light Horse Plate 1400m Blue Seal hampered on jumping when Polemic shifted out. Argentina rider B Avdulla reported the colt was coughing on pulling up. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Peter Snowden reported Argentina would be spelled. RACE 3: HMAS Australia (1) Handicap 1400m Lightning Lockie behind the barriers it was reported the gelding had a laceration to the mouth. Lightning Lockie was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a loose temporary upper incisor tooth. Go Benny hampered approaching the 1300m when Sea Sharp ran out away from Captain Jazz, resulting in Go Benny and Sea Sharp becoming unbalanced. Held up in the early part of the straight. Approaching the 200m was disappointed to a run between Captain Jazz and Lightning Lockie. Go Benny was then badly held up and did not obtain clear running until inside the 100m when it had to alter course to the outside of the heels of Sea Sharp to find clear running. Harissa for some distance passing the 150m was obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of Lethal Dream, which shifted in when weakening. RACE 4: First Battle of the Somme Handicap 1200m Celtic Kiss missed the start (8L). Trainer Ms G Englebrecht was advised that the mare must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to being permitted to race again. Kind Heart jumped awkwardly. Rider App. K Jennings stated he had to restrain his mount in order to find cover and got back further than he intended. He added, after travelling a short distance, he noticed that the mare was making a respiratory noise and this continued throughout the event and following the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small wound to the inside of the off-fore fetlock. Trainer Mr J Thompson was advised he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance, including a scope, prior to Kind Heart racing again. The Iron Maiden passing the 600m got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance after being crossed by Jeans Flyer. Seeking Asylum overraced in the middle stages and rider App. S Clenton reported her mount laid out throughout the race, particularly in the straight and, therefore, proved difficult to fully ride out in the straight. RACE 5: Australian Flying Corps Handicap 1800m

3 3 Princess Aria shortly after the start was crowded between All About Magic and High Wind. At the 600m, after improving up onto the heels of High Wind, had to be checked away from that runner's heels when Assertive Star commenced to weaken in front of High Wind. Rider J Penza stated the filly travelled well in the run and, although he had to steady at the 600m and commence a wide run, his mount was disappointing in its failure to run on. He added he believed the tempo of the race had not suited Princess Aria and it was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight, particularly over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. High Wind had to be steadied and shifted to the outside of Assertive Star passing the 500m. Cash Strapped rider App. S Clenton stated that the principal reason she attributed to the gelding's disappointing performance was that it did not run out a strong 1800m and she opined that it would be better suited dropping back in distance on a firmer track. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Muzyka rider T Clark stated that the filly, which overraced throughout, did not respond to his riding when placed under pressure and was inclined to lay in at the entrance to the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be mildly lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr G Ryan agreed with T Clark that the filly's chances were not assisted by the tempo. He was asked nevertheless to provide a veterinary clearance prior to Muzyka's next start. Mr Ryan indicated that he would consider dropping the filly back in distance. RACE 6: Tommy Hill Memorial Handicap 2000m Ghost Protocol as T Clark was overweight, Stewards permitted S Lisnyy to be substituted as the rider of the gelding. T Clark was fined $200 under AR120(b). The gelding, which was slow to begin, was crowded shortly after the start between Faust, which shifted out, and Do You Remember. Destiny's Kiss approaching the 100m, after being directed in by Lady Le Fay, made contact with Weary and became unbalanced. Faust near the 300m, when weakening, was briefly crowded between Do You Remember and Tremec. Hawkspur rider J Collett explained that he had to adjust his offside iron with his hand near the 1000m. He added he then had to make some use of his mount to circle the field approaching the turn and into the straight, however, Hawkspur did not let down under its top weight of 61.5 kilograms. RACE 7: 3 rd Australian General Hospital (AGH) Nurses Handicap 1000m King's Tariff the start was delayed for approximately 4½ minutes when the gelding lost its off-fore plate and was required to be replated behind the barriers. Supply And Demand jumped awkwardly and made contact with Duty Dude and then was briefly crowded shortly after the start between Duty Dude and Sangiovese. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.

4 4 Duty Dude approaching the 200m had to be steadied away from the heels of Sangiovese (J Collett), which shifted out to improve around the heels of Louisiana Rouge. J Collett was advised to exercise more care when attempting similar manoeuvres. Lion Couchant a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Beau Tirage approaching the 100m had to be steadied when crowded for room initially when Sangiovese shifted out and shortly thereafter when Supply And Demand shifted in slightly. RACE 8: The Last Post Handicap 1400m Moray ran out passing the 1200m, making contact with Loud Debate. Near the 100m Moray and Loud Debate made contact due to both runners shifting ground under pressure. Perfect Weapon overraced in the early stages. Held up in the early part of the straight and was disappointed for a run between Alfred The Great and Loud Debate approaching the 300m. Perfect Weapon was not tested thereafter. Roman Odyssey- for some distance leading up to and passing the 1000m pulled hard and was inclined to overrace. Dure near the 300m attempted a narrow run between Moray and Roman Odyssey. Dure was then inconvenienced between Roman Odyssey and Moray (A Layt), which shifted in, and then a short distance later Moray was unable to relieve the pressure, due to Loud Debate (App. D Panya) shifting in slightly under pressure. Both A Layt and App. D Panya were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances when their mounts begin to shift. Liberty Island held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight was awkwardly placed on the heels of Alfred The Great when Perfect Weapon shifted out slightly. Liberty Island was again in restricted room approaching the 200m and became unbalanced when bumped by Alfred The Great, which shifted out slightly. Bonus Spin had some difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 200m where it had to alter course to the extreme outside of runners to continue into clear running, whereby it ran home well. Alfred The Great weakened after racing wide throughout. Rider S Clipperton reported his mount did not handle the soft going. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. GENERAL: Rider sampling was conducted at Royal Randwick today, with samples from eight riders being taken and forwarded to the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory for testing for banned substances. Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners: Race 1: Princess Vein, I Told Georgie, Mon Bel Ami. Race 2: Blue Seal, Earth, Argentina. Race 3: Lethal Dream, Red Knot, Go Benny. Race 4: Kokomo, Seeking Asylum, The Iron Maiden, Keikosan.

5 5 Race 5: Power Of Patch, Assertive Star, Cash Strapped, Raise The Limit, High Wind. Race 6: Do You Remember, Bold Sniper, Lady Le Fay (2), Faust, Weary. Race 7: King's Tariff, Monsieur Affaire, Beau Tirage. Race 8: Bonus Spin, Alfred The Great, Zabeelions.
