Rail: +5m 1000m to WP; +3m remainder Penetrometer: 4.89 STEWARDS: P C Dingwall (Chairman), R W Livingstone, T J Carlton, J J E Earl and cadets C K McIntosh and R T Debels jl RACE 1: tab.com.au Plate 1200m Excellent Design began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in Irish Success and Kookabaa being crowded for room. Kookabaa was then taken out onto Temprado, which was also hampered. Reflectivity slow to begin. Salvador slow to begin. Near the 1000m the gelding, which was racing keenly, became awkwardly placed on the heels of Reflectivity and was steadied. Near the 150m Reflectivity shifted out slightly and inconvenienced Salvador, which was commencing to close the race off well. Salvador then became unbalanced approaching the 50m when endeavouring to improve between Irish Success and Reflectivity. Temprado rider B Shinn explained that his mount could not match the early speed of the race and travelled some distance off the bulk of the field. He said he was able to encourage the gelding to gradually make up ground, whereby approaching the home turn he had rejoined the rear of the field. He added approaching and rounding the home turn he commenced to ride his mount along and placed it under significant pressure and, after shifting to the outside of runners in the home straight, his mount closed the race off reasonably, although he did indicate that it may have peaked on its run prior to the winning post. Kookabaa laid in in the early part of the straight, resulting in its rider T Angland changing his whip over to his right hand after the 200m. Kookabaa continued to lay in over the latter stages, obliging its rider to correct his mount and as a result the gelding was not ridden out as it normally would be in the run to the post. Irish Success close to the winning post shifted out away from Salvador and made heavy contact with Balearic. When questioned, rider B Spriggs explained that the gelding has been inclined to lay out in its races and for this reason it was decided to apply blinkers at its most recent start to ensure it raced tractably, which proved successful. He said today, however making the turn after the 600m, his mount commenced to hang out, shifted ground away from the eventual winner and leader Excellent Design. He added the intensity of Irish Success hanging, increased rounding the home turn, whereby his mount shifted out further, which enabling Reflectivity to improve to his inside. B Spriggs further stated that Irish Success

2 2 continued to hang out on straightening, but had rectified this trait somewhat in the straight, whereby it raced more genuinely in the run to the post. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr M Smith was advised a warning would be placed against the racing manners of Irish Success and if the gelding was to perform similarly in the near future consideration would be given to having it perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial. Regal Cannon rider T Clark was reprimanded under 137A(4)(c) for use of the whip on the gelding when out of contention. In assessing this course of conduct, Stewards were mindful that this was the first time T Clark had been spoken to in this regard. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 2: Book ATC Summer Hospitality Today Handicap 1600m Deladies Boy shifted its near-hind plate in the tie-up stalls, which was refitted prior to entering the parade ring. Deladies Boy then underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. When questioned, rider B Shinn stated, after settling in last position, his mount commenced to lose touch with the field mid race and he was obliged to commence riding it along earlier than was preferable. He said the colt did not respond at any stage to his urgings and was under heavy pressure prior to the home turn. He added Deladies Boy did not travel throughout event, took no interest in the race and over the latter stages he had some concerns in respect to the action of the colt. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden stated the colt can be somewhat disingenuous in its performances, but he felt it was not suited by having to be made some use of in the early and middle stages to stay in touch with the field. He said he would step it up in distance at its next start, whereby it will be able to be ridden closer to midfield in races where the tempo in all likelihood would not be as strong. Mr Snowden was advised that a warning would be recorded against the gelding and was told if it performs similarly in future it may be required to barrier trial. Mr Snowden was also advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Deladies Boy racing again. Amanito slow to begin. Near the 100m Aminito and Jolly Honour made contact due to both horses shifting ground slightly. Cool Dude Ausbred after the 1400m commenced to race fiercely and got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle. After the 1200m the rider of the colt elected to allow it to stride forward and ultimately take up the lead soon after. Rockin' Ruga when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider T Clark stated, after knuckling over at the start, his mount was then able to take up a forward position, but he believed its chances were somewhat hampered in the race due to Cool Dude Ausbred racing alongside his mount and setting a genuine tempo in the early and middle stages than was desirable. He said after Cool Dude Ausbred crossed him near the 800m, Rockin' Ruga travelled comfortably. He added the gelding being up in distance, grade and weight were facts that may have mitigated its ability to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying heat stress. Co-trainer Mr A Bott was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Rockin' Ruga racing again. RACE 3: TAB Handicap 1100m Blowing Kisses began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarter by Leami Astray. In the home straight Nonpareil (G Schofield) laid in, shifted ground and bumped Blowing Kisses, which became unbalanced. G Schofield was advised

3 3 to exercise care and that he should have in the circumstances stopped riding and corrected his mount prior to making contact with Blowing Kisses. For a short distance after the 50m Blowing Kisses and Nonpareil raced tight due to Nonpareil continuing to lay in, resulting in Blowing Kisses not being able to be ridden out as effectively as it normally would be in the circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Leami Astray on jumping made contact with Nonpareil. Approaching and rounding the home turn commenced to lay out, carrying Blowing Kisses out onto Nonpareil, resulting in those horses making heavy contact and becoming unbalanced. Non-Pareil on jumping made contact with Leami Astray. Missile Coda shortly after the start was steadied when Lake Lugarno shifted out. Unable to muster speed despite the efforts of its rider in the early stages. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden advised, after viewing the official footage, the mare settled further back in the field due to the circumstances outlined. Mr Snowden was advised that the brow band appeared to be not fitted securely and he was advised that he must address this issue prior the mare's next start. Lucky Lugarno after being ridden along in the early stages to take up the lead, commenced to race fiercely and despite the efforts of its rider would not settle and set a fast tempo throughout the middle stages. After the 300m shifted in and became unbalanced when running close to the running rail. When under pressure shifted in slightly approaching the 60m. RACE 4: #Theraces Handicap 1000m Rose Of Man knuckled on jumping. Raced wide and without cover throughout. Gendebein began awkwardly. Walk Right In from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Adjective after the 700m was bumped and carried to a position closer to the running rail when Mana shifted in to obtain cover. Over the concluding stages was awkwardly placed inside the heels of Puppet Master, which shifted in, and consequently was not ridden out to the finish. Puppet Master laid approaching and rounding the home turn, thereby carrying Rose Of Man wider. Loverboy Charlie rider App. B McDougall explained that the gelding can be somewhat difficult to ride and has an awkward gait. He said rather than trying to fight against his mount he elected on the home turn to allow it to shift to the outside of the field. He added Loverboy Charlie was still awkward for him to ride in that it was laying in and for this reason he changed the whip over into his right hand approaching the 50m. App. McDougall said, whilst the intensity of the gelding laying in decreased, it was still difficult for him to ride out in his normal manner in the run to the post.

4 4 RACE 5: TAB Rewards Handicap 1200m Oscar's Choice slow to begin. Raced keenly for some distance after the 600m and then became awkwardly placed inside the heels of Mahalangur. Over the final stages had some difficulty obtaining clear running and close to the winning post raced onto the heels of Tswalu and in doing so shifted in and tightened Hand From Above. Hand From Above slow to begin and then was badly crowded for room between Mahalangur and Tswalu, which began awkwardly and shifted in. After suffering interference at the start, despite being ridden along, did not muster speed. Kanga's Eye after being slow to begin, was ridden along, however did not show speed and shortly after the start was hampered when Mahalangur shifted in. Mr Grumpy on the home turn the colt, which was commencing to give ground, was hampered when Reiby Rampart was taken out by Kanga's Eye, which became unbalanced and then shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of that runner. Raced wide and without cover throughout. Bold Chance H Bowman (Tswalu) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Bold Chance, causing that horse to be steadied and carried in, resulting in Reiby Rampart and Phoebe's Lass both being badly hampered. In this incident Bold Chance lost its rightful running. H Bowman's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 4 February 2018 and to expire on Thursday, 15 February 2018, on which day he may ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover. Reiby Rampart a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. All In The Reflexs rider A Hyeronimus stated his mount, although racing back in the field as expected, given the pattern of racing today was disadvantaged, but nonetheless he was pleased with the manner in which the mare had improved into the race from the 400m and he was confident of its chances entering the straight. He said, after initial responding to his riding, his mount commenced to weaken over the final 100m and was disappointing in its failure to run on. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Coyle stated in his opinion All In The Reflexs was not suited by being wide and racing back in the field, given today's pattern of racing. He undertook to report back on the condition of the mare at the Rosehill Gardens meeting tomorrow. Tswalu when questioned, rider H Bowman stated, whilst he was under no specific instructions, it was envisaged that from the wide barrier Tswalu would be in a midfield position. He said, however with blinkers on for the first time today, the mare showed very good gate speed and when he was caught wide and without cover in the early stages, he elected to allow his mount to stride forward. He added having regard to the pattern of racing today, he elected to continue forward and lead. RACE 6: Vili's Pies Australia Day Cup (Listed) 2400m Codero shifted its off-hind plate prior to entering the parade ring, which was refitted. The gelding underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start.

5 5 Shifted in at the start and made contact with Imperial Aviator. A short distance later Vassal and Cordero raced in restricted room and then Cordero was obliged to steadied when crowded between Imperial Aviator and Montauk, which shifted in slightly. Mighty Lucky in the early stages proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. Then continued for a short distance to race ungenerously. On straightening was disappointed for a run between Dee I Cee and Destiny's Kiss. Mighty Lucky was then shifted in across the heels of Dee I Cee and was disappointed for a run between Dee I Cee and Shalmaneser, both of which shifted ground. Then had difficulty obtaining clear running for some distance after the 100m and when commencing to close the race off strongly was again held up for clear running when awkwardly placed on the heels of Destiny's Kiss, which was shifting out under pressure. Waking Moment when the tempo steadied near the 1400m commenced to race keenly for some distance thereafter. When questioned, rider App. B McDougall stated that from the wide barrier today and with the perceived genuine tempo, it was decided to ride the mare conservatively. He said due to the tempo only being moderate in the early stages, his mount proved difficult to settle at various stages throughout the race and, in order for him to obtain cover, he was obliged to settle towards the rear of the field behind Imperial Aviator. Rock On Ivy when the tempo steadied near the 1400m commenced to race keenly for some distance thereafter. Imperial Aviator when questioned, rider K Mallyon stated she was instructed to ride her mount prominently however to ensure she did not to place her mount under pressure to do so in the early stages to achieve this. She said that her mount began only fairly, did not show sufficient speed and ultimately Dee I Cee was able to cross her in the early stages. She added that it had been stressed to her as well that Imperial Aviator prefers to make its runs to the outside of horses and for this reason approaching the winning post on the first occasion, rather than pressure her mount, she allowed Montauk to cross her and ultimately raced further back than was the intention. K Mallyon further stated that after the 800m she shifted to the outside of Montauk and commenced to make her run, albeit wide and without cover and in her opinion, having regard to the circumstances of the race, Imperial Aviator finished the race off strongly. Co-trainer Mr A Bott confirmed the instructions issued, stating it was his intention for the gelding to race prominently, but without having to make use of it to do so. He also confirmed the advice that it was imperative that Imperial Aviator made its run towards the outside of runners as it had shown a reluctance to race in amongst the field. Montauk a post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 1/5 lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Montauk racing again. Mr Waller advised Montauk would now be spelled. Destiny's Kiss when questioned, rider C Brown explained that the gelding has shown a tendency in the past of beginning only fairly and with this in mind he had been instructed to ensure that his mount began on terms today and for this reason he was positive as soon as the start was effected. He said Destiny's Kiss responded much better than he had expected, commenced to travel keenly and, with the slow tempo in the early stages, took up a position behind the leader, which was much further advanced than he had anticipated.

6 6 RACE 7: 2018 ATC Membershi Handicap 2200m Bella Galeano at the request of rider G Schofield, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was found to be 1/5 lame in the off-foreleg. Bella Galeano was withdrawn at 4.39pm acting on veterinary advice. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Bella Galeano be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 4.40pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket: 1 st Beijing Board 4 cents win 3 cents place 2 nd Multitude 5 cents place 3 rd Hurricane Harbour 5 cents place Trainer Mr C Waller advised Bella Galeano will now be retired. On this assurance no action was taken. Rokda Kasba underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers after striking the enclosure fence leaving the parade. Rokda Kasba was subsequently cleared to start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding, which finished distant, to be mildly heat affected. Stable representative Mr R Roberts was advised Rokda Kasba will be required to barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again. Allcash slow to begin. When the tempo steadied near the 1400m rider B Shinn shifted three wide and allowed his mount to improve and take the lead near the 1200m. Irish Optimism from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 2/5 lame in the offforeleg. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Irish Optimism racing again. Blanco Cara raced keenly in the early and middle stages and refused to settle for the majority of the race. Hurricane Harbour raced wide and without cover from the 900m. Multitude raced wide and without cover from the 900m. The Gavel the gelding, which had been held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn, was steadied when disappointed for a run near the 200m between Hurricane Harbour and Beijing Board. As a result of this The Gavel then did not obtain clear running thereafter and was not able to be properly tested. RACE 8: Australian Turf Club Handicap 1400m Mon Pere began awkwardly and then knuckled shortly after. Raced wide and without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Bon Equus slow to begin. Bullet Shot slow to begin. Crafty Tycoon began awkwardly. After the 1300m when being steadied to obtain a position with cover, got its head up on a number of occasions and raced ungenerously for a short

7 7 distance. Crafty Tycoon, however was unable to secure cover and travelled wide without cover for the duration of the race. Vaniloquio after being slow to begin, was crowded for room by Kool Vinnie, which shifted in. In the incident Vaniloquio blundered. Knuckled over approximately 50m after the start. T Angland (Crafty Tycoon) was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in when not clear of Vaniloquio approaching the 900m, resulting in Vaniloquio having to be steadied. Kool Vinnie, which was following, had to be restrained when placed close to the heels of that runner. Rider C Brown explained that his mount was left without a finishing effort having regard to the manner in which it had raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Aquatic raced keenly for some distance approaching the 800m. Kool Vinnie near the 1000m when being steadied to obtain a position with cover from its wide barrier, got its head up on a number of occasions and proved difficult to settle. Rider H Bowman stated that as detailed Kool Vinnie raced too keenly in order to obtain cover throughout the early and in his view did not see out the distance today over 1400m in this grade at a metropolitan meeting. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Wahng Wah A post-race veterinary examination of the mare which, although experienced some difficulty obtaining clear running near the 200m, failed to close the race off, did not reveal any abnormalities. GENERAL: Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken. Race 4 App. J Van Overmeire (Rose Of Man) 6 strikes prior to the 100m. Race 3: Nonpareil, Leami Astray, Missile Coda. Race 4: Adjective, Loverboy Charlie, Brook Magic (2), Rose Of Man. Race 5: Hand From Above, All In The Reflexs, Phoebe's Lass, Kanga's Eye. Race 6: Destiny's Kiss, Shalmaneser, Mighty Lucky, Dee I Cee, Cordero (2), Montauk. Race 7: Peribsen The Gavel, Hurricane Harbour, Beijing Board (2), Meteorologist, Rokda Kasba, Multitude. Race 8: Kool Vinnie, Vaniloquio, Red Knot, Aquatic. Fines: Reprimands: SUMMARY Race 1: T Clark (Regal Cannon) use of the whip (AR137A(4)(c).
