Race 5: Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap 1400m Mighty Lucky over the concluding stages was carried wider by Sir Plush, which was inclined to lay out under pressure. Burning Passion trainer Mr M Newnham advised that the gelding would now be spelled. Race 6: Polytrack Roman Consul Stakes (Group 2) 1200m Chauffeur co-trainer Mr M Hawkes advised he was satisfied with the post-race condition of the colt and the stable will continue on with its preparation. Race 7: Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes (Group 1) 2000m Tangled approaching the 600m was steadied to avoid the heels of the weakening Surprise Bullet. Shortly after Tangled raced in restricted room between Colesberg and Surprise Bullet. Sully after being disappointed for a run to the outside of Dissolution near the 300m, was then obliged to continue shifting out for a short distance thereafter to continue into clear running. During this time Sully made contact with Sanctioned on two occasions. My True Love co-trainer Mr A Bott advised he was satisfied with the post-race condition of the mare and it is the stable's intention to continue with its preparation. Mr Bott reiterated that they would look to drop My True Love back in grade. RACE 1: Pluck@Vinery Handicap 1100m San Marco slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Eleazar began awkwardly. Near the 200m became unbalanced.

2 2 Isaurian after being crossed by Eleazar near the 700m, shifted out and made contact with Military Academy and carried that horse wider. Military Academy then raced wide without cover for the remainder of the race. Enfield Opp laid out rounding the home turn and under pressure in the straight. Rider K McEvoy explained, despite his vigorous riding in the early and middle stages, his mount travelled at the rear of the small field. He said Enfield Opp appeared to lose concentration mid race, however, in the early part of the straight commenced to close the race off strongly, albeit it continued to race greenly irrespective that the colt has had a number of trials in the lead up to today's race. RACE 2: McGrath Estate Agents Act Handicap 1100m Another Shadow slow to begin. Left racing wide without cover from the 700m. When questioned, rider T Angland explained that rounding the home turn he identified a call from rider B Shinn (Discreet Charm) to his inside, which he believed may have been racing tight between his mount and All Sassitude. He said that due to these circumstances he permitted his mount to shift out to provide Discreet Charm sufficient racing room. Stewards advised T Angland that, whilst they are mindful of the circumstances that resulted in his mount shifting ground, he should ensure that at all times where possible he rides his mounts in a competitive manner. Discreet Charm slow to begin. Savatiano blundered at the start. Near the 200m shifted out and brushed Empress Matilda, which became briefly unbalanced. Laid out in the straight, obliging its rider B Avdulla to change his whip into the left hand approaching the 100m. Boorooj - When questioned, H Bowman stated that from the outside barrier today he had been asked to ride the filly which was resuming, with cover. He said due to the composition of the field he considered that he would be obliged to take up a position towards the rear of the field in order to comply with his instructions, but added the manner in which Boorooj was to be ridden today was consistent with the way the filly had barrier trialled at Randwick on Monday, 25 September He added on that occasion Boorooj began well and accordingly then was steadied in the early stages to shift in behind runners. H Bowman further stated that similarly today his mount began best and he immediately restrained the filly and was obliged to come back towards the rear of the field in order to obtain cover. He said that rounding the home turn he immediately shifted to the outside of Another Shadow and coursed widest into the straight. He added Boorooj commenced to close the race off strongly and, as he believed it was giving its best under hands and heels pressure, he only elected to use the whip in a backhand manner on two occasions approaching the 100m, whereby the filly commenced to lay out. He said for this reason and the manner in which it was closing the race off, he elected to ride it out hands and heels in the run to the winning post. H Bowman was advised that his explanation would be reported and he was told that wherever possible he should test his mounts as best as he is able so to leave no room for query. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden confirmed the instructions issued and reinforced that the intention was to ride Boorooj in the manner in which it was ridden in its recent barrier trial. He said at its last start at Canterbury on 5 July 2016 the filly, from a wide barrier, had been ridden positively, led and was consequently left without a finishing effort. Mr Snowden added that, whilst the barrier today dictated that Boorooj would be ridden towards the rear of the field, it was the stable's intention to ensure that irrespective of future draws it would be ridden with cover.

3 3 All Sassitude raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Awkwardly placed on the heels of Empress Matilda for a short distance leaving the 600m. Experienced difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 150m. Ballet Baby raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Caprice raced keenly in the early and middle stages and near the 700m was steadied and shifted out abruptly away from the heels of Savatiano. RACE 3: Schweppes Handicap 2200m Thewayweare slow to begin and then, despite being ridden along, was slow to muster speed. Ready For Success raced in restricted room for a short distance after the start and, despite being ridden along, failed to muster speed. Caught wide until near the 1400m. Something Borrowed raced keenly in the early stages and was inclined to lay in. Brilliant Jet over the concluding stages raced tight between Thewayweare and Sakhumzi and as a result was not tested in the run to the winning post. Fly Till Dawn trainer Mr W Prain advised that the instructions today had been to have the gelding, which was stepping up significantly in distance, race forward of midfield, however, expressed surprise at the position it obtained rounding the first turn in that it was able to find the lead. Mr Prain indicated Fly Till Dawn, which subsequently weakened in the straight, will now be spelled and he will barrier trial the gelding prior to its next preparation. Mr Prain was reminded of his obligations to notify the Stewards of any change in riding tactics. Know How rider A Hyeronimus explained that the gelding travelled well until approaching the home turn. He said when the eventual winner Thewayweare, which he had been following, commenced its run his mount failed to quicken and was left somewhat flat-footed. He added in the home straight Know How was one-paced and in his opinion was not altogether comfortable on today's surface, which he believed was slightly inferior to the track it raced on at its previous start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Wine Bush when questioned regarding his riding with particular reference to after the 600m, H Bowman explained that leading up to the 600m Something Borrowed, which had been wide and racing towards his inside, commenced to shift out. He said that in the circumstances he elected to allow his mount to shift in behind Something Borrowed and, as that horse was not a favoured runner and was under pressure leaving the 600m, he elected to save ground and pursue runs through the field. He added that leaving the 500m he positioned his mount between Know How and Brilliant Jet with a view to following the eventual winner Thewayweare. H Bowman further stated that, after establishing a run behind Thewayweare, Know How shifted out slightly and Brilliant Jet shifted in after being briefly tightened by Something Borrowed. He said as a result his mount was unable to maintain its position due to the tightening and he elected to steady, shift out and commence improving to the outside of the field. H Bowman further added that when placed under pressure early in the straight Wine Bush commenced to lay in and for this reason, whilst closing the race off strongly, he

4 4 changed the whip over to his right hand near the 150m. After considering the evidence the Stewards were of the view that, whilst the decision to shift to the inside of Brilliant Jet was not unreasonable, H Bowman was advised that this manoeuvre was a low percentage decision and in hindsight he had erred by not remaining in the position behind Something Borrowed, which would have provided him with uninterrupted running approaching the home turn. A postrace veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the off-foreleg. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Wine Bush racing again. RACE 4: McGrath Estate Agents Vic Handicap 1400m Dashie De Luxe slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout. Cambage slow to begin and then was steadied when crowded for room between Tutu and So Splendid, both of which shifted ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be heat affected, displaying a poor post-race recovery and respiratory distress. Trainer Mr S Singleton was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Cambage racing again. Waking Moment - from its wide barrier steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. RACE 5: #Theraces Handicap 1400m Charming Lad slow to begin. Drachenfels slow to begin. Cellarman began awkwardly. App. L Magorrian was fined $500 under AR145 for returning to scale in excess of 1 /2 a kilogram over his allotted weight. In assessing this penalty the stewards were mindful that L Magorrian had 3 similar infringements within 12 months. High Mist near the 400m was hampered when Budderoo Knight shifted in briefly. Art Of Excellence when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider P Wells stated as is usual the gelding led comfortably in today's race. He said in the early part of the straight he became concerned that Art Of Excellence would not be able to sustain its run and approaching the 200m commenced to compound quickly. He stated that he had ridden the gelding in its trackwork leading up to today and he had been particularly impressed with its piece of work when it galloped on Saturday, 7 October 2017 at Warwick Farm. He said on that morning Art Of Excellence, as per its normal trackwork regime, performed pace work and galloped the last furlong in a satisfactory time. P Wells was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the manner in which the gelding had weakened today. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be sore in front. Co-trainer Ms A Turner confirmed that Art Of Excellence had worked well on Saturday, 7 October 2017 and also indicated she had ridden it this morning in slow work and the gelding was free in its action and a forward showing was expected today. Ms Turner undertook to have Art Of Excellence vetted and furnish the results of that examination to the Stewards in the days subsequent. Ms Turner was advised, having regard to the veterinary advice today, a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Art Of Excellence racing again. RACE 6: McGrath Estate Agents NSW Handicap 1100m

5 5 Raiden the horse, which briefly got its near-hind leg up on the running board, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and cleared to start. From its wide barrier steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. In the early part of the straight, when placed under pressure, had a tendency to shift out. Mount Panorama slow to begin. From its wide barrier steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. To Excess began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the straight. Golden Shoes - from its wide barrier steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Fly Forward for some distance approaching and after the 800m commenced to race very keenly and had to be restrained off the heels of To Excess. Invincible Quest rider C Brown explained his mount could not match the early speed of the race and as a result drifted back towards the rear of the field. He said Invincible Quest came under pressure early in the straight and finished the race off evenly, albeit in his opinion was not totally suited by today's surface, which had commenced to show signs of wear. A postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. RACE 7: tab.com.au Handicap 1600m Fortensky the gelding, which was fractious in the barrier, got its off-foreleg over the barrier, struck its head and had blood in its mouth, was a late withdrawal at 4.56pm. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Fortensky be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 4.56pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket: 1st Gauguin15 cents win 13 cents place 2nd Makeadane 17 cents place 3rd Tumultuous 9 cents place Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Fortensky trialling to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being permitted to race again. Last Wish slow to begin. From its wide barrier steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching and rounding the home turn the gelding, which closed the race off strongly, was shifted out to continue out into clear running. Caton slow to begin. From its wide barrier steadied and shifted in behind runners shortly after the start. Ashkannd raced wide without cover throughout. Approaching the 200m was shifted in to avoid the heels of Last Wish (App. B McDougall), which shifted out when not clear. App. B McDougall was advised to exercise more care. Pianissimo rider K McEvoy stated that his mount settled nicely in a midfield position and rounding the home turn he pressured it to follow Tumultuous. He said however Pianissimo

6 6 did not respond to his riding and was only one-paced in the run to the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a poor post-race recovery. Obsidian when questioned, rider G Schofield stated in the straight his mount did not feel fluent in its action and for this reason he did not place it under full pressure. He said he was unable to detect any adverse issues with the gelding and he was of the view the manner in which it was racing was more reflective of the surface, which had commenced to show signs of wear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-foreleg. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Obsidian racing again. RACE 8: McGrath Estate Agents Qld Handicap 1100m Sharpness slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Mixed Blossom on jumping was buffeted between Zin Zan Elsie and Eccellere. In the incident Zin Zan Elsie and Eccellere both became unbalanced. Raced wide without cover throughout. Knit 'N' Purl for some distance in the early part of the straight raced in restricted room inside Somebody (E Webster-Hawes). Near the 150m was then crowded for room when Somebody shifted in further. E Webster-Hawes was reprimanded. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Hillary Step approaching the 600m commenced to race keenly and had to be restrained for a short distance off the heels of Eccellere. For a brief distance on straightening was held up and unable to improve. For some distance after straightening proved reluctant to shift into clear running to the outside of Eccellere. It's Time For Magic near the 250m, after being held up and shifting to the inside of Sharpness, was steadied when disappointed for a run between that runner and Somebody, both of which shifted ground. Somebody when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider E Webster- Hawes stated her mount travelled well behind the leaders until approaching the home turn. She said the mare came under pressure prior to the home turn and was a beaten horse shortly afterwards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor postrace recovery. Co trainer Mr A Ryan will be interviewed in respect of the performance. Zin Zan Elsie when questioned, rider B Shinn explained that from his outside barrier he had been instructed to race in a forward position. He said, after being bumped on jumping by Mixed Blossom, his mount, despite his urgings, was unable to maintain its position and drifted back to race towards the rear of the field. He added that in the early part of the straight, when placed under pressure, Zin Zan Elsie commenced to lay in, did not feel entirely comfortable in its action, proved difficult to ride and finished the race off only one-paced. B Shinn was advised that in the opinion of the Stewards he should have made more effort in the early he early stages to comply with instructions than he had done on this occasion. As Zin Zan Elsie had left prior to being examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer, the mare before it races again will be subject to a veterinary clearance having regard to B Shinn's evidence. Trainer Mr M Smith confirmed the instructions issued to B Shinn.

7 7 GENERAL: Due to a major incident in the M5 tunnel a number of horses stabled at Randwick were delayed arriving on course. All runners that were delayed were inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and cleared to run. After consultation with the Club's Veterinary Officer and the relevant connections, the following horses, which had not arrived on course by the prescribed time due to the significant delay, were deemed not suitable to start and were withdrawn on veterinary grounds and returned to their respective stables: Race 1 Highly Influential withdrawn at 12.30pm November Man withdrawn at 12.30pm Race 2 Madonnica Withdrawn at 12.54pm Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken. Race 3 App. L Magorrian (Ready For Success) 7 strikes prior to the 100m. Race 6 App. R King (Cosmic Cameo) 6 strikes prior to the 100m.
